Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
Hello ya'll. I've read a few relevant threads about this topic, yet none of them are recent... I was wondering if there was new/updated info?
Camming, background checks, and going into the healthcare field after your cam career is over.
Right now, I am camming, and my sister is camming. She is so poor she can't afford her housing, but she is going to college, as am I.
I wanted to be a midwife, and she is studying to be a doctor.
I know that because of the 1099 forms, SM will show up in the federal background checks...
I haven't applied for midwifery school yet-- we are both still in our undergrad. We don't plan on camming long after we graduate from college; we want to move on to our shiny vanilla jobs because we feel it's our life's work.
Will camming negatively affect our chances of being in our respective fields? We plan on working in NYC.
Sorry, I would've googled it, but I really didn't know how to narrow it down.
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
This comes up a lot on here and there is no proof that it will show up on your background. 1099 forms basically say your an independent contractor working for a company. the chances of future employment digging into deeper are pretty slim plus your going into fields where you can run your own clinics as becoming a midwife is one of my life goals as well.
There is that 1 in a million chance where your future patient might recognize you from your camming career as that does happen to me sometimes, but nothing where it freaks me out to stop moving forward with my life, plus if your in those fields and making good money just hire a decent lawyer to cover your ass if that should come up.
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
I don't care about the being recognized part, that's not my concern at all. My concern is actually getting our licences, since you have to go through intensive screening to get certified as a doctor or midwife (I'm assuming).
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
It depends on where you want to practice, in Canada we just write an examine.
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
I'm not a camgirl but have looked into this extensively since I have a couple of stripping licenses... my view is that it is highly, highly unlikely it will be an issue.
Here's what I reasoned out: If you quit before med school, you will be 5 years away from it by the time your application for a board license comes up... I really doubt they will care that much about what you did in undergrad. They are going to be extremely short on doctors by that point anyway, so if it DID come up, again, I highly doubt they'll turn you down for licensure because of camming 5 years ago. I have a friend who called the AZ Board and asked about his own situation; a felony conviction for narcotic possession and they said no problemo... if they will license a guy to dispense drugs to patients, with a felony for narcotics, I'm pretty sure they won't give a rats ass about a stripper/cam girl.
Boards (at least the ones I checked out) do NOT pull your tax info (and you would know if they did, you have to sign a 4506-T); what in God's name would they need it for? The only employers I have heard of pulling taxes were trying to verify a previous salary.
Yeah, there is a chance that you will be recognized from a tube site, but you can always lie your ass off and embarrass the person... "What were YOU doing watching cam girls?!" :)
Honestly, I feel like some girls make it out like employers and licensing boards are on this big huge witch hunt... and I'm sure those girls probably think my attitude is too cavalier, but from what I've seen, the only thing that will really get you in trouble is if you continue to cam/strip while you practice.
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
Time will tell. All I can say is that when it came time to renew my state Respiratory Therapist license, signing a 4506-T IRS disclosure form was part of the license renewal paperwork. The resulting IRS document search turned up the existence of 1099's from 'adult' industry payers. Since state professional licensing agencies consider ANY work in the 'adult' industry to be unprofessional conduct, I was cited and fined for said 'unprofessional conduct' and a letter of citation was placed on the top of my state professional license file for any and every prospective employer hospital, clinic etc. to immediately read as they conducted the mandatory pre-employment check of my professional credentials.
I would further point out that 'adult' industry work is not illegal, thus state professional licensing agencies cannot deny licensure as long as the applicant meets the other necessary requirements. As was pointed out above, this also applies in cases of a criminal record ... and certainly will not prevent professional licensure for a dancer or camgirl. HOWEVER, prospective future 'professional' employers are also free to avoid potential controversy by 'accidentally' dropping resumes from professionals with criminal records or 'adult' industry work histories into the waste basket, or free to look for 'other' reasons to collect other 'evidence' justifying the firing of an existing employee who has been found to have criminal records or an 'adult' industry background. Certain types of 'professional' employers, such as religious hospitals, upscale suburban hospitals etc. are rather sensitive along these lines. However, inner city hospitals, coal mine and oil field clinics, state prison hospitals, 'doctors without borders' etc. could probably care less whether or not any qualified applicant had an 'adult' industry background.
While there's no way to say for sure whether or not a 'paper trail' of 'adult' industry related 1099's will adversely affect a particular person's future professional job prospects and career opportunities, as a matter of common sense a person thinking about devoting 6-8 years worth of studying and internship 'slave labor', and hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition costs, toward becoming a licensed MD might want to think long and hard about creating an 'adult' industry related 'paper trail' by camming. There will always be opportunities for licensed 'professionals' to work. The question lies in regard to what KINDS of work that will involve ... and what is the relative pay rate likely to be ? Or put another way, there's a major income potential 'gap' between an MD working 40-50 hours per week catering to rich suburban patients via an upscale private hospital earning $500k+ per year, or an MD working 60+ hours per week on the night shift treating drug overdoses, AIDS patients, and gunshot wounds at an inner city hospital E.R. for $150k per year, or a 'company' MD working 40 hours per week earning $100k per year treating coal miners in West Virginia or oil field workers in North Dakota !!! However, all three may face the same ~$35,000 in annual student loan payments !!
Also, as stated in other threads, future concerns about the use of facial recognition software may present an even greater risk of future 'professional' career limitations than a tax document 'paper trail'. If / when the day arrives when every prospective 'professional' employer takes a pic of every job applicant, and then engages a background check service to do a google-like internet search for posted images matching that job applicant's interview pic, how probable is it that facial feature matching will turn up video clips posted on tube sites, dancer pics posted on club websites, pirated pics posted by customers on upload sites etc. which clearly show the job applicant engaging in 'adult' activities ? This could very well be the 'norm' 6-8 years from now when a prospective pre-med student finally graduates and seeks professional licensure and employment. Agreed that, at the moment, there is no proof whatsoever that this will in fact happen ( well, outside of FBI level background checks, which already have facial recognition software available ). However, where the investment of 6-8 years worth of effort and hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition are involved, it's definitely a possibility to be considered.
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
My view is this: if you have a dream job that you want to pursue, go for it anyway. Your camming background might come up, or it might not. But at least you tried. And you can always come back to camming if they fire you for being an internet trollope :D
Exceptions for this are teaching children, because it seems some pretty fucked up stuff goes down if you are found out, i.e. being blasted on the news.
For those reading this who haven't cammed yet, if you are worried about sex work fucking up your future prospects don't do it! It's not worth it, if you only want to jump in and cam for a bit to make easy money. The money is not that easy and it's not that great for most girls. Only a few can be top models making 600-800 a day.
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
For state medical licensing boards in Iowa, they only count abuse allegations and actual criminal behavior against you when getting your license as "unprofessional conduct." Hubby's nursing license has been initially gotten and renewed with no issues even with an adult 1099 in his name and about 10 total on our joint tax returns. I do assume this process heavily varies state to state in a very random fashion, and also by whichever person is chairing that specific board.
If you plan on having freedom to go get a job anywhere, then go with what Melonie said above, otherwise you can try to anonymously ask through their Q+A person for the licensing board office. We got an answer back in about 2 weeks by email saying specifically that only criminal behavior, documented substance abuse issues (DUI, for example), and child/elder abuse registers were considered in the background checks.
Its all a moot point, if he actually worked as a nurse around here we'd lose money, we're adult industry lifers now :)

Indeed ! I was actually licensed in two adjacent states. One turned up the 'adult' industry connection during the 'new' background check for license renewal, while the other didn't !!!

I 'hear that' as well !!! As you allude to, this really boils down to the degree of risk being taken. Obviously the possibility of 'compromising' future professional opportunities ( and earnings potential ) due to an 'adult' industry background being exposed means a lot more ( financially speaking ) to someone investing 6-8 years worth of effort and hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition costs, than it does to someone investing 2 years worth of effort and a few thousand dollars in tuition costs !!!
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
I am undergoing a background check as we speak for a vanilla professional healthcare job. I will let you know how that turns out. I lost my prev job last year when my videos were discovered. I have already obtained two other positions since then without any problems. The current check is out of state with a new license for that state pending.
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
^^^ please keep us informed SophieL ... and good luck !!!
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
Just a quick update.. I did get new licensing in another state without any apparent problems. Still awaiting bg check results...
Re: Camming, BG checks, and doctoring/midwifery after
Update... I passed my background check :) Go for training next week and then start in March. It is good news to know that my life in this world is still hidden from prying eyes. I just hope to keep doing this and build up my fan base on camming. I really dread going back to vanilla work but need the money.
