i wasn't living with my parents when i first started dancing because i was already 23. i've had a few apartments, even rented some rooms.i would love to have a house but unfortunately as a stripper i don't have the pay stubs to back up a loan.
Just like any person with a vanilla job, a person's living situation depends on the individual. As sex workers we are normal people too. We just have jobs people don't understand. Imagine a living arrangement, someone is doing that. That goes for your local McDonalds cashier as well as us.
Personally, I went from homeless to paying a mortgage in my short time dancing. That had more to do with really careful money management though.
Thank you ladies! I'm really loving the info, is it possible to have a house as a dancer? :D
I paid for my first house thanks to my income from dancing. I built a couple more as an investment. Unfortunately, my timing was poor as the last house broke ground in 2008. I couldn't get the construction loan converted to a mortgage and had to let the house go back to the bank. It wasn't a dancer thing, though, it was an issue with mortgage market blowing up the whole economy.
I stayed in the house I had before building the new one. Sold it in 2010 and now live in an apartment. I just don't want to work as hard as home ownership requires. I hate it when the sink is clogged or the yard needs landscaping that I had to do it all by myself. I now live in an upscale apartment community, and am quite happy here.
I live with my parents. I lied about what I did for like, 5 months, but of course someone I knew came in and spilled the beans to them. They've accepted it and I wouldn't move out anyways, why throw that money away when my rent here is like 100?
Anyways yeah it's possible to have a house. It will be harder to find someone willing to rent to you without pay stubs.
ETA: I'm also only 22 with no kids. If I were like 25 I'd def move out. I could not stomach my parents that long lol
I started out in a house at 19 and around 21 I downsized to an APT. Now my rent is the same in the apt as it was in the house but I'm closer to work and IN the city so it's much more convenient for me.
I think she's asking the question because dancers make a lot more money than people who work vanilla jobs (especially mcdonalds cashiers lol!) & people with vanilla jobs probably don't need to hide what they do from their parents
but congrats on your transition I need to get better at my money management!
And to OP.. I started out living with my parents and then moved out into my own apartment, was in the process of moving into a way nicer apartment until some shit happened now i'm back with my mom for the time being. I'm 21 though if that matters. I don't really see myself getting a house until I'm done with grad school and possibly married.
After reading my post I realized it sounded a bit snooty. I apologize about that. I just meant it as whatever vanilla workers can do we can do.
No matter a person's job, having good money skills is a MUST HAVE to achieve in life. I also agree with checking out Dollar Den.

These are just a few threads I've found helpful. I can't really give a lot of advice based on my experience. I bought my house while dancing and working a vanilla job. So at least half my income was verifiable through an employer. Just keep good records. Bank statements to prove deposits, taxes, etc.
I mean, if you made BANK during that one year, maybe, but in all likelihood, you wouldn't be able to afford a house after only one year of dancing less taxes and expenses -- not to mention the unlikelihood of a bank approving you for a mortgage with only one year of solid earning history. Though I suppose that depends on your location because some areas are just giving houses away.
You could certainly rent a house in less than a year -- though you'd have to be prepared to offer lots of cash upfront or get a cosigner/guarantor for a lease if you haven't worked any other job before and have a paper trail of other earnings.
I lived in an apartment when I started, still do.
I am assuming (like I think most here are) that by "a house" you mean own rather than rent? You can rent a house and own an apartment.... I'll certainly be looking to buy in the next couple years, but it will be a condo.
Really, owning is the same as any other job. Have the deposit, have the credit, have the bank statements.
I'm only 18, so still live at him with mama. She knows what I do but I can't talk with her about work because she doesn like what I do.

It is possible to rent a house/apartment as a dancer-usually you just need proof of income i.e. bank statements and tax documents etc. There are a few threads floating around that should have some advice about how to go about it. They would be worth looking at if you are thinking about applying for a house or flat. Owning your own home would be another story.
Personally, I danced after I had already moved out, so "hiding" the job from family wasn't an issue (if that's what you are worried about).
I rent an apt but my landlord could give 2 shits if Osama Bin Ladin was living there as long as he gets his $$$$ on the 1st.
I rent a house. I've thought about buying a house, but I'm not sure I want to live in my current city/state too long term.
When I first started dancing I lived in a college dormitory. I had a single room since I was a transfer student, so being discreet about what I was up to was fairly easy!
Thank you ladies! Yeah that's what I meant, is renting a apt/house :D
