ash wednesday
I don't think I've ever danced on Ash Wednesday before. I'm from/in/never really leave New Orleans and have been taking time off work because I'm too stressed out and drained by things in my personal life to handle Mardi Gras crowds. I'm giving up avoiding work (and people in general) for Lent. Has anyone ever gone to work with ashes on your forehead? Did everyone just accept that it's pretty normal to be Catholic, or did lots of customers give you shit for it?
edit: lol at "lots of customers." Obviously I know it will be pretty dead.

Re: ash wednesday
I usually wipe them off before I do my makeup. Is that not an option?

Re: ash wednesday
I usually don't work on ash wed because I dont want to wipe them off, and no I don't think it will be seen as very sexy. Last wed I wiped mine off and just went to work, and no no girls had ashes on their forhead, though very few of our girls are religious. Yet alone Catholic.

Re: ash wednesday
I know personally I would feel very awkward if my coworkers came to work with ashed foreheads.

Re: ash wednesday
If you're comfortable fielding the questions and ignorant comments that will undoubtedly arise, and deal with the weird looks from people who don't know any better when you're on stage or walking by, I mean, go for it. Arielbriel's suggestion of just wiping the ashes off before doing your make up makes the most sense to me, but to each their own.

Re: ash wednesday
people do ashes on their foreheads? wow i guess im a hick, never seen that before in my life. i wouldn't think it would be suitable for work, if its important to you than i'd do, it but skip work unless you wanna remove it

Re: ash wednesday
I'm going to get my ashes in a bit on my way to work and then I'll be taking them off when I arrive to work... pretty simple.

Re: ash wednesday
if you're not okay with the ashes getting wiped off then I would stay home. even if 99% of the club gets it im sure there will be that one guy who will go "oh theres something on your forehead" and wipe them off for you and if thats going to make you freak out then its not worth going in.
other than that, I 've never seen ash wednesday being widely celebrated so I cant imagine the clubs being dead or anything.

Re: ash wednesday
I decided to just take one more day off. blamed it on the thunderstorms. I seriously do need to start working again, though. Some years I'm tough enough to dance during Mardi Gras season, but this year I definitely was not and it really screwed up my finances.

Re: ash wednesday
Generally I didn't work this day. I usually went to church in the evening and it was later by the time I got out. I had never given it much thought but now I wonder how people would wonder about seeing the ashes while dancing.
