The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I'm sure we've all been asked this question. Young women wander in to the club and wonder, "What an abomination!? How could a woman do this to herself?" People think "What little self respect." or "She probably dropped out of high school to do this." Some people just don't get it, while others are merely curious. So now there's a thread about it.
I became a stripper to support my family and the ones I love. I became a stripper to get ahead in life, to buy a car, pay for college, and work to save towards a house before others my age even have their first significant paycheck. I became a stripper to have downtime, to meet people, for the experience. I became a stripper to HAVE experience, to travel, to go to concerts, to take people on journeys with me. I became a stripper to empower myself, and feed my mediocre shopping addiction. I became a stripper, not because I can't do anything else, but because I want to one day have the opportunity to look back on my life and see that I have really lived.
Why did you become a stripper?

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I became a stripper because i had no money and was struggling working a 9-5. Im currently digging myself out of a hole of debt. By april 2015 i plan to have all my debt paid ofd, move to another/better house and neighborhoos, pay all my furniture off, save a nest egg, and buy a jeep wrangler b4 winter 2015.
When i first started i had no clear goals other than needing the money, but recently ive gotten a note book and kept my goals in and thats helped me keep my eyes on the prize.
P.s. i cant wait until sept/oct. Its a drought. Cant wait for the money to pick back up.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I became a stripper because I was in college, and the pay for all the other jobs I looked into was shit. I became depressed at those jobs thinking I was only worth $10/hour. Stripping was taboo, and frankly (embarrassingly!), I was in an "I'm a tortured artist" writer stage. I drank a bunch of whiskey, got a shitty tattoo on my hip, had dysfunctional relationships and just succumbed to what I like to call "beautiful disaster syndrome." And you can bet your ass I wrote some killer poems about it all! I was like a darker Taylor Swift without the guitar strumming.
Not the most inspiring story, but I did grow out of that nonsense pretty quickly, and stripping had a lot to do with it.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I became a stripper because it was the best option for me being 18 and done with school. To be at that age and just be able to take your clothes off to make money versus some shitty retail job it was a no brainer for me :)

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
i became a stripper because i was working 7 days a week for 400/wk :/, sometimes getting up at 2 am. never got to spend time with my son, didn't have my own place, and was wearing myself out for an unlivable wage ..so i went to the nearest strip club and after a few months of learning the ropes ( and learning from some bad mistakes), i got my life together and i don't plan on stopping anytime soon! my boyfriend's family is keen on me getting a new job because they think i am some kind of a "victim", but i don't see it that way at all..i'm a young mom living a decent comfortable life and stripping has made that possible

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I had already obtained a college degree and was working as a Respiratory Therapist in various big city hospitals. I wound up getting divorced, thus becoming virtually 100% responsible for supporting my son, plus ( thanks to my own inattention to legal details ) also responsible for paying off joint debt which my ex had run up before the divorce was final. I was barely 'holding my own' despite working nights, weekends, and holidays. And then I wound up contracting TB from an undiagnosed hospital patient - which temporarily put me out of work.
While collecting disability and watching my financial situation worsen by the day, a new strip club happened to open up in my neighborhood. With rent due and no groceries in the house, I figured 'what the hell'. Obviously, I never returned to Respiratory Therapy.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I had just had a boob job and my boyfriend had walked out on me leaving me with not only my boob job to pay for but the cost of a holiday i'd put on my credit card and instantly doubling my outgoings on rent and bills.
A few months before i'd actually gone on a one day pole and lapdancing course - said boyfriend had been to a strip club with work and i said i had no interest in wanting to go as a customer but hell, i'm a trained dancer and i'd like to give it a go. He paid for the course i think partly out of guilt for going to a club and out of excitement of getting a lapdance. They offered me a job at the end of the course but i said no thanks, i didn't need a job - a few months later i needed that job, so that was the start for me.
It stopped me feeling down over my boyfriend leaving me, i didn't have time to feel down because my 9-5 then dancing 3 nights a week kept me busy - any time i wasn't working i was working out or having my nails/ tan/ massage done and enjoying the hell out of it.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I guess I started stripping because I was super curious about what it would be like and I am extremely comfortable and confident about my body. I just spent months thinking about it so I decided to finally try it. I also ideally wanted a job that is flexible as I want to travel, work a few days a week rather than 9-5, five days a week with barely any time to do what I want, and have enough money to survive whilst working on music and travel. :)

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I became a dancer because it is the most honest job I've ever had. If you work your ass off, you get paid the way you feel you should. If you don't feel like doing shit, you don't get paid. It is fun, it is interesting, it is sexy, it's something different every day, it is great exercise, it is playing dress up every day. I enjoy meeting people from every walk of life; I enjoy helping them, they in, turn help me in many ways. (girls and customers)
I've been sexualized at every vanilla job I've ever had. If you want to look at my ass every day, you are going to need to pay me more than 8 bucks an hour! I don't even care if they want to look at my ass. I am stuck in a vanilla job right now and when I go in the bathroom I dance sexy in the stalls.. I can't wait to go back to dancing!

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I was a nude model/escort for two years before dancing so to me, stripping was just the obvious choice for me once I had gotten burnt out, decided it wasn't for me and had just moved to a different state for a fresh start. I had never had a 'real' job before, so I had no on the books job experience. My mother was very supportive, she was a dancer for 15 years and supported her children without any government assistance from that career, raised me to be open-minded so I never felt that it would be 'wrong' or 'immoral' to try for myself. So I just showed up one night, had the shortest job interview ever and started working the next night, fell in love with being on stage and just kept going. I've been doing this two years now and I plan on doing it for at least two more at least. Stripping has given me a way to provide for my family, a house of my own, confidence that I would have otherwise not gained and a better bullshit meter. Either way, I'm much happier for my change in profession. Eventually I may turn into a web stripper though lol.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I had a friend who did it and talked about the money she made, and I love money so I did it too.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I had always worked as office admin or in the accounting office at for a corporate auto dealer. Less than a year after changing to a position at a tech company I got laid off fall of '08. My every waking hour was spent job searching and I couldn't find anything that would even somewhat utilize my skills. My bf's friend's Gf was a dancer and encouraged me to try it, said it'd beat the hell out of a $7.50/hr fast food job. She was right! I was one of those lucky girls that Made good money from the beginning.
I've taken a break and did a vanilla job for a while but always go back to dancing. Now that I'm back in school it's especially convenient schedule. Oh yeah, and I LOVE $$$

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I knew I could never work a 9-5 "normal" job. I also can't stand the thought of having a boss in the corporate world and the whole "climbing the ladder" concept. I was in my third year of college and I never had felt like it was the right path in life for me personally.
Once I started dancing, I loved it. I love the way I am my own boss and can always be bettering myself in some way. The money I make reflects me and what I put into my work.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I was desperate for money, about to become homeless and needed a job that would pay me that day and not in two weeks. And them I realized I loved it and that it gave me enough money to be independent and do the things I wanted to do while still having the lifestyle I wanted and here I am 5 years later.
Sometimes I feel like it's spoiled me for a real job, like I can't even imagine making £10 an hour and sitting at a desk all day, I wouldn't last 15 minutes.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I had a friend who was doing it who was making really good money while I was barley getting by, so started working with her Im soo lucky I did not have to do my first night alone.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I had bills to pay and as I've found out every time I try a straight gig... I can't hack it in an office.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
Well ... I had no money and rent was due , and to top it off my kids needed school clothes. I went to this small club to because I had no experience and I did WELL:)
Now I'm going back to school, I'm looking for my first investment property to purchase, and I'm happy. I don't regret dancing and I it was the smartest move I've made in my entire life..

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I became a stripper because I don't want thousands of dollars of student loans, and I'm worth more than minimum wage as a college student (hell, even on a bad night dancing, I make over $20/hr...at least so far). I became a stripper because I want my own apartment (buh-bye parents), a new car, and the ability to afford my cat and horse. I became a stripper because I've always had a fascination with sex work. I never understood why it was looked down upon when we all have bodies and we all like feeling good. I never understood why people were embarrassed of their own skin when we all, again, have bodies and come in different shapes and sizes. I used to be ashamed of my body as well, but as I overcame it, I became a stripper to learn how to be proud of it and realize that the human body is such an amazing gift we can actually make money on it. Our bodies are treasures, and it's sad most of the world wants to keep their treasure forever concealed out of fear and shame. I became a stripper to be proud of my life and get me to my goals of vast life experience (traveling, meeting all walks of life, different jobs, etc) and owning an ashram.
Even though I'm tired of it sometimes, I love my job because I'm in control of it. How much effort I put in, how often I go, where I let it take me, I'm in control of every bit. I'm my own boss through and through. You can't say that about most jobs, and I'm proud of being in control.
Edit: Also, all the lingerie I've ever wanted but never bought because there wasn't a point? Well, now it's all tax right-offs and makes me more money. I get to play sexy dress up :D

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I got sick and tired of working my ass into the ground for minimum wage, or for $2.13+tips = slave labour! The last barista job I had was so insane, that it made me snap one day. I just could not do it anymore.
I had a coworker who I worked with at another job that told me she was a stripper before. She told me all the basics, about house fees, stage time, working the floor, etc. That peaked my interest considerably, and I wanted to try it so bad, but my bf wouldn't let me at the time. However, after much raving from me, and after many breakdowns due to financial stress, he finally succumbed and let me work! Actually, I kind of didn't give him a choice, but it worked out in the end. He's 100% cool with it now, and very supportive. :)

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I come from a low income background and have always been content with having "less". I was working in the restaurant industry for a long time and even though I was aware that the money wasn't great, I really didn't mind much. My boyfriend at the time, however, was a different story. He made very good money but it seemed like it was NEVER enough for him, and he started getting on my back and making me feel as if I had no ambition or money-making potential.
I hate to admit this, but I started stripping to satisfy that dude. It was a turbulent relationship. He was ecstatic about me dancing. We ended for other reasons. Mainly he was a selfish asshole. It was very hard on me when we ended because he was pretty much the only person who knew, and my only emotional support system at the time.
Eventually I came into my own, and I'm very happy with my decision. Dancing has bettered my life in many ways. So even though my ex was a dick, I'm grateful for what life changes came from that relationship.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
A friend and I talked about getting a waitresing job and we happened to go by a club that was really laid back sports bar type and started there. Moved to a different side of the city and worked manual labor jobs with mainly men acting like prisoners while my friend started dancing so I thought I'm around a bunch of guys acting worse than in a club and working hard with lots of hours so I went and tried it. I'm saving to buy my own place and start my own business while I'm dancing. I can go travel or buy what I want. I've always been confident but iys helped me with interaction and reading people. Next guy I date I will probably marry because I know what I want now.

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I got tired of being sexually harassed for minimum wage at my retail/ restaurant jobs. I figured I may as well get paid decently if I have to put up with that kind of behavior from customers anyway. Also, my SO was a male stripper at the time and I felt competitive. I figured I could make at least as much as he does. ;)

Re: The "why are you a stripper?" thread
I became a stripper because I like freedom.
