I work it because well, I live here and I always work but no, it is NOT lucrative. These guys just don't have the money for the expensive VIP rooms in NYC. One of their checks would only pay for an hour if that, barely any drinks, and def no tip. I think I took one up for a half hour last year cause I saw him awkwardly standing by the stairs that lead up to VIP and he had no idea what he was doing. He paid the $300+ but we didn't order anything other than u know like a redbull vodka and there wasn't any tip and his boys were texting him non-stop. So no, I wouldn't come to NYC specifically to work fleet week. These kids are used to going into ports with MUCH much lower prices and lots more offered. If you're in NYC, I always say work, you never know...
Never even heard of it.
It's when all the Navy ships come into port in Manhattan for a week.
No money.
Fleet week sucks.
While I love military people because of the work they do, the sacrifices they make, their selfless dedication to preserving freedom and protecting American people... etc... As customers, they are not the best. Let's just leave it at that.
as someone who once served in the military, i can tell you that as a dancer, i could wipe my ass with that paycheck without batting an eye. jus sayin
edit: just trying to point out that the clientele probably don't have much money to spend--esp for NYC prices.
