Taking Diane-35, I feel like I am going crazy
I have never taken birth control pills before, I always have protected sex. I started taking Diane-35 3 weeks ago, I want to start Accutane and to take Accutane, I must use two contraceptive method simultaneously. I had to sign consentment forms stating that I will follow all the instructions (birth-control pill, blood tests and consultations with my doctor every month) since it is a pretty strong medication.
My mood started changing slowly but I feel like I am totally crazy right now!! I did not make the link until recently... I am a little fed up with the industry but I never snapped at customers for little things such as them making boring jokes. I can't even spend 5 minutes talking to a customer without wanting to punch them in the face. I woke up crying at 7 in the morning yesterday because I did not want to go to work. I am feeling depressive and sad for no reasons. My mom asked me if I wanted to eat and I yelled at her. I am always in a bad mood and I have no patience. I freaked out at the guy I am currently in an open relationship with because we're not exclusive and I do not even want to be exclusive with him. I have nauseas every time I take this damn thing. I cannot focus at anything I am doing because I am constantly irritated. On top of that, my periods have always been regular but ever since I started taking Diane-35, I've been having my periods for almost 3 weeks....
Maybe I am starting to get burned out but I have never been so overly emotional before. I am usually calm and patient. I really think it's the pills... Did anybody ever have the same experience? I really am questioning whether I should keep taking Diane-35, and if I should even take Accutane because I've heard the mood swings it causes are even worse. I really don't need that right now, I already live with a mood disorder. :frown:
Re: Taking Diane-35, I feel like I am going crazy
It could be the hormones, esp. since you've been bleeding. It sounds like you're still adjusting to the pills, it can take 3-6 months, but sometimes the mood side effects don't go away : (. I would give it at least 3 months if you can stand it. Once you get used to them you might find that your mood evens out AND that you dont need the Accutane anyway. Not sure what type of acne you have, but Diane is one of the pills used for hormonal acne.
Re: Taking Diane-35, I feel like I am going crazy
3-6 months is a long time!! :( I was thinking of waiting a little before contacting my doctor's office for another appointment... Maybe give it another month to see if my periods go back to normal but I don't know if it's such a good idea. I am afraid of my mood swings getting even worse.
My dermatologist told me birth control pills help with acne, but the problem is that once I stop, it will come back and Accutane is the only treatment that would eliminate my pimples permanently. I have mild but persistent acne since I am 12, I have some ugly scars especially on my back. I have tried all the prescription creams, different type of antibiotics but nothing works over the past few years... When I saw my family doctor for the birth control pills she suggested I take Diane-35 for around 3 months until I get Accutane. My dermatologist wanted me to get a written permission from my psychistrist to take Accutane, the wait for an appointment was a little long so she thought Diane-35 would help me with my acne, however she did mention she would like to put me on a lighter pill once my dermatologist prescribes Accutane to me...
I also feel extremely anxious :(
Re: Taking Diane-35, I feel like I am going crazy
I am having similar experiences. I am 36 and on BC for the first time in my life due to ovarian cysts:-(
I believe the nausea is from not eating enough when you take it. If you bleed while taking the pill I believe you need to take a different one. I went emotionally crazy my first week and had ZERO energy. I am feeling much better now after a couple weeks, but the nausea is killer!! I have to eat with it, like a whole meal! I have been pretty depressed about personal stuff and I really don't want to eat, so that has been the hardest part. I feel so sick if I don't eat when I take it!

I feel you. It is a long time! The bleeding and mood (def. bleeding) might improve sooner than that though. I feel like the acne thing is the last thing to improve in many cases, but so worth it once you get to that point. (I work with women going through this stuff in health care so I'm not just pulling this out of my ass by the way) lol It is true that the acne will often come back in full force once you stop the pills. I never had acne growing up, but after trying to go off the pills I got the worst skin of my life and had to go back on. It was like I am "addicted" to the pills now. I am just going to stay on the pills for now but I will be seeing a dermatologist or endocrinologist if I ever do go off. I will probably have to do accutane because with hormonal acne I feel like the "natural" supplements and eating clean and stuff doesn't work for some people. I refuse to go through that again and get more scars. So yeah if you don't wanna stay on the birth control for an extended period then you might as well try the accutane. The psychiatric side effects do scare me though. Even though the pills can cause depression/anxiety too.

I still get nausea years after being on the same pill. Unfortunately it's not something that goes away in some people, but it can get better after time. I take my pill with dinner. Any later and I will wake up with "morning sickness" and throw up. : (

I always take the pill after I had eaten supper. When I don't eat anything before I take it I don't feel well and have no energy, but when I do take it with my supper, I feel nauseous not too long after and feel like throwing up everything I just ate... It actually happened the first day I took it. I was at work and ate a quick snack, then took the pill. I started feeling unwell and asked to leave early, then on my way home I threw up... The next morning I woke up feeling dizzy... It didn't happen again but sometimes I need to lay down in bed for a little while after I took the pill because I feel so uncomfortable. It's weird :/
At least this morning I am feeling semi-normal and haven't snapped at anybody yet lol. I am rarely sick and usually avoid taking medication, even on the rare occasions when I get a headache I don't take Tylenol or Advil. Everytime I start taking something I get sick....

Yes, I also heard it can take some time before the acne improves (months)... but we still gotta deal with all the side effects early on lol. I would really like to know about your experience if you ever take Accutane! :)
I did not ask my dermatologist about the type of acne I have so I don't know if it's hormonal (maybe that would be a good question to ask at my next appointment) but even eating clean doesn't help me... Sometimes I would eat out the entire week and not have a single pimple then get tons of them when I've been eating home-cooked food, vegetables, and cutting out dessert for the whole month.
Re: Taking Diane-35, I feel like I am going crazy
Girl I feel your pain. I gave up on birth control after A month when I realized I wasn't the same person anymore and on top of that my sex drive was non existent. Not worth it to me.

Oh yeah it took forever after that "withdrawal" issue for me to have nice skin again! It probably took me about 6 months to be completely clear, but that was prob also because I kept trying different pills at first to see if I liked any of them better than the ones I originally quit.
My face is flawless when I am on the pills, so hopefully I won't have to go off of them and try the accutane any time soon, but I'm always worried I might change my mind on kids or something, so at least the accutane is a long term option to consider. The only issue is that I would have to stay on the pills, do the accutane, then try to have kids after the recommended period of time is over (since accutane causes awful birth defects if you take it while pregnant) : (
I seriously think some of us actually get worse skin when eating healthy. I have read about people who have better skin when eating greasy fatty foods. I believe this is true for me kinda. The more I'm meticulous about how I eat (salads salads salads... no dairy... no wheat... hardly any sugar... ) it seems like my skin just doesn't care. But if I eat crappy fast food or cook fatty greasy meals at home then my skin seems to like it and be more clear and glowing. I am convinced that my skin likes grease and fat. My skin breaks out more when it is dry. I think I might be low on certain nutrients when eating too healthy or something.
Re: Taking Diane-35, I feel like I am going crazy
I stopped taking Diane-35 2 days ago, I had 2 tablets left but did not finish them. I was at the library and went berserk for no reasons.... So I called to try to get an appointment with my doctor but she had no availabilities for the next 2 months. My family doctor recently passed away so I am using the medical services offered by the school, not too convenient... So I went to my nearest pharmacy, spoke to a pharmacist about the side effects I've been having. He told me to stop Diane-35 completely and faxed my doctor to change my prescription. He then called me back to tell me she approved and prescribed me a lighter pill called Alesse...
I did not go pick it up yet, I don't know if I want to try a new brand, I am so afraid of getting side effects again... But I've been feeling better now.
Re: Taking Diane-35, I feel like I am going crazy
I had to stop taking birth control pills due to disturbing thoughts & sadness. Lucky for me I have been allright since then. There is an herbal birth control method you might want to look into, it's called salehi (a herb from India.)

I was on the pill for the same thing 3 years ago. My mood changed as well, but instead of going crazy, it made me super chill and killed my mood for sex and I gained nearly 8lbs (on a short, small frame:-(
But to the OP: Pills with hormones will change your mood unfortunately, you just never know how. I would talk to your doc, to see if maybe you can make a change?

This! Diane 35 was good for me the 1st little while, I was on it for 2 years which is now considered a dangerous amount of time to stay on them especially if you have high blood pressure so it won't be a permanent solution anyway. When I started Diane 35 I also had acne, it was very severe, red and painful - looked like boils on my face and turned purple at times it looked like I was punched in the face in multiple spots. It started to work on the acne right away and was completely cleared after 6 mos of use. I would give it a try for 3 mos and see how you feel. I tried several different pills after this brand, but none of them made me feel like my thoughts were my own, and that is a scary feeling to have. If you decide to go off maybe consider an IUD, mirena the patch or now there is a thing you can put in your arm sorry not sure what it's called, these methods seem to fuck with your head and moods less. Keep a record of all your symptoms, a note in your phone, a journal just make sure you have something to reference and write everything down. Mood swings/pain/changes in skin condition/sex drive/suicidal thoughts etc. Good luck!! I hope you feel better soon!!!
Re: Taking Diane-35, I feel like I am going crazy
Hi folks I'm bored and decided to update even though I am not the OP. I am on Monastrin 24 fe. It is a low dose pill. I bled for the first month and felt TERRIBLE. I felt like I was on a boat for a month. My doctor actually told me to take 2 pills per day until the bleeding stopped. I felt like I would do anything to clear the cysts so I did it. The bleeding stopped and so did the nausea. I gained 4-5 pounds (5'1") and I have been the same weight since I was 16! I am 36 now. My appetite is out of control.
The good news: My cysts are gone. I think the pills have helped me with depression. TMI but I usually cry at least once a day because I am so sad that I am not a mother and my sadness has ruined all my relationships for the last 8 years. I am dating someone new now, started about a month after I started with the pill. I am just not as sad. I am not sure if it is the pill or what. But maybe my body *feels* like it is pregnant enough to not get super hormonal about motherhood. I am now scared to go off the pill. I feel like I will ruin this new relationship:-( It also seems like this guy is a BIG fan of the extra weight (I am still really fit), so idk... I am using protection with sex. I do not take the pills with enough regularity for them to even be reliable. I went so many years feeling so against BC...
