Re: Being approached on the street!?
My Take: Idc where you live, go, dress, say or don't say..an a-hole gonna be an a-hole..some times/areas/whatever maybe better or worse, your mileage may well vary..
Some guys may take the hint by being told off or given a bad look, & shut up/shut down but many don't..do I really wanna engage an a-hole, or worse have him see me get upset or react? No.
One thing I'm not ok with is being a captive audience for some jerk. Yeah it can be a pain to get up, move out of the way but so can possibly getting grabbed etc.
When I'm out in public (anywhere) what works best for me is to be aware, but ignore with very few exceptions
Re: Being approached on the street!?
It's not the end all solution to this issue, but just a little tip for ya.
I have similar shit happen ALL the time, but I notice that the less I make eye contact with strange guys, the better. (While still of course being aware of my surroundings)
I know it may sound like common sense, but at least maybe it can be something you become more aware of. I always feel like the SECOND I make eye contact is when guys suddenly feel they can start talking.

Yes! Excellent point, I meant to say that too!
Re: Being approached on the street!?
Good advice all around.
I practiced with a really street savvy friend, just walking fast, looking around and ignoring any remarks. No eye contact and having purpose.
The area I live in is a bit dodgy but a lot of it has to be me as well. The body language and captive audience who is unaware. Lesson learnt!!
I have adopted a no stopping for anyone I don't know policy. Directions - no. Money - no. Hollers - no. Extreme caution of anyone trying to approach me.
Re: Being approached on the street!?
It might be the area you live in. It sounds more like you have a bunch of guys trying to holler at you rather than proposition you. I've had guys proposition me at private parties before but they usually start out by simply asking me out to dinner to feel me out I guess.
The other time it was at a upscale bar I was alone getting a drink before I went home I guess it must have looked like I was fishing for clients this guy asks me go come over for a drink I politely decline since he was with other girls he insist I sit down and he hands me a 100.
