Have you ever dreamed of staging a protest outside of your club?
I dream of this often; though it probably will never happen. I am just appalled by "house fee's" -- to a certain extent -- It is clear that we are "renting" the stage, I get it. But why are we charged such a hefty fee? WHY is it so expensive? WHY do we have a schedule enforced when we are INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS?
The facts are simple; there is no strip club without strippers.
If (in my dreams of course) all of the girls stood outside with signs saying "LOWER FEE'S, NO SCHEDULES" they would have to meet our demands! They NEED us! But unfortunately there are the prostitutes who have to work 7 days a week because of their pimps demands, and the girls who are helpless for rent because they slacked off ALL MONTH (what is this? did you really not come to work for an entire month??)
Until then, a girl can dream.

House fees/clubs taking a cut etc can be frustrating. But even if we all banded together in protest clubs would just end up firing the protesters and hiring new girls who will tolerate their rules. There's no shortage of girls willing to work and clubs know this.
Re: Have you ever dreamed of staging a protest outside of your club?
i would want my club to just lower their house fees..they are one of the highest of the clubs in new england, and the earning potential does NOT justify that high of a house fee. i don't mind paying a tiny bit, as long as the clubs are kept employee-free for the dancers, but they are just getting incredibly greedy. i heard from an old manager of that place that their worst fear is all the girls banding together, so it might work but the problem is idk if there is that much unity and resolve among the dancers

Yes^ Chicago area has some high-ass fees as well. Pretty much any work protest is a moot point. even for organized unions, most of which have dwindled greatly, esp. nationwide upper US states..I still see occasionally, a few small union strikes outside a place of business. Usually they have a giant inflatable rat, & a couple of guys sitting in front of it.
No shortage of people to cross lines, to get work.
Re: Have you ever dreamed of staging a protest outside of your club?
Fees are appropriate (even low, honestly) at my club when compared against earnings, so I can't say I've fantasizes about protesting them. I've worked in clubs where I didn't feel the fees or commissions were fair compared to earning potential, but I was lucky enough to either not work the shifts I felt that way or simply leave the club all together.
What Simone brings up is the crux of the issue IMO. High fees are fine when earning potential is high enough to justify them. It's when you're struggling to make fees, paying out a huge portion of your earnings, or just unable to make a decent amount after fees that they are an issue. Still, dancers are a dime a dozen, so good luck enacting change even if you're successful in banding all the girls together.

This. How many fresh new girls does a club get in a month? I know mine gets a lot. The fresh ones off the street don't care about the fees, they just want their 'easy money' and won't realize how shitty it is to be an IC with employee expectations. In reality, we accept the shitty condition once we sign that contract. If we don't like it, some one else signs it.

How much are your fees???
The club charges what dancers will pay. You're one of the dancers that makes enough bank to that fee worth it. If it wasn't worth it, you would have moved on. It's one of those free market things that Melonie could easily elaborate upon. But I think I gave you the gist of it.
Are some fees unethical? YES!
Are some fees exorbitant? YES!
Are some fees technically illegal? YES!
But truth be told, changing clubs and making more/keeping more of your hard earned money is a lot more sensible than dream-picketing. And yeah, I get that it's all a reverie... but even in your wildest dreams no club would ever comply with any demands. They'd just blacklist you and your dreamy cohorts and hire other girls all while using your demonstration for their publicity.
Aaaahhhh! I'm sorry to be a bummer... I can't help but be realistic.
I understand your vent.
Have you thought about coming in on an earlier shift to save money on fees? Have you considered exploring other clubs or new clubs that have lower house fees?

...my work-related dreams usually involve arson, but I feel you.

Hahaha....so true. All the strippers band together and fight for your rights! Love it :)
Unfortunately, I think everyone here is right. Even if every stripper in the country protested simultaneously, clubs would just gather up fresh, ignorant meat. But who knows? The world economy is going to crash soon enough anyway.....and hopefully, the monetary system as we know it will crumble.....and we will all live happily ever after in a money-free world/ resource-based economy. Hey, it could happen!
Anyone here seen Zeitgeist by Peter Joseph? Oh my god, it's incredible, a must-watch for sure!
Peace XOXO
Re: Have you ever dreamed of staging a protest outside of your club?
Nooooo way. All the clubs talk and you'd soon find yourself having to change states to get a job anywhere. Plus, the last thing any club needs is media attention especially for something so negative. I freakin hate when guys ask about tip outs, then followed by them offering to give me money to sit on the floor bc they don't want to give any to the club. No, I'd rather him give me $1000 and me giving $200 to the club over him giving me $100 to sit on the floor with him.

I am such a government conspiracy nut :P I loved that documentary! Maybe thats why I get so fired up as to how dancers can just brush this off.. If we REALLY wanted this to happen, it would. We are the fucking reason they make money. But it would take an army. Of course more dancers would replace us.. but when they've got a friday night shift and there are only 3 "new" girls working while they are all standing outside with signs... we would murder there weekly goal of "$150,000" MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA DISOBEY! But here I am, dreaming... a girl can dream, right?
Re: Have you ever dreamed of staging a protest outside of your club?
Haha....awesome, Kaylee! I'm glad I'm not the only one around here that loved that movie! :)
