Tips for profiting from your recorded videos
In the last few years, many cam sites and their affiliates have been recording private cam shows done by their performers. This has huge implications for privacy for unaware performers who until recently could have performed sex acts online with very little fear of them being recorded for posterity. Today, that’s no longer the case.
The purpose of this post is not to justify tube sites and users that upload such videos. I do not want to argue one way or another, let me just say that in an ideal world, posting of such videos would be under the complete control of the performer. You should choose if you want to be promoted in such a manner. However, the reality is the opposite.
I’m writing this to show the POSITIVE aspects of this unfortunate situation. I do not condone it, but if you’re a performer and your videos will be posted anyways, why not make the best of it?
Videos on tube sites get exposed to millions of eyeballs. Most of these people probably have never heard of you. The video is an opportunity for exposure to more people than your cam site, blog, twitter or facebook can get you, combined! If you play it right, this could be a very powerful marketing and branding tool for your brand (i.e. you!)
Here are some tips to make the most of it:
1. Use the same performer name on all your cam sites. This way you only need to brand 1 name on your videos.
2. Make sure to stream your cam with overlaid text. You can put whatever you want on there: your performer name, your site’s url, twitter, whatever. This way if people watching the video like you, they will know where/how to find you.3. Pre-empt the rogue videos by uploading videos you record yourself. In these you control it all- whether you’re nude or not, what you’re doing. Maybe make a horny/flirty message asking guys to go pvt with you? Or something more creative to get users to share the videos. Now upload the non nude to youtube, topless ones to dailymotion and x-rated ones to the biggest tube sites. Chances are these will come up in google when people search for your name and their message will be to your benefit.
4. Don’t think hardcore/nude videos will stop people from spending on your chat. This is NOT true! People that will be satisfied by watching you naked in a video, are not your target customers. It’s not very likely that they would spend on cam chat even if they haven’t seen your video. They just want to watch free porn. Your target customer is one that sees how awesome you are/look in a video and wants to get personal, talk to you, and get to know you. Once someone is seeking a more personal connection with you, no number of free porn videos will stop him from wanting to chat with you live.
5. Make strategic use of DMCA. I would DMCA videos which have removed your text, which show you in an unflattering light, which expose more than you’re comfortable with, etc. But keep in mind that once your videos are out there, for DMCA to be effective, it needs to be done continually and nonstop and this will tie up your time and energy which could be used to promote yourself more effectively.
If you have other tips I didn't think of, please post them here so that every one can benefit!
I know not every one will agree with these ideas and many performers will do all they can to stomp each and every video out. But even those who do probably realize they are fighting a loosing battle.
Porn paysites were in the same situation a few years ago. Now most realize that they need the tube sites to survive and the massive exposure on those sites help their brand and sales. The best way to fight it is to control the posting of the videos yourself.

Great post! Sadly it is against Streamate's rules to watermark your video though. I wish they would let us. :(

I've actually been curious how you overlay text on your webcam display image! I'd like to be able to put my twitter account and the highest tipper on my webcam display when I'm broadcasting, but I'm not a computer person at ALL and have no idea how to do it. >_> Would anyone be able to explain it?

Are we talking on MFC? I know a lot of girls use the free software program 'Manycam' to do it.

That is so true. Last night a guy in my free chat was interested in buying one of my videos, which is much cheaper than my cam show. However in the course of discussing my clips and reading the descriptions of what I like to do, he got so turned on he bought a private show with me instead! I still don't want my work out there for free, but sadly the guys who are content to wank to what they find aren't really worth the time trying to convert anyway.
Re: Tips for profiting from your recorded videos
Nearly all clips I made have a 5-10 seconds of poster where I list my e-mail address, cammodel link, and twitter so they can contact me for custom requests or whatever. It helps! I got some nice custom requests from custies on SM because they saw the ending. I did not need to tell them my email address or twitter or anything else while on SM. :)
Here is my ''poster'' I use in the end of clips, as an example. Y'all should do the same!

Re: Tips for profiting from your recorded videos
Do you guys use your real name when sending a DMCA ? I really don't feel safe using my real name, phone number and location. I mean, you never know who receives the DMCA and associates your real identity with your cam name and uses it against you or posts it online. Can I use my model name and fake location ?

No. If you're trying to get your vids removed from capper sites (I won't list capper sites here in the public section since lurkers can read this...that's a discussion better suited for the verified section), please don't ever give these guys your real name. That's dangerous, and some of these scumbags will try to blackmail you with that information. I'm not sure what models' experiences have been with other cam sites, but if it's a capped video of you on MyFreeCams, send MFC an e-mail with a link to the vid, and often times they will do the DMCA themselves to get your video removed.

Yup MFC, I fucking hate recorders, hate them with passion , arghhhhh !! Thank you for the tip TheBrownfox, I'll shoot them an email. I didn't know they do that for the models.
