I'm trying to get some general industry opinions on LiveJasmin.com, specifically from American performers- Do you perform on LiveJasmin? If not, but you are a cam performer, then why do you chose not to?

Ridiculously low percentage, horrid traffic (mostly beggars), takes a month to get paid. Not worth my time.
that's a pretty good description of it
Some of you asked if there was a LJ thread and there is. I'm bumping it for you to see
Thanks for bumping the thread, Jane. Full disclosure- I don't work for LiveJasmin but for a company that has been contracted by them to get opinions from performers not currently on the site in order to find ways to improve. As others have noticed, the site has been somewhat re-branded as Jasmin.com, with a greater emphasis placed on quality HD feeds and providing the best possible product in order to separate itself from other sites. They've also opened another customer support department based in the US to handle all native English-speaking traffic. I've read through the threads on the board and I understand they may have lost some good performers along the way during the transition, which is why I am here to see what would help.
Please understand that my job is to prepare a report to them with suggestions only, not names and complaints. I've already had one person on this board tell me performers might be unwilling to open up to me out of some fear of repercussion. I can assure you that's not the case. My job wouldn't
Thanks again.
If you are looking for other websites similar to LiveJasmin, I think this one is cool:
I actually use chaturbate myself :) in case you wanna watch:
I used to be on LiveJasmin. I tried it for one summer and made about $200. I can't blame such a poor performance all on Livejasmin because I really didn't know what I was doing. It's not like Chaturbate or MFC where a certain type of hustle goes well, but I just couldn't figure LJ out. Most of the customers had weird, illegal requests. They were rude and impatient. There were a lot of freeloaders and fake tippers. The payout was too low. I didn't like the rating system. After my newbie sticker was gone, I had horrible traffic (like 16 people in my room) but if I said i was going to do something really freaky, a dozen guys would suddenly appear, which i found suspicious.
The only good thing was support was always available to chat. I think it's funny that you say they opened up another support department. In my experience, that's not where the trouble is.
I'm still trying to put together a list of issues most models have with Jasmin that are based on real obstacles and not perceptions like "the members are cheap". I'm not trying to dismiss those observations, but it's also true that there are a lot of performers who do very well on the site, so I'm looking for something a bit more concrete. Based on information I've collected here and on the site itself, these are the top 3 issues I am going to highlight as areas for the site to address.
1. Profile Picture Requirements- High-res professional looking pictures are too difficult or expensive for models to come by.
2. "Appearance" and "Audio" deductions. Efforts to provide a better product for members has turned models away because they don't agree with some of the standards or the way they are enforced.
3. Mac user- JasminCam (standalone software) is currently not compatible.
Anyone feel I am missing something important for the list? An issue that can actually be addressed and isn't a general observation that could be applied to just about any cam site?
Thanks.
PS- The length of time it takes to get paid on Jasmin is a common misconception, which is why it's not on my list. You won't receive your first check for close to a month, but after that the payments come regularly every 2 weeks as long as you make $100 or more, as others have already pointed out.
The issues you listed do not reflect the feedback you received in this thread, so I would be surprised if any other members speak up. While it's true that there will always be a handful of people who can succeed no matter where you drop them, if the general perception is negative (low percentages, low traffic, slow payout), then you should probably listen to that majority feedback.
Charlie-
Thanks for chiming in. A simple search of the entire message board (and not just this thread) turned up plenty of instances highlighting at least the first two things I listed as common problems performers have had. Those are real issues that can be resolved and perhaps convince someone to try the site. Do you think it would be a better idea for me to come here and stand on a soapbox with piles of data on sale statistics and revenue numbers and argue with every model who didn't do well on the site instead?
This is the biggest one. Their photo requirements are WAY too strict. Not everyone can access professional photographs. Lots of us can take great looking photos on our HD webcams. I understand they want everything to be high quality but it has become bit ridiculous at this point. I had a photo rejected because my entire head was not in the photo... a small portion of my forehead was not showing and they rejected it for my full head not being in the shot. It's just silly.
I'm also not understanding the need for 3 different profile pictures for "glamour" "regular" and "explicit".
I actually really enjoy the site other than that. I think people are too quick to read things here and write it off before trying it out themselves.
I gave up on 'em before I even started on there..they keep sending me emails telling me to 'verify'
I can't stand the profile pic requirements. Made me not go back for a couple weeks
Especially now that as of today they are deducting 5% if we don't have all 3 required profile photos. The photo requirements are just really, really unrealistic. Seriously. What's the point? You CAN take a good photo with a high quality webcam. Now they actually say we need to hire a professional photographer in order to have "acceptable" photos.
Would be nice if the OP came back and gave some insight on the insane photo requirements.
Oh shit! Just logged in to see if "DanceYourselfClean" actually did their job. Nope. Now it says in the News section that all profiles without a glamour photo uploaded by July 10th will suffer a 5% commission deduction. I think that's our cue to leave
I work on lj and i like it, lots off traffic yes lots of beggars... i only work 5 -41/2 hours and do decent i dont split with any other cam... yes there pic requirements were strict when i first started 6 months ago... but just a few days ago... they really got more wayy stricter, i finally managed to get a pic they accepted for all three profiles glamour erotic and explicit.. but i am going to get real professional ones because the ones they accepted are horrible of me but they wouldn't accept any other ones and its better than having no profile pic and being deducted so its whatever...lol until i get my professional ones done.lj is the type of website you really have to devote yourself to get a good hourly wage.. the top girls there don't split cam and go on every day for at least 5-12 hours!!! so that's y they make a lot of $$$$ they are consistent... that's what i have followed since i have been there and it works.... so low money in the beginning and in long run it pays off for just sitting there :) from all the regulars you build up....
The "Glamour" thing was definitely not my doing. I could only offer suggestions, and "Glamorous Jasmin" was not one of them. It's nice to know that there were people following the thread though.
The US LJ offices where I work are still relatively new, and all the decisions on the content/rules/direction of the site come from Europe. I empathize for the US girls who work independently and not in a studio that has a photographer on staff. If you were in the LA area I would say come to our offices and we will take pictures and we would have them approved no problem :)
If you are an American girl performing on LiveJasmin, it probably wouldn't hurt to remind them any time you have an issue.
I'm a web-model for over 7 years. I started with Streamate and lj, and after choose over Lj. And for over 2 years i worked on Lj. So my main "hate" about that site was:
1)why do they take like forever to pay?
2) bad ban system,i had this danish jerk ass, chapping my ass and insulting me all the time, thats why i actually left. Lj can keep kissing ass to custies, i will not!
3) endless updates, stop it already!seriously! I have been working on many sites i liked some of them, but when they update something everything going bad!
They better bring some traffic than all those lousy updates, who gives a damn about updates? Def not me! Gimme traffic!
Thanks for the update. I quit the site... it was actually pretty decent for me but after the deductions and not being able to get photos approved... it's not worth it anymore since they place you so low without all the requirements met. Really sucks for me because there were a lot of preggo lovers there! :(
I know I must sound against the wave, but, Sarah, if you were actually doing fine, isn't there any professional studio in your area where you could do a good photo shoot? I obbviously don't know how much it costs, but if being on Lj was bringing money every month...
The money made from LJ for having the "proper" photos does not outweigh the cost and hassle of a professional photographer, especially when I don't NEED LJ at all, nor does it remove any of the other completely unrealistic reasons they will continue to try and dock 5% or more from your pay. I split cam many sites, as well as do clips. Any time I decide to drop a site, I'm dropping "extra" money which in this case I simply replaced by working on more clips. I make all my main income from Streamate and choose to split other sites just to bring in extra to have, so LJ is definitely not essential for me.
And also, I'm a stubborn red head, so it's more a principle thing for me at this point. I think the requirements of the site go above and beyond what is reasonable for the amount of paying traffic they bring in. They shouldn't impose such insane requirements when 99% of their models can't make a living using their site without splitting other sites. It's like they want to be the top of the line cam site.... in appearance... but where it matters, they seriously fail.
On a traffic side of things, I stay away from LJ because they have the worst pop-unders. Anytime a random voice pops up and scares the shit out of me, it's almost always LJ popping up in the background. I don't even take a look at the performer, I just close that window as fast as possible. I would venture to guess that other customers are similarly turned off by their advertising methods.
What pop unders, looks like jasmin is going TV!!!!!!
: "We would like to inform you you that our live entertainment show, Jasmin Channel went on air again. The Producers might contact you while you are online in orders to ask your opinions in certain matters, and make some interviews with you. If you choose to answer and help our show, then you will appear on Jasmin Channel, which always means a huge traffic increase to your account and a great opportunity to show yourself to the members!"
When will this site understand we don't want to be STARS, show off for members and be popular, we want money!!! They should be talking about how we get compensated for this activity etc.
DDuckworth was referring to the "pop-unders" that come up when you go to porn sites (like redtube). Rather than receiving a regular pop-up, LJ has the pop-up appear in the background so that you can't click out of it before the ad loads. This usually results in the computer user not seeing the advertisement until the ad starts making noise (usually a clip of a cam model). I find these to be completely obnoxious as well.
As for LJ having a TV channel - I'm sure cam models won't be compensated directly for their TV appearances. Models are motivated to do this based on the assumption that girls who get interviewed will receive increased traffic in their rooms - it's an advertising opportunity.
