My face is starting to look old
Inspired by that "when are you too old to dance" and my upcoming birthday, I find myself looking really old.
my skin just.... Doesn't look "the same". It looks dull and "leathery", not a lot though like Carlton from real housewives of Beverly Hills. Just... A little too much. I want to do everything I can to prevent further aging, as well as hopefully reverse some damage.
So besides Botox, retin a, no sun, healthy diet with no sugar, fillers... What can you do?
has anyone done a chemical peel? Or is that a little overboard? I am under 30.

Re: My face is starting to look old
Do you fake tan, smoke, or drink often? Avoiding all three is pretty key in not speeding up the aging process.

Re: My face is starting to look old
Someone will have to look at you in person to really say, I find a micro-dermabrasion is effective. My reaction was extremely red, sensiitive skin, so have a two or even three days you can take off, no makeup and stay inside away from the sun helps. If you don't have a reaction, or get back to normal faster, no harm done. The PA or whomever at the derm's office will tell you about the steps to take afterwards, most likely including sunscreen.
I'm in Fl too, and find that the vampire hours help my skin stay nice without needing to spend 100s on sunscreen. If you are going to continue tanning, or have boating as a hobby, your skin is going to show it regardless unless genetics are on your side hardcore.

Re: My face is starting to look old
Chemical peels are a form of exfoliation but it's not good if you have sensitive skin, and you would have to stay away from direct sunlight for a few days or the results could be bad.Try milk bath's...

Re: My face is starting to look old
wait, self tanner on your face speeds up aging? i thought only real tanning did that 0.o
cutting down on stress is really important too. cortisol isn't good for your skin. maybe do some yoga, meditation, clear unhealthy people out of your life, plenty of orgasms ( yes that last one actually works to slow down the aging process)
i heard peels really do help with aging, kind of like what retina A does. it really gets down to the dermis! where a lot of things only touch the epidermis..which doesn't prevent deep wrinkling. add tons of water and green tea into your healthy diet with lots of healthy fats like avocado, nuts, sweet potato, etc. definitely don't lose too much weight, as that can make you look drawn, old, and it exaggerate wrinkling.

Re: My face is starting to look old
Also curious about the fake tanner?
I tried retin a and could already tell that it's amazing and made my skin look like I want it to.. But it's too much maintenance for me. I will look into chemical peels, everything else I am doing already.
For me, the opposite of too thin is what caused some of my wrinkles. I have crows feet because I have chubby cheeks and high cheek bones so every time I smile it causes these wrinkles to worsen. Have been doing Botox for a few years but it's not really helping..

Re: My face is starting to look old
My skin looks great when I juice organic veggies. Get proper sleep and drink enough water. Don't forget to take your vitamin d2 and d3 since we get no sun.
Eta - these are suppose to keep the skin young. I like taking them bc they help me with mild depression. Especially with this winter mess we have. http://m.vitaminshoppe.com/mobile/st...g&gclsrc=aw.ds

yeah im the same way, but believe it or not its a huge plus! high cheek bones and full cheeks are very youthful looking! when you age you lose so much elasticity and fat in your face, it will be a good thing that you naturally have those defined full cheeks

Re: My face is starting to look old
^ When u lose the fat from your face / elasticity you'll have a bony skelleton face...soon you'll have to choose your face or your body. if you're white just get laser treatments! they're made for white skin

Re: My face is starting to look old
i like peels, microdermabrasion and lasers in addition to all of the things you mentioned. peels at probably the best because you can chose from so many types and strengths and do them at home. start mild with glycolic 20% and build up, experiment to lactic acid or pumpkin.

Re: My face is starting to look old
Vitamin C serums are supposed to be even better than retin a. I use chemical exfoliation (tretinoin cream and Stridex), daily moisturizer, and lots of sun block. Also, are you getting enough sleep? Sleep and stress totally affect how I look.

By fake tan I meant tanning beds. No idea about the self tanner lotions.

Re: My face is starting to look old
Definitely recommend exfoliation - which is in line with the others recommendation of things like microdermabrasion.
I noticed my skin looking 'older' when I hit the mid 20s. I noticed it looked better when I ate better, got better rest, moisturized my face, got sunlight (with sunglasses on to keep the eye wrinkles away), and 1x/week I use an exfoliating face mask I noticed my face looked more youthful and glowing.
Plus if all else fails, I tell people I'm older than what I really am so they can respond in awe and tell me how young I look lol!

Ahhh... I was starting to worry. Pale is not a good look on me..
I'm going to look into the laser and possibly do retin a again...

Re: My face is starting to look old
Do you drink a lot of water every day? Just being dehydrated can make you look older. You should also be moisturizing daily, even if you feel like you don't need it.

Re: My face is starting to look old
Sunscreen everyday even when it's cold of at least SPF30 and I use 50 during the summer. Eat healthy it needs to start from inside out plenty of fruits, veggies, chicken or fish. Up the intake of water at least 2000ml per day. Work out and stay active. Also I would recommend you see a dermatologist I saw one because I had a facial skin infection and she recommend certain products drugstore at that, very honest after I just spent $300 dollars on dermalogica products. No smoking.

Re: My face is starting to look old
I've noticed this as well :( (it isn't serve, but I definitely have sun damage that's starting to become more noticeable) and I'm looking into getting an AHA peel or Fraxel laser treatments. A girl I work with has had three laser treatments-her skin looks amazing, soft, fresh, youthful and she swears by it (she's in her 30's). You can buy over the counter peels, which help slightly in the short term (if you have a healthy lifestyle i.e. get enough sleep, eat right, drink plenty of H2O etc). If you do go ahead with a peel or laser, let us know how you find it :).

Re: My face is starting to look old
Twiiiins! I'm 25 too and I feel like I'm looking old as well. Since I stopped drinking, my skin isn't "tired" anymore. I now look my age or younger. I would often get ppl guess I'm much older. I really really try to stay away from the sun. I don't use tanning beds even though I love them. The mia brush works great. Moisturizer moisturize moisturize. I do it morning, noon and night. I literally cake on my night moisturizer. Every time my face looks like it needs a boost I splash it with water and then moisturize.

Re: My face is starting to look old
oh also look into red light therapy!!. its amazing, you can get it at planet fitness or order your own little mini one for home use. after just one treatment my skin feels moist and starts flaking dead, dry skin and looking radiant underneath. it will take quite a few treatments and you'll need to stick with it, but it really works.

Re: My face is starting to look old
I am gonna check out the laser.. They have some groupons in my area but I am hesitant.. I refilled my Retin A prescription and want to start again tomorrow but the last time my skin flaked horribly. Not sure how I can make it part of my routine on a permanent basis but it is the truth though :)
Other than that, the healthy eating, not smoking etc. I am doing already and have been. I guess some of us are just not as genetically blessed.
BTW I had botox done on friday and my brows are wonky!! what a nightmare.. This isn't the first time I've had it done by far but now the second time this has happened to me. With 2 different doctors.

Re: My face is starting to look old
a lot of ppl get botox to specifically lift or change the shape of their brows so you have to tell the dr not to do that, they'll probably just assume.luckily its correctable, since there are 2 muscles(one pulling up and one pulling down) in each area, if one was injected in a way you didn't like you can always go back and have the dr neutralize it by injecting the other muscle.it'll also wear off soon.
for retain a use less, go down a strength level and dilute a small amount in moisturizer till you're not flaky.

Re: My face is starting to look old
Are you working your upper body with high reps? Maybe you are clenching your face muscles a lot. So the muscles are getting big and maybe also loosing too much subcutaneous "face fat".

Re: My face is starting to look old
Finally, after 3 weeks my face just finished peeling from a 30% TCA peel! I literally have pretty much been hiding in my house -- between the peeling and the neosporin all over my face I didn't want to be seen in public. Worst part was that I couldn't work out or go to yoga because you're not supposed to sweat. Not everyone can do a peel like this because they can't afford to take the time off from work, but if you can, your skin will look amazing. My skin is baby soft now, the fine lines and spots are gone!
Alternatively, regular glycolic peels will do the trick over a number of weeks. And, like charlotte says, using just a bit of retin-a mixed in with your eye cream helps. I have to be careful, too, because I'm fair and it's really irritating to my skin, but it works.
I'm not as young as I used to be either, and I've ramped up my supplements (collagen, hyaluronic acid, D3/fish oil along with a bunch of other things). Also making sure to eat lots of healthy fats (especially guacamole). A good Vitamin C serum will help to keep your skin in great shape, too.

Peels like that scare me because I see how red Axl Rose stayed for so long even though his skin was smooth.

Don't be afraid of it, tons and tons of women (and men) do it and have great results. It's only with a deeper peel that you'll get rid of fine lines, etc. However, you have to be really careful in the sun and your skin will be much more delicate. Also, it's important that you get it done by someone who knows what they are doing. I've have it done about 4x over the past 10 years and it always looks great afterwards.
As far as Axl Rose is concerned, he's probably the exception rather than the rule. Although your skin may be a bit pinkish right after you peel, it goes away very quickly. I just finished my peel, and my skins is completely normal.
