Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I am #4 and #5.
I've always tried to give enough hints in Camming Connection that if another camgirl wanted to figure out who I was that she could if she was reading closely enough but not enough that a random custie of mine could easily figure it out.

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
My cam name isn't identical to Staples but staples is somewhere in all of my cam names. I use a couple different variations but everyone knows me as staples. Most of my real life friends know me as staples too so I'm about as out as a person can be. Siri, on my iPhone calls me staples and my 12 year old niece heard it once... that wasn't embarrassing or anything to have come up at the dinner table LOL.

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
When I worked in LA I was very intense about being secretive on this site, but because I feel like the stripping community there is SO small and there are a ton of LA girls on here and I bitched about my club a lot. But I have become less intense about being secretive since I started working in London, just because there are so few Londoners on this site and London is absolutely bursting with clubs and dancers. Plus, I feel like I'm one of 5 American girls dancing in London so keeping my identity a secret isn't really that much of an option if someone REALLY wanted to match me. I prefer not to post my stripper name or anything to make it super obvious though, and over the years I've only ever met two girls from this site at work-- one in LA and one in London, both turned out to be quite cool!

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I don't mind getting outed to custies. All the things I say about them on here, I would say into their face, as well.
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I use this name for everything adult. It's easier for me to use just one name for everything.

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I don't know about you, but I find the vanilla world a pretty lonely place a lot of the time. Who I am in on here and on WCG is who I really am (StSlutface or SaintSlutface), and professionals will see my cam personality (TheLydiaRyder) as a character but proof I exist as a real flesh and blood person. At least that's how I hope. I don't share IRL personal information but I am a big fan of reducing the stress or discomfort of other models by 'proving' I am who I say I am. Especially in a business with so maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany creepers. I've met too many cool people on here to be an anonymous internet person.

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I guess I'm also pretty open about where i am because i don't publically name custies here and such unless I feel it srsly necessary. i don't tend to complain openly in public cuz
a) who want's to hear that shit and if they do, i have a livejournal from 2004 where i am totally emo and sad
b) if someone encounters me and i'll i've done is complain about how much i hate everyone/everything/etc, how would i even begin to turn that around to try and turn them on?
c) it's really hard for me to lie....or, not so much lie, but.....maintain an illusion? i talk about my love of local sports teams and the weather, i can't really lie about my age because i'll randomly blurt out "i used to ove this song when i was in fifth grade!" or whatever.
DISCLAIMER: i am not saying anyone here does any of the above things, this is not about anyone but me.

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I feel okay with 'outing' my online persona here. I haven't had anything untoward happen (yet). I'm prepared enough for being outed IRL. That said, I totally respect and understand the reasons for those that do keep their cam identities secret. Also, I don't like to use drastically different usernames because I tend to forget them, lol.

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
Thanks to all the ladies that have posted already! There is a lot of food for thought here, and it's great that so many of you have had good experiences being open/partially open about your cam persona. I'm kind of surprised - I thought there would be more commentary from some of the more anonymous ladies on the forum.

These are some great reasons to keep custies ignorant of my SW identity. I'm sure I'll have some super-TMI posts sooner or later, and I would never want custies to know some of that stuff, lol. I'm sure some of you totally-out ladies only discuss your TMI and custie-unfriendly stuff in Verified, though, so maybe it's not an issue.

This resonates for me, and is part of the reason I'm wondering about being more "out." It seems like it would make it easier to get closer to people without having to worry about revealing too many details about your cam persona.
Also, getting your stream/outfit/photos checked is something that would be really helpful, and I hadn't even thought about that.
In any case, please keep it coming, ladies! Hearing all your different opinions is really interesting and helpful!

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I had become more secretive about my identity because when I was camming, too many people recognized who I was. I got a makeover, removed my face pictures of all websites I'm at, and no more!!!

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
After seeing the responses here, I have changed from level #7 - PM Only to level #6 - Hinted in Verified. :)

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
My name is me. I keep shit simple.
However a good while ago there were less models on here with their cam names as their usernames here. I seemed to be sticking out in that regard. I had a post talking about something and due to it's nature someone accused me of trying to promote myself. I'm glad that view is gone now because personally I feel that my intentions as a cam model positively reflect also who I am on cam. Also, I am not trying to actively hide it. I also don't have much of a safety issue with it. I guess it really depends on what helps you feel the most safe.

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I was #2, #3 and #4
But right now i keep #8 and maybe
in the future #6.
I also edited a lot of my previous posts

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I'm out and proud. My screen name pretty much does that for me, even without my twitter link haha
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
:bump: because this question has come up again. Also, for those that weren't here or missed it the first time around.
For what it's worth, I'm still at level #6 - I've dropped sufficient hints in Verified (but I think you'd have to dig to find it), and I've given out my cam identity via PM. I think I haven't really outed my cam persona on SW because I don't want to be laughed off the forum if somebody notices how inconsistent I am about getting online, lol!
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
Here is where I say what I really think, and that very often is at odds with my cam persona. I also talk relatively freely about my camsites and my opinions of them. Unfortunately ive been burned before by people who knew my cam name and so I keep it private. Im not adverse to most camgirls knowing but I prefer not to kill the fantasy for my customers hehe!
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
Oh wow, I missed this the first time around so thanks for bumping! I'll give it a read tomorrow as I'm off to bed now.
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I am really new to the forum so I didnt even know people were so careful with it. I didnt even know there was a "verified" subforum until 30 seconds ago.
I guess I can see why strippers would want to keep their identities hidden. Real life relationships can get much more hairy, and they wouldnt feel comfortable talking about their club here, etc. Camgirls have much less to fear.
I wouldnt mind sharing my cam identity with anyone who wants to know on PM. I wouldnt do it publicly because everyone else is hiding theirs so it would put me at a disadvantage.
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
You know, I'm not totally sure where I'm at on the spectrum. There are definitely ladies here who know who I am. I think I told all of them via the old private chatzy or through PM though, so it's probably a combo of #5 and #7. I'm not cocky enough to pretend that I haven't accidentally dropped hints in other ways though.
I think how much you out yourself on the forum is something you need to consider as deeply as how much you out yourself on cam. It's a public forum and not everyone viewing it is here for benevolent reasons--trolls, stalkers, etc.
Also, there's something to be said of a user with their camming name as their forum name (or very close to it) claiming they're on 100% lockdown in camland (fake name, fake location, altered look/accent) that then regularly posts personally identifying information such as location, age, or photos in other threads. It's like having a stalker so you lock down your personal facebook but then leaving your personal twitter totally public and posting up geotagged pictures of where you ate dinner last night. What's the damned point of security?

Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I initially signed up on here with the name I use for all my adult work, and began to regret it pretty quickly. Because much as my work persona is similar to me, I needed a space where I didn't have to put everything I say through the "customers might read this" filter. So I created this account. I'm not in verified yet (as I'm mostly a lurker), but if I was, I wouldn't have any problem with linking my work name to this name there. I'm not hiding who I am.... more just.... protecting my brand in public.
Customers know me as someone who loves camming, and never finds it hard, or challenging. Someone who is full of energy and bouncy and always eager to get on cam. I don't want to spoil that by bitching about how hard work this is sometimes, how I just can't face putting on the makeup and pretending to be a cis-femme for hours every day. They don't want to know that I have a cyst on my cunt, and how to work around that, or how I get the housework and cooking done around my camming shifts.
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
There are a few ladies on here who know my cam persona but that's it. I like to bitch about custies, how frigging exhausted I am and ask stupid questions so nothing I want potential camming clients to know about lol.
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I use my camming name across the board on forums like these. But I have no regrets since I tend to keep the conversations light because that's just how I am with internet and social media now. I don't want to reveal too much anyway.
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
Well I'm Jess Ryan! I say some stupid stuff, I'm not politically correct and guess what? I don't give a fuck. ;-)
-
Re: Outing yourself on SW??
I don't really care if regular members know who I am or not, but I'd prefer not having customers know because I like to bitch about the annoying ones. And ask awkward questions at times.
