Can't get hired, Feeling discouraged
So I've never stripped before, but I have worked as a gogo dancer for 2 years. I recently became interested in stripping as I love performing and really need more money than I currently make. I've been lurking around this site for months researching and prepping myself until I was confident I had what it takes to start working. I picked out several clubs I thought I'd do well in, but.. NONE OF THEM WILL HIRE ME:'(
The first place was my top choice. It wasn't a real high end place, but I liked the music and the other dancers seemed really nice to one another. I spent some time talking (and tipping of course) to get more info and they told me that they needed more dancers and that I would do really well there since I stand out. I'm black and they only had one other black dancer there. So I go in ready to audition, hair and makeup decked out feeling confident and ready to rock the place. I wait a whole hour to be seen by management and then the guy comes out, looks at me, and says they are having a hiring freeze and maybe to try pack in a few months.
Now I wasn't initially hurt by this, but got the feeling he just didn't like my look. I was really disappointed, but decided to try another club where I already had friends and honestly saw a lot more business. A good friend of mine had been trying to get me to come audition there for months. I decided to go in during the day so management wouldn't be so busy, but this place doesn't require a dance audition. You just strip down and they tell you yes or no. Needless to say, I was told no and given no reason. Now I don't think I'm gorgeous, but I'm definitely not ugly and I'm thin and fit. I am really tall 5'10", but have a model-esque body. I don't have any tattoos and I did notice that most of the girls there were heavily tatted and pierced so I reasoned that I must not fit the club image.
I was really hurt, but picked myself up and scoped out another place that night. The place had a good variety of girls, all sizes and races, few tattoos. It was a fairly nice place and more of a gown club, but I thought I might fit that image better so I came in today to try out. Once again, no actual audition, just a look at your body. The manager was a nice guy, but told me that he couldn't hire me because I wasn't endowed enough. Now I'm a b cup and while still small, my breasts have good shape and I had seen a girl with smaller breasts than mine just last night.
At this point, I am just feeling super low and don't know what to do anymore. I desperately need the money, but have lost all of my confidence. I apologize for the long post, but I really needed to vent and could use some advice from others who've been there. Thanks
Re: Can't get hired, Feeling discouraged
I work with the hiring manager at our club one day a week (his other shifts are nights). So, I'm able to see the new dancers before they're hired and get a glimpse of the process if I'm not busy.
Sometimes clubs are looking for specific types of girls. They may have a good core group but want to fill in a few blanks. For instance, the manager mentioned that he was pretty happy with the night shift now and wouldn't be hiring unless a girl was really spectacular. THAT day, a beautiful black girl came in and was hired on the spot-even though she'd never danced before.
We also had an experienced dancer apply, AND she had a following, but she wasn't accepted because her look wasn't right for the club.
So, it just depends.
It's good that you check out the clubs you want to work at before you audition-you want it to be a good fit for both you and the club.
Good luck!
Re: Can't get hired, Feeling discouraged
I'm sorry It's frustrating when clubs don't hire you and don't tell you why. :(
Re: Can't get hired, Feeling discouraged
Have you thought about trying to audition on a different shift when there are different managers? Like if you call them and ask for the manager's name and when they will be in, if they give you a different name you could try again. A different manager who hasn't seen you before may hire you.
Re: Can't get hired, Feeling discouraged
I understand..I've gone through this & it's frustrating, esp. when you really need/want to work. I've had places that before I auditioned, make me fill out an application..really? One place I tried, they insist on having an online app filled out, with pictures. They didn't respond a couple times, but the last time they did & asked me to come in, however they just hold auditions once a week & so far that day hasn't worked out for me to come in there.
You can't always blame you, as you said yourself, one girl working was smaller busted than you..it could be they just feel like saying no for some reason, or no reason at all or they could just be in a shitty mood.
There's some good suggestions made here, maybe try some other clubs in the meantime (even if you have to go a bit further?) & try back at different times/days.
Also read in Hustle Hut, esp. the top stickies. I am doing this myself, to build up my confidence, there's some Law of Attraction stuff I need to hear.
Good luck hun hope it gets better
Re: Can't get hired, Feeling discouraged
Thanks, I will definitely keep trying at both new places and different times. I am also thinking of maybe going to an amateur night at my first choice club. Maybe that will help me. I'm confident in my dancing and know if given the chance I could be good at this. When I've gone in to check out clubs, many of the guys there have wanted to talk to me and even was approached for a dance. My friends do think I come off too shy and nice girl and maybe that is working against me in these interviews. But when I'm dancing, I'm a different person.
I think I will take a break the rest of this week and rebuild my confidence and try again next week. I've gone to the places I considered more in the middle in terms of quality, but should I even try for a real high end place if I've never stripped before? Or maybe go low end to at least get started, though I don't think I would feel comfortable there and don't want to be somewhere where the custies expect a lot of extras.

In terms of if extras are expected, I think it really depends on the club. I've worked in upscale clubs where they were known for extras, but I've also worked in a couple of dives where extras were very rare and girls will say something to management if they suspect another girl is doing something. You could try going in as a customer just to get the vibe of the place, I think that is pretty important and I've done this on occasion.
If you can't do that, another suggestion is to read up club reviews to get a feel for the place. If you see a lot of recent reviews, it's a good indicator that the club is busy. I would check out places like yelp, but especially:
https://www.tuscl.net/
I check out club reviews on this website a lot because not only will they talk about the girls, what kind of club it is etc, some of the guys even talk about which dancer does what or they will outwardly say that the club in question is an extras club.

Keep going back!! I had to go to Olympic Gardens 6 times before they hired me!!
Re: Can't get hired, Feeling discouraged
I don't know where you are located, but sometimes being a minority can work for you or it can work against you. I'm also a minority dancer. A lot of clubs only want a certain amount of Asian, Latina or Black girls... Maybe the clubs you have been to were just happy with the number of black girls they had working, already. Sometimes being a minority dancer can work for you, too. Lots of clubs are starving for a little diversity. Even if that's not the issue, don't give up. You'll find something.
I started out as a go-go as well. Luckily, I did not have to audition at my first club. They hired me because they needed a little color, without seeing my dance. When I started stripping, I danced like I was on crystal meth. Strip dancing and go-go dancing are really, really different. I'm sure you know this. But, from experienced, it's hard to transition from go-go dancing to stripping, especially if you've done the former for awhile. When you audition, dance really, painfully slowly. Imagine dancing in slow motion, then slow it down a little more. Someone told me this when I first started stripping and I found it very helpful.
Good luck!!!

I finally got hired and I think the club only has two other black girls working there so hopefully that'll work in my favor;) And yeah, it's super hard to slow down from gogo dancing and I've done that for over 2 years. I thought I was dancing slow during my audition but when I saw the other girls dancing, I still danced really fast in comparison. How long did it take you to adjust?
Re: Can't get hired, Feeling discouraged
Update: I finally got hired!:) I went in and did a dance audition at a club I didn't really want to work at. They hired me, but I didn't stay there. The place just didn't feel right and I didn't like the management there. However, I felt much more confident so I went back to my first choice club and got hired! They even asked if I wanted to start that night. My first shift is tomorrow. I'm gonna try a few day shifts so I can get used to things, but thanks everyone for your words of encouragement:)

Thank you for sharing your story and Congratulations! Your resilience is incredibly admirable. I'm sure new dancers (and gals that have trouble getting hired) want to know what you did differently to snag a job at the Top club. Looking back, what changed? (besides your confidence level)
I have gotten a lot of Private Messages lately from local newbie girls who struggle to get hired. I never (*knock on wood*) got rejected from a club I auditioned at..... so I never had any advice to offer. Believe me, I'm not bragging. I just know that changing a "NO" to a "Yes" is a tricky hill to climb and I have zero experience offering advice on the topic.
Tell SW girls how you did it. Spare no details. You'll give hope to a lot of members on this board. :)
