Modem dropping internet signal? :(
Does anyone know why a Motorola modem would be randomly dropping my internet? It started doing this about a week or so ago and the drops became more and more frequent. Called Time Warner yesterday and they re-booted it for me and the problem was fixed for several hours until last night I dropped internet twice, and then it happened again about an hour or so ago. I know for a fact it's the modem and not the router, because the little green flashy dot that says "online" on the modem goes out before it registers on the router. :(
I seriously can't afford a new modem, and of course I can't sign *on* to even work for one if it's not working! FFFFFFFFS :(
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
I'm sorry but if your modem is bad there's no way around it but to buy a new modem?
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
Is the modem from time warner? Because if it is their modem, they have to replace it. It could be intermittent connection with the lines or the box. Have them send out a technician.
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
I had that problem late last year it was the modem. Comcast replaced it at no charge. If it's the companies modem they should pay for the replacement.
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
I have centurylink and I had the same exact problems, it ended up being that my internet line was broken and they sent someone out to replace it.
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
Eek. I'll call them monday and see if they can send someone out. Thanks ladies!
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
Time Warner support is open 24/7. Call them asap to get someone out sooner then later.
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
Oh these are so my problems. I already had a technician from comcast come out and replace the modem once. It worked for all of an hour. On top of this the ethernet cable is super touchy on my laptop. One sneeze in the wrong direction and it's disconnected and I have to restart the encoder.
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
I have this problem and got response from my provider that it is either because I am too far away from the exchange (I'm not), or that copper cables from the exchange are too old and set up in the air instead of under ground. The later is true in my case, and the only solution is that the provider fixes and replaces all of the cables in my town (they will not do that in the near future), or that they lower internet speed. :( They replaced the modem and all our cables in the house, but this didn't help. All that only goes if you have xDSL internet connection (ADSL, VDSL..), and not if you have coaxial cable or fiber optic, because these are a lot more stable also at higher internet speeds.

Idk about the modem but for the ethernet cable have you tried replacing the cable or (if it's the ethernet port itself) using a USB ethernet adapter instead of the port?
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
Have a technician coming over. It's likely that your modem will need to be replaced.
I'm so sorry to hear :( Is TimeWarner the only ISP in your area?
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
Well, I've been with them for years.. I don't like the alternative company. Good news, got a new modem! Went to the head office here and it took 30 seconds to exchange it for a new (and free) one.
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
And how is it all working? Would you mind doing a speedtest?
Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
It's been amazing! No drops what so ever. :D
It sounds weird but when I was playing GTA5 Online yesterday it put me into a full session. For the last few weeks it kept putting me in a session with maybe 5-6 people in it, and then two nights ago it dwindled down to just me in a live session. Read online that this can happen if your connection is jumpy or really shitty so ayeee. :) I'll do a speed test later! Although I won't have anything to compare it to.. Should have done one on my old modem. :\

Re: Modem dropping internet signal? :(
Now that your internet is back working again reliably for the moment and you can work, I would STRONGLY advise that you purchase a real modem, and give whatever POS modem they are leasing you for $6 a month back to them. ESPECIALLY if the modem they gave you is only DOCSYS 2.0. DOCSYS 3.0 modems have load-balancing, which, without getting overly technical, means that your internet connection will be infinitely more smooth and reliable in comparison to a DOCSYS 2.0 modem. At only $81 for the best residential DOCSYS 3.0 modem currently available, it will pay for itself quickly in modem lease fees, and likely, even more quickly in increased reliablility (if your leased modem were to go down for a night, and you make more than $81 a night on cam, it paid for itself in one night). Here's a link to the best residential DOCSYS 3.0 modem available if you'd like to do this:

Thanks bb! :D I actually have that on my wish list already. Think you recommended it before and as soon as I can, I'm going to get it. I hate having to lease a modem for 5$ a month because it makes no sense for long term use.
