I feel like I'd have the cool to look them in the eyes and stay calm etc, but fuck, driving so fast they wouldn't want to shoot you and crash then stopping by a police station? Not sure I'd have the guts for that. If they got in somewhere busy surely just refusing would make them ge tout and leave? They wouldn't want to shoot you in a busy place then blatantly leave the scene?
I remember seeing a story on tv as a kid about a woman who was told to drive at gunpoint. She stayed clam and turned the heaters up high making the gunman drowsy. He fell asleep and she drove to a police station.
Great article, thanks.
Good article, as far as it goes. As he says - the only thing to remember is to stay calm. It's not easy to do, but it's the ONLY thing TO do.
Been there twice, once at gunpoint, once at knifepoint. Not literally to my head, but pointed at me in the case of the gun, and in the seat next to me high on crack with a bowie knife (I was unarmed) in the second case.
1st time - calmly pointed out to the guy what he was doing and what the situation was and how escalating it wouldn't help things, talked him down. Dear God it is a lot harder to control your voice when your heart is doing 180 bpm standing still than the movies would mke it seem, lol!
2nd time - followed his directions until I saw a short and accessible freeway onramp, and promptly did 100 mph down the I-5 through Seattle HOPING TO GOD for WASP to catch me. ONLY TIME IN THE YEARS I LIVED THERE THAT THERE WASN'T A STATE TROOPER ANYWHERE BETWEEN DOWNTOWN AND SEA-TAC!!! Unreal. So I relied on the advice in that article; I stayed calm and thought as clearly and quickly as I could. When I saw him starting to smack his lips and move his mouth a lot (again - high on crack) I started saying I was thirsty, really wanted a beer. The idiot agreed and instructed me to pull off at an AM/PM and buy a 40, lol. I pulled into the gas station, jumped out of the car (TOOK THE KEYS), ran inside, told them to call the police, and locked myself in the restroom until they arrived.
Staying calm is HARD, and it's the only way to make the best of things. Don't focus on the weapon, and remember that if you can't think of something rational to do, don't do anything until you can. Nothing is better than something stupid.
I had one pointed at me, from someone in a car @ close range, however he drove away..
I'm not sure about looking them in the eyes, some of them may want to shoot you anyway, esp. if you can identify them
ETA: I think Pokeymon had a copy of NRA article, about gun holders up of people, don't be sccured of the homeless or something..
