+1 on trying an agency, provided it does proper screening. They can market you as 'a busy exclusive student, only available on two days a week'. ... or you can do that on your site, if you have one. Beware that some agencies are higher volume, at least in Boston there are every hour, on the hour agencies, so research carefully if that isn't your thing. If you're doing an agency an hour from where you live, maybe you can also be an independent in an area an hour the other way?
Sux that you got stuck on the hotel, crap happens, dudes were inconsiderate or just assumed you were already at the hotel, many don't realize that the lady may be getting the room just for their appointment.
+1 on doing whatever it takes to stay in school. Don't be afraid to ask your financial aid office for additional help. I've been amazed how many times they can 'find' an additional $500 grant. Not huge but if for 2 semesters, that's 1,000 less you have to worry about.
