legal advise for my low income housing tax review paperwork
OK so 2 years ago I moved into a low income apartment and the rule here is that they wont kick you out if your income goes up as long as you don't lie to them. So a year ago I started camming and this janurary I started camming full time. Now its time for my tax review paperwork. its basically used by them to determine their tax status and get a projection for the next tax year.
When I resigned my lease I saw that it said I needed permission to operate a business out of my apartment, like having a business phone or meeting clients, but since I don't have those, I figured I could skate by without telling them...
I only work SM regularly. Im thinking about saying I do video editing through a website ( on extralunchmoney, I do edit videos based on customer requests) and am considered a independent contractor and just claim ignorance , saying I never thought being paid from a website would be an issue since I don't physically see customers at all or need a business license. Then using the check processor info as my income source( its now ICF on SM checks).
any advice on this?

It's usually better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission, in these scenarios I think.

Operating a business out of your apartment and being self employed and working from home is a lot different.
I'm actually moving a low income unit in a few months. I'm not sure if yours goes by the same rules as mine but our landlord told us "one your in, your in." so basically our income is going by last years tax return when come this Janurary we will have made a lot more and not quality. She said you could win the lottery and still be able to live there. Since we are already in we get to stay. She said that every year they will have us fill out some information about our household to see if any major changes have happened. She said it focuses mainly on family status and if you expect any changes to your household size but also asks about income.
Anyway, I put web designer on my tax documents. While I work at home and from home and I am not operating a business out of my home. So for example, if I had a cookie baking business and sold cookies to people and cooked them out of my home and sold them to them there could be liabilities to the apartment complex if I did not have the right permits and insurance. I suppose this could be the same for selling items like panties but that has loads of other legal issues and just shouldn't be done. Leasing management wants to make sure you are not using the unit to run a business out of (because oftentimes people will rent a low income unit to get a cheaper place to run their storefront type business, but live somewhere else. Or use it to make drugs out of).
Sorry I'm kind of rambling here but no I don't think that your place it going to have an issue with it. I live in a low income unit right now under different rules and tax status than the new one but they have no problem with me being a "web designer" from home.
Re: legal advise for my low income housing tax review paperwork
right now my alibi is that im just a stay at home mom, I have an 11 year old, a 3 year old and a husband and my disabled mother lives with me. So maybe I should just say im unemployed really but I have some web design and video editing knowledge and I will file that I will file that income as an independent contractor?
thanks for helping to calm my fears.

When you filled out the application to live there remember that you also gave them permission to look up your income and bank accounts. So anything you have listed on your tax documents they will be able to see. So if you want something a little more vanilla friendly I would put web designer or something else besides entertainer on your tax documents. I can't claim toys/costumes/lube as deductions but I can claim my computer, camera, laptop, etc.

Providing official permission to check your financial and tax records doesn't necessarily translate into a certainty that the housing authority will actually do this. Best case, they'll simply look at your total reported income for purposes of determining eligibility for 'discount' rent. Worst case, they'll turn up 1099 forms which prominently display the name StreaMates as the 'payer'. Thus much depends on the thoroughness of your housing authority ... which in 'real world' terms isn't likely to do any more digging than is absolutely necessary to 'prove' your benefit eligibility to the gov't agency which pays the discounted portion of your rent.

In a worst case scenario, it could be construed that you are not only operating a business out of a gov't subsidized apartment, but operating an ADULT business out of a gov't subsidized apartment, in close proximity to minors ( neighbor's children ), in an area of your city that is NOT zoned for adult businesses. In a best case scenario, you are simply 'working from home'. So again things fall to the thouroughness of the housing authority ( or lack thereof ).

This is undoubtedly the 'real world' situation ... because if the housing authority was fully aware of your situation the only answer they could give would be 'no f#@kin' way' !!!
Re: legal advise for my low income housing tax review paperwork
Thankfully it isn't through the housing authority.it isn't section 8 or anything. So hopefully that decreases the chance of an issue. Thanks for the advice.
