Weekend start - nervous newbie
Hi girls,
So I've been thinking about dancing for aaaages. I danced a few months ago but only for a few nights and had to stop because I had to fly back home, and now am dying to get back into it. I got offered a dance position at a nice small club today and I mentioned to her that I wanted to ease into the job by starting on quieter nights, but she was encouraging me to begin on Saturday night. I keep getting overwhelmed with the idea of weekend work at the start, however she made a good point about new girls feeling disheartened when they make no money when they start out in the job.... the last night I worked I made nothing plus got fined and it was so upsetting, so maybe it would be better to start on the weekend? Plus the other club was much, much bigger with a couple of levels with many girls and it was quite overwhelming, on top of how bad my hustle was. This club is smaller with only one pole! So feels less daunting. So I was just wondering if you think it might be okay to start on Saturday night? I'm just super new and overwhelmed by new work, but excited at the same time. Let me know what you think, thanks :)
Re: Weekend start - nervous newbie
I have always preferred to start at the beginning of the wk, when it's slower, & ease myself into the new environment & start learning the new setup b4 the wk end madness hits. That's just me tho, & I have kept that preference even after dancing for a long time. I don't worry much abt the $$ those first couple shifts either. I literally tell myself 'New club, new clientele, new rules -- so no pressure.' Then when the busy wk end starts I feel (generally) much less anxious.
If you want to start on a nite that's got decent $$ potential but not necessarily the accompanying craziness, try starting on a Thursday. Those have often been hit-or-miss nites in most of the places I've worked.
You will already be stressed enough settling in, so just remind yourself to focus on making yourself comfortable during the 'adjustment' period. Maybe you get wicked new-girl $$, maybe not, maybe sm where in the middle. Don't make $$ your ultimate priority the first couple shifts, as you get more comfy w/ the job & the environment the $$ will improve.

Thanks for the tip! Sadly I have class on Wednesday through to Friday so I can really only work on Monday nights and the weekends and they're closed on Sundays.... I know the last time I worked on a Saturday I was pretty overwhelmed, on top of the fact I made crap money. Maybe I might start on Monday night and then do a weekend shift :) Settling in to it sounds like a better idea though, at least at the start.

Sm girls'can jump right into the deep end & do well; I own the fact that I am not one of them  start on the Monday shift, get acclimated & then try the wk end when you are ready for it. Forget doing anything in this business just bc sm1 else tells you it's a good idea -- kinda like life in general. Good luck!

Very good point. Thank you :)

Well, you could compromise by going in early on Saturday. So, instead of coming in right when it's starting to get busy, go in for the late afternoon/early evening when it's quieter. Then, you can get used to the environment and set up, slowly interact with customers as they meander in, and then you'll be ready for the late night rush.

I ended up working on a Monday night instead and I think that was a good decision for me. Suuuuper slow so money was terrible, but that's what I was expecting so I wasn't so disappointed. It was still a nice intro to the job and I loved it anyway, nice vibe and nice girls. I'll be going in Friday night for my next shift, which does make me nervous but after working three shifts in my life I should be okay hopefully!
