I saw this article today, and the main thing that jumped off the page and into my head what the $3 lap dance price.
Times have sure changed!

$3 table dances. That's not so shocking. There are still many rural clubs today with $10 table dances. $3 in 1984 is $6.90 in today's money. Plus they probably were expected to tip on top of that.
Supposedly the lap dance was invented in 1977 but in 1984 it was still rather uncommon. That's the big change :)
I remember $5 and $10 lap dances at the Vu.
I'm not positive, but I think you can still get $10 lap dances in Phoenix, AZ. I visited the club in the article in the late 1990's, and was never approached by a dancer, so I don't know what the lap dance cost was back then.
I'm intrigued by the history of the business and what my "sisters" from the past did for their jobs compared to what I do today.
a more relevant question would be what your 'sisters' from the past did NOT have to do to sell lap dances !!!Quote:

In West Michgian, there are clubs that do dollar table dances, but we just charge 2 or 3. Then private dances are either 10 or 20 and you keep all of it.
It adds up and it makes it lesss like pulling teeth.
There are still clubs that have '2 for 1' dance specials where you get two lapdances for 20$, sometimes with a bullshit T-Shirt or hat (the REAL reason these cheapass motherfuckers make the girls do it, because they bank off shirt sales) If the DJ is any good he will cut the hell out of the songs so the girls don't have to dance as long, but not always. But the stupid among the customer base will often wait until then to get the dances, especially if they know it's going to be once an hour or so.
I worked in one club where there was a lot of BJs and some of these girls would then be sucking dick for ten dollars a song! Though many of them were butt ugly and/or fat, it was still mind boggling how this could go on without a strike or them all quitting.
Oh yeah the last club I worked up in Daytona had 'Dollar Dances' once a night, which were strictly table dances and the DJ would switch songs like every 20-30 seconds so the girls could still make something as they were supposed to move around the club rapidly from guy to guy.
Theoretically it generates excitement (especially with the music jumping all over the map within 3-4 minutes with all genres switching back & forth & crazy songs etc.), and also gets the guys into the experience so they will then have the girls give them a regular dance afterward.
That was also the last club I worked which had 'Table Dances' for 10$ (in addition to private dances for 20) which was the standard dance back in the 80s-90s before lapdancing took over. But no grinding dicks or touching the girls (though it went on in some of the wilder clubs after lapdances became widely available).
Yeah the lapdancing did open a big can of worms as far as the extras going on & the shit the dancers have to put up with now from guys in private. Some stuff did go on in some of the wilder table dance clubs, but there wasn't much dick sucking out on the floor next to the stage lol.
$3 dances doesn't shock me. When I started the dances were $5, though they were bikini but another club (topless)about 20 minutes away charged $5 for a topless dance.
WEll the place that had it was basically a club, which was once a residence, that had been a club since the 1960s- but there were no extras going down in the place. The staff was known for kicking out riffraff and they watched the vip area closely.
we had ten dollar table dances up until a year ago. and on a holiday weekend we did 2 dollar table dances ( the songs were just really short, and we'd all rush around all at at once and give mini dances to the guys with 2 dollars in their hands. it was fun, and added up!!)
the fact that we only have 20 dollar lap dances and have to do much more for such a low raise in cost is what has me shaking my head
Knockouts still has the $5 table dances.
