So I got this Pepper Spray
I needed some pepper spray. Because we live in a dangerous world. With lots of rapey men.
But it's illegal in NY. So I got in my car today and drove to PA.
And I got this Attachment 36941
I feel so much better now.
Has anyone ever had to use pepper spray? Had it sprayed on them?
Any tips or comical anecdotes appreciated!
Re: So I got this Pepper Spray
I'm glad you got it-mine's pink, too-but posting in the the stripping general forum would lead some to believe you plan on bringing it to work. Do you plan to just have it on your key chain or on your person/in your purse at work? Also, since it's banned in your state, you'd have some legal troubles upon initially using it-hope you never have to-even in self defense.
Re: So I got this Pepper Spray
Be very careful, if it's illegal in New York and you don't have a permit to carry it. Using a concealed weapon in New York even to defend your life can mean some serious jail time for you. Because you were carrying an illegal weapon. Saving your own life doesn't justify breaking the law.
So be very careful deciding when to pull out the pepper spray.

Yes, yes it does.
I get the point of your post. But no laws will stop me from saving my own life.
Anyway, no it's not for at work... maybe this thread can go in the Lounge? OR ladies only?

I agree, if it's me hell yeah I'll do what I need to. I wrote that in the mindset of an NYC prosecutor.
There is the saying. "Better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6."
Just be careful even getting caught with it can mean serious trouble whether or not you use it.
Re: So I got this Pepper Spray
I have a similar kind to you, it's not illegal in LA but it is in London... I usually carry it on my key chain but I think I'm going to chuck it since I don't want to get in trouble for having it.
Practice taking it out/unflicking the safety. My friend got mugged a few years ago and had her pepper spray on her, she pulled it out but she was nervous and fumbled with the safety and it gave the guy enough time to knock it out of her hand and punch her in the face.
Re: So I got this Pepper Spray
Luckily they're legal in my state so I'm going to get one. I want to get the kind that looks like a tube of lipstick lol but I also want to be able to keep it on my keychain. They also just recently legalized stun-guns here which is awesome, they definitely scare guys off. I had one a couple years ago before they were legal back when I lived in Detroit. The police there suck and I could get away with anything, but crime was high in my neighborhood so I stayed equipped.
I do think saving your life justifies breaking the law (to an extent, of course). I also believe it's better to have a self-defense weapon and not need it than to NEED a self-defense weapon and not have one!
Re: So I got this Pepper Spray
I have that exact same pepper spray!!! I carry that and my taser on me when I'm out and about in Detroit. I live and work in downtown Detroit, so I have them with me when I leave the club at night, too.
Re: So I got this Pepper Spray
I have that same one too! I live in NY as well, so I got it while I was on vacation in Florida.
When I moved here from the South I brought my pepper spray with me not knowing it was illegal, and when I had to evict a roommate I was "caught" with it going through the metal detectors at the courthouse (I say "caught" because I didn't know at the time that it was a problem). There was no drama - the cop said that I couldn't have it, I told him that was fine and I'd pick it up on the way back out, and he said it wasn't legal in NYC. He put it in a trashcan and sent us onto into the courthouse.
THEN I was curious about what exactly NY chicks were supposed to do to protect ourselves, so I called the local PD and asked what I had to do to be allowed to carry mace or a tazer gun. For a good 15mins we did the whole "what can I do to be allowed to carry a weapon? (nothing) Ok so what class can I take to be certified? (there is none) Ok so is there a place I can buy a weapon that's approved? (no) So what kind of thing would be considered legal?" And after about 15mins of that, the cop was like "look lady, you sound like a normal law-abiding citizen, and if you're out later at night just walking your dog we likely wouldn't have a reason to search you anyway, but IF we did and we found it on you, honestly we'd probably just confiscate it and tell you to leave.... ok?" And I was like yep, thank you sir!
So I carry mine now - still illegal I know but I feel much safer walking home at night around Brooklyn.
