Would you mind giving some advice? How do you learn to meditate? I've read about it but it would be nice to hear from someone that does it.

I *highly* recommend the supplement L-theanine.
It is the only thing to date that has helped with my severe anxiety disorder.
It has made my anxiety at least 25% better when I take it, which doesn't sound like much but 25% for me is the difference between having a panic attack in public and not having one.
for those of you suffering from anxiety or adhd have you tried changing your diets? I have anxiety and I notice when I eat a low carb diet and avoid sugar and junk food I feel tons better and my anxiety goes away but when I get junk it gets much worse to the point where I feel like it messes up my hustle. I know it's hard to follow that type of diet but it works wonders.
I just wanted to say I appreciate everyone in the thread and your nice comments. It helps to read nice comments when you are feeling sick and down. I was feeling better and then my allergies started up today and on top of that my period started. I hate my period with a passion because I get cramps and then my anxiety sets in. I feel like a hormonal mess and just want to cry until it all goes away. The last two weeks have been hell on my body and I just want to feel better, well better for me.
Something that works for me when I have panic attacks is to change my breathing. Breathing out longer than you breath in activates your parasympathetic system and helps you switch out of the fight-or-flight response. (Dunno if that helps knowing why, but I'm a big nerd and I like to know the whys. YMMV.) So I try to picture myself in a completely dark room and I breathe in for 5 counts, pause for 2 counts, breathe out for 8. When thoughts come in just push them back out and go back to concentrating on the breathing. This has been an easy start to meditation for me and something about it often works for my anxiety.
Hope yours eases up soon.
Strange but true fact.....for some people with anxiety, deep breathing can actually set off panic attacks for them. They start obsessing about their breathing and whether they are doing it properly and that pushes them into a full blown panic attack. The problem is that the sympathetic and parasympathetic system cannot both work at the same time.
Kudos to you for being able to get it to work for you......it isn't an easy thing to do! <3
If you ever want me to talk your ear off about neuroscience......I could bore you for hours about the subject. ;)
I meditate also.. I started again few weeks back when I was having that serious depression... I just lay on my bed after my shower and close my eyes and concentrate on the colors that I see.. And I sing to myself Free your mind and the rest will follow, be color blind don't be so shallow...LOL.. that's my mantra.. and I will lay there and let whatever comes to me for at least 10 minutes,.. some people like to sit up .. but I feel most relaxed laying down... that's the way I have been meditating for 10 yrs now.
This is just how I feel right now.Attachment 38790
Yeah, I forgot to mention how I deal with the panicky thoughts. When they inevitably do come up, I mentally hit the pause button and gently but firmly remind myself that the panicky thoughts are not rational and that I don't have to listen to them. If I have to, I picture one of my crazy religious aunts squawking these thoughts at me, or someone else that I don't take too seriously. But yeah, learning that sometimes my brain will lie to me and that it's best to tune it out has been a big part of learning to control anxiety for me. It's taken me a long time to get to this point.
Yeah, I agree, the brain is a strange and fascinating thing. My chronic illnesses started with a nasty bout with the Epstein-Barr virus, later on my docs told me that the virus had actually changed my brain. I've been obsessed with neuroplasticity ever since, and the idea that maybe I can reverse or change some of the effects that virus had on my brain. So yeah, if you ever need someone to talk neuroscience with, I'm your girl :)
Yess!! I love meeting other sexy geeks too :)
Just coming here to vent. I was at the beach this week and got a sunburn. The sunburn became swelling on my face, my eyes. I can't work. It sucks. I also got my period today so I feel like uber-shit. Hoping the swelling will subside by Monday and I can get back to work. This sucks. </3
This might be the thread to post in... I found out I have PMDD and have since December but it has been getting worse each month. The regular MD tried to give me a prozac prescription, but I'd probably be just as much of a useless zombie on or off of it. I was wondering if any of you have dealt with PMDD using progesterone. I'm currently getting a saliva test so I can't start until next month unfortunately. I need to find out why my hormones drop off right after ovulation, and every month is a struggle. Especially since hubby and I work together. Camming when I'm having an "allergic reaction to my own hormone fluctuations" in a fit of She-hulk rage for no apparent reason is really not an option until I figure out how to fix this. I took SAM-E for months and it worked very well for overall positive mood, but I built up a tolerance and now I need something else natural that works. I feel a Dr jekel mr hyde type thing inside myself and its made me want to renounce my womanhood every time my hormones change, so basically every 2 weeks. If you have used hormone cream supplementation for PMS or PMDD in the phase after ovulation up until a few-days into your period please let me know. Sorry if this has been answered already.
I learned how to meditate by listening to this book. http://www.amazon.com/Real-Happiness.../dp/0761159258 You can ge it in print, but I suggest listening to it as she guides you through the exercises. By chapter 11 I became addicted to meditating. (audible is free for first month)
It also helped me control my thoughts while meditation if I closed my eyes and visualized my mind being still. This is the visual I kept in my head

What Happens to the Brain When You Meditate (And How it Benefits You)

Well I bought progesterone cream from the health food store because of crazy hormonal symptoms (sweat-soking hot flashes at night, intense mood swings, flooding red tide periods) but was to afraid to use it after reading that it can increase cancer and my family has a lot of different cancers. I also tried black cohosh which, when taken one a day for four days, turned into such an effective muscle relaxer that I was nodding off every four hours and not good for anything physical.
What has helped so far, is taking one probiotic on an empty stomach every morning. I let that do its thing for long enough to oil pull with coconut oil. So, I take the capsule, than put a teaspoon of coconut oil in my mouth and slowly work it around for 10-15 minutes, usually while taking a shower. Brush teeth, and take a couple of vitamins w breakfast. Since starting this routine, my hormone issues have calmed down.
I don't know if it is merely having a routine, or if the probiotics are doing something good (gut bacteria are supposed to be vital in our health) or what. Right now I am having my tough period day, but the cramps aren't horrid, and no flooding, just normal flow. Also my man has been home all day while I've been working indy cam shows and I haven't screamed at him once. I did keep the black cohosh around in case a muscle relaxer is needed, but returned the hormone cream. Too expensive and risky. I hope this TMI post helps.
Anyone have jaw problems and what do you ladies do about it? I think I'm clenching my jaw at night so my teeth, gums, cheeks, jaw, and ear hurts. I thought it was from the dental work I was having done but it's been about a month and it's not the same as the dental work pain. My teeth rarely hurts it's more of in my gums now and my cheeks hurt as if force smiling for hours and I haven't been smiling. Ice used to work now it doesn't heat kinda helps. I was taking vicodin pretty often now I can live with about 2 advils a day but waking up in the middle of the touch with cheek pain. I saw exercises online that helped when I first started doing them now they do nothing.
I mentioned this in another thread recently! You can get a generic, cheap retainer from a store like CVS that will help TREMENDOUSLY. I got mine after my dentist recommended it, saying I had visible damage on my teeth from night time grinding. It's only around thirty dollars, you'll boil it once to melt the plastic enough to bite into it, let it dry & you're done! I love my retainer, I got it for the dental damage but it has also reduced my headaches, neck & back pain almost entirely.
My dentist never said anything about my teeth being damaged except for my cavities and I was just there last month for my check up. That's why I think I'm just clenching and not grinding. Last year a few times I'd wake up with my jaw clenched real tight with no pain. Now I just have pain almost all the time. What brand did you get? I see a ton of diff ones on amazon and not sure what to go with.
No idea what brand I got...probably the cheapest one because that's what I do. But I bought mine in store, so you might want to go at least mid-range since it is easier to sell crap online. If you end up getting one you'll have to let me know how it works for you!
So I was going to have a super focused Sunday morning start to the week etc, but have been struck down with the worst food poisoning ever. I just want to jump out of my skin, everything hurts and I feel so crappy. it has however made me realize that if I consistently want to pull upwards of 24 hours a week on cam, I need to take expert care of myself. Eat super clean, exercise, take time off to sleep when I need it, not do anything crazy etc, so that I don't get any more weird sicknesses etc.
I also need to take care of my mental space too, so that I can be strong enough to deal with assholes on repeat every day. Its amazing what you learn when you get sick and try cam.
Ouch! My poor aching back! Anyone else feel like this?Attachment 38801
^^^Have you tried posture belts when you aren't working? I used them when I had boobs I was actually proud of lol. It felt as if the weight was more evenly distributed. Also, IcyHot-if you can stomach the smell-works pretty well.
^^what are posture belts? I will try anything at this point! And the winter cold weather season isn't even here yet!
I just saw the ad for 'icy hot' back pain reliever patch(the pulsing module ones).
I can stand any smell if it works.
I've been camming today with a new lumbar pillow, but if feels so unnatural.
It figures my 2nd exclusive wanted a boob show, and to try on all kinds of un comfy pushup/wire bras.
