How bad is it to call in?
My period is way too heavy and clotty to dance on the first day of it. I've tried every tampon on the market and they ALL leak. Plus, I have endometriosis and sometimes I get really, really sick on my period. It's pretty regular, but there's still a 3 or 4 day window around when it starts so it's not feasible to schedule around.
So I had to call in today because it started, and I feel like an enormous piece of shit. It's only my second week of work, and the managers were so happy and impressed with me last week because of my sales and punctuality and work ethic and now I feel like I've let them down.
Obviously I've got issues. I'm not an enormous piece of shit for calling in, am I? And what would be the best way to handle this situation in the future? Because obviously it's going to happen once a month.

Does your club have a schedule then?
I'd just tell them straight up, "Hey I am bleeding a new Red Sea out of my nether regions so there's gonna be a couple days each month that I won't be able to come in."
It's not an excuse so don't feel bad.
Re: How bad is it to call in?
definitely dont feel guilty. If you dragged your ass in to work you would just be miserable and they would be unimpressed that you weren't selling lots of dances.
All for what Selina says and being upfront and honest. and also, Diva cups are pretty amazing if tampons arent working for you
Re: How bad is it to call in?
it never ceases to amaze me that an industry that is run with ALL females doesn't have an automatic " ok its your period, day off" clause in the contract or something..sometimes it gets really bad! some places are understanding, and others just want you to be a human robot that make them money..but either way, do you want to call out or come in and not sell dances and possibly bleed all over stage or a customer and be sent home?
Re: How bad is it to call in?
Depends on the club. Some don't really care if you call in, some put up a bit of a fuss over the phone since they want your house fee but ultimately don't care, some only care if you call often, and some are surprised if you call at all and don't just not show up. I think, as long as you aren't constantly skipping work/cancelling shifts, and are a useful dancer when you're at the club, you're fine. You have to look after yourself first -- club management isn't going to do it for you.
If your period is so debilitating that you can't work once a month, may I suggest birth control? It might help ease your flow but at the very least you'll be able to predict which day each month will be your day off and can schedule around it. At the very least, I hope you've consulted with a doctor to make sure it's nothing serious.
Feel better!
Re: How bad is it to call in?
Simone, I totally agree. I think it's because most managers are men. That's also why I would suggest phrasing it in such a blunt way... embarrassing or grossing them out generally will make them go "Okay okay just stop telling me about it!" >:]
And I also agree with that they may be surprised you even called... out here it's no biggie when girls vanish for 2 weeks at a time unless they are desperate for house fees or the club is packed with no dancers one night.

Tell them you have diareah. There isn't much they can say then haha

Say exactly that when calling in. Any male staffer will do whatever it takes to get off the phone as fast as possible.

Lol I just needed some reassurance from my girls. Thank you! I went birthday shopping with my husband and had a MUCH better day than I would have had recreating the Texas Chainsaw Massacre set on some poor guy's lap. And the club texted me twice. I was totally honest and said I'd come in ASAP. Then I just tried to forget about it and take care of myself.
Re: How bad is it to call in?
Honestly just say "I can't come in because I'm bleed---" and they won't even let you finish before saying don't come in. That's how my club is anyway, if I tell my manager it's my time of the months he just shoos we away. They're so uncomfortable about the conversation and grossed out by the thought of it they won't even want to discuss it :)
