My club just lost it's liquor license
Well, the owner didn't renew in time and now there will be a period of time where we don't have one, so the club is now BYOB starting tomorrow, I think they're allowing us to dance nude. I have no problem with working in a nude, but I'm worried because there is only one other club in town and they are a topless upscale that serves alcohol. I work at a dive in a seedy part of town and I make (or made?) good money there. I'm worried that this is going to cause a huge draw from my club. This is temporary but has anyone had experience with situations similar to this?
And are there any tips when it comes to working nude specifically (like wearing a sarong to put onstage when doing floorwork to avoid contact, etc)? If things get bad enough, I'm just going to travel till everything blows over.
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
Ooh, I hope it works out for you Hun! Sorry I can't offer any hints to help..why didn't he renew? I wonder if they will fine him. I'd think the custys will kinda freak/be weirded out when all of a sudden it's byob..I mean, unless he advertises (which he prob. wouldn't) no one's gonna know at first that it's now byob, & they not going to be prepared to bring booze in w/them right off the bat. then they might think something's wrong & be scared off somewhat? Is there liquor stores nearby, hopefully?
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
There are a handful within a 2-mile-radius but yea, I doubt he's going to do any advertising about it, unless you count changing the sign out front. I was hoping the nudity would be enough of a draw to combat the loss of liquor sales. Man I wasn't expecting this at all, I feel like I should have had a backup club. Me and the upscale just do NOT get along though, the management and I don't see eye to eye.
And I think he did renew, there's just a time period before the new one goes into effect? I have to discuss it with him to find out how long that will be. :(
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
i just dont' let my vagina touch the floor ( one good thing about not being able to do the splits haha), no need to carry a sarong to lay down on stage..i guess some girls might do that when they are giving dances but i've personally never ever seen that. just be sure you don't do pole work naked, or touch yourself onstage with no thong.
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
Idk where I'd heard about the sarong thing, but it stuck with me for some reason. Lol thank you for the response. I'll probably wait until midway through my second (and last) song to unleash the tiger. I'm mainly worried because we are a contact club and I have a vjj piercing. The possibilities make me cringe a bit
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
^ wouldn't they change their rules once it becomes nude?
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
Tbh since it's nude optional I'm really not sure. The last time there was a nude club in my city, I was underage and wasn't allowed into adult establishments.
I have a lot of go over with my manager when I go in Weds night. The idea of air dances alone makes my thighs hurt.
EDIT: I hadn't disclosed this information but I do work in Texas (where I hear a lot of anything goes goes on apparently) and my club is heavy with extras. The management is aware, in fact they joke around about it sometimes. That being said, I've stayed because it's close to my home and it's still lucrative money, even if I'm one of the few 'clean' dancers there.
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
You may not be getting the entire story here. Clubowners don't simply 'forget' to renew their liquor licenses.
Logically speaking, given that there are two clubs in your city, and that the other club has already established itself as an upscale topless alcohol club, your clubowner may have simply decided to ...
- avoid spending the significant money required to renew the liquor license
- attempt to change your club's business model to appeal to a different set of customers via full nudity and heavy 'extras'.
After all, the threat of enforcement via the state liquor authority disappears when the liquor license is surrendered. Thus the only remaining enforcement authority now falls to local / state cops ... who may or may not have any interest, and typically won't really take enforcement action short of a public outcry regarding blatant acts of prostitution.
However, because of the 'transition', there will be a short time window where the competing club, where bible thumping local residents etc. could force LE attention in hopes of closing this club down. As such, both 'extras' dancers and 'clean' dancers may run an increased risk of a ( bogus ) bust for the next few weeks.
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
I worked in a club where that happened. The owners had fired our manager over some sort of personal thing. The manager was in charge of doing all the paper work and had been for years. When she left, the paper work wasn't done. They closed for 9 months. When they re-opened, some re-modeling happened and the vibe was different. But they never went full nude. Way too many nude clubs in my area. CA is not a BYOB state either.
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
I talked to him last night over the phone to see if I could get any more details and this is what I got:
He renewed but there's a time period between when our previous license stopped and when the new one will begin and I'm guessing the time difference is a span of weeks.
He also said that while liquor would be allowed, beer wouldn't be? Which will cut our client base in half IMO, everyone out here drinks Budlight and Miller.
I'm going to try it out for a week or so and see if anything happens but tbh, I think I might just travel up to OK or down to central Texas if things go south.
I never thought about it from that perspective Melonie, thank you for pointing out what you did.
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
GOOD NEWS: found out the BYOB transition is only going to be for two weeks, three weeks tops. Then we will be back to selling alcohol again. whew
Re: My club just lost it's liquor license
Even though problem is solved I just wanted to add that one of the clubs in my city lost its liquor license and turned 18 & up and nude for a few months and then shut down completely. My sister used to work there when they had their license and loved it and made good money there (it was by the airport) but once they lost their license I tried it out (I was under 21) and the club was completely dead on a saturday night! It was so nice on the inside and such a great location it sucks that they lost their license & shut down. That's good your club will be getting its license back!
