Re: Letter of Employment?
I think mgrs have probably heard it all at this point, including a request like this. I haven't had to have a letter of employment when I was still working at a club, but my future landlord & most likely my imminent employers as well will be doing a background check. I have my last club listed on my resume but stated that I worked as a waitress/promoter, & talked to the mgr I listed abt what to say if he gets a call abt me.
Re: Letter of Employment?
please see a thread discussing this very same topic in detail in the Life Support forum
Re: Letter of Employment?
A manager should not have a problem with doing this. Unfortunately, there is a stigma with dancers applying for houses/apartments, car loans, etc. As soon as they see you're a stripper they may not want to rent to you. This is sad but true. Luckily I have an agent who literally faxed my apartment employment verification saying I'm in "customer relations" and they also printed out pay stubs to "prove" my income. Lol.
Re: Letter of Employment?
Thanks Melonie. I checked it out but there wasn't specific information regarding an employment letter from the club.
Re: Letter of Employment?
^^^ An Employment Letter is just one form of 'proof of income' that the landlord is looking for in order to enter into a lease agreement with you. As stated in the other thread, statements showing deposits to a 'business' bank account are even better, and past years' tax returns are the best when it comes to 'proving your income'.
Also as others have already commented, most landlords take a very dim view of having 'strippers' as tenants !!! Thus a letter from a strip club manager may in fact due you more harm than good.
Also, for income verification purposes, cash income that has not been reported to the IRS 'does not exist' as official income for verification purposes. As such, asserting that you have X dollars worth of cash income to a corporate landlord that reports to credit rating agencies may trickle back to the IRS. If that happens, and if the IRS computers don't find a matching tax return for those X dollars worth of cash income, they may start investigating.

Corporate landlords report to credit agencies? Wow!
Re: Letter of Employment?
It probably depends on where you live. I applied for many apartments like this over the years, and was always approved. I just asked my manager to write a letter on our club letterhead stating how long I had worked there, how many days a week I worked, and approximately how much I made per month and that it was in cash tips. No one ever called and verified that I know of. I then showed my landlord bank statements from the last 3 months showing I had plenty of steady income. I usually just printed the 'deposits' (not every transaction for the whole month) and they were happy with that. That being said, other parts of the country may not be as lenient.
Re: Letter of Employment?
I'd go with depositing at least 3 times the rent amount into the bank, printing out that month of deposits, and calling yourself " self employed " . I mentioned this stuff in the other thread. Since you don't KNOW your landlord , why risk your chances by telling them you are in the adult industry ?
Re: Letter of Employment?
if you can't get the manager to write you one, you could always ask a hm, host, bouncer, dj, etc to write one and just label them as your "shift supervisor" or something. however, I think this should be the 2nd step, try to just get approved based on bank statements and 1099s first.
Re: Letter of Employment?
Thanks so much everyone for the helpful advice!! I asked my manager today and he said he could write me one. He said he couldn't lie on it and say I'm wait staff so I'm thinking it will just say I'm employed with the club. I got dragged into customs the other week when I tried to travel through the states on a road trip. I kinda waffled when they asked what I did for work and I mentioned that I work in bars without going into detail. Well, long story short, they ripped apart my car, detained me for hours, fingerprinted/mugshot me and told me not to come back until I had proof that I'm established in Canada.

Wait.... WHAT!?!?
They ripped your car apart and treated you like a criminal.... What's all of this about??? What's going on... I'm asking this because this is extremely unusual! Are you ok otherwise?

I was following my friend who was going on a road trip on her motorbike. I was carrying both her and my luggage because she couldn't take it on her bike. She went ahead of me and got through and we were going to meet at a restaurant. But when I got to the border, the officer didn't believe me about the road trip and thought I was planning on moving there I guess? But it didn't make sense because I didn't have enough luggage to sufficiently move. Maybe if I was a hobo or something. So then I got grilled by this lady in the customs office and I was having a hard time explaining that I generate a good enough income that allows me to go on road trips like that every now and then. I gave her the name of my friend who passed through before me and she said no one by that name had crossed the border when she clearly had and was waiting for me at the restaurant. She wouldn't let me get my cel phone to confirm. Then she took my car keys and went through everything in my car. It was a disaster when I got back to it. She obviously didn't find any contraband but my dancer gear was in there so I'm assuming she thought I was going there to dance. Anyway, she gave me a list of things to provide in order to prove I'm established in Canada and that I'll be coming back.
Re: Letter of Employment?
Yes, but what I found was that the club couldn't state an income....so I had to put down a double security deposit on my apartment.
