i've heard/read/been told it's better to do it after when your muscles are nice and warmed up and that it's too much of a 'surprise' to your muscles if you stretch before
I only stretch after also, because same as above. Especially after doing hot yoga I just get worried I will tear something if I stretch cold.

Normally I will do a short, light cardio warmup, then sm easy stretches, then back to the cardio & stretch more thoroughly after. I notice my sorest/most dmg'd areas seem to like that a lot more than opening w/ cold stretching. Maybe it is a side effect of age tho, bc I used to open w/ stretching 10-15yrs ago & nvr had a problem.
If I am at work I will stretch a bit b4 my first stage set & work stretches (both floor & pole) into my stage shows throughout the shift.
Think of your muscle as a rubber band, if you stretch it out is it stronger? No stretch after you use the muscle to help with repair.
After. I do HIIT as a warm-up.
After to avoid injury and benefit more from the stretch since I can get deeper into it once I'm really warmed up.
I do both before & after, but then I more yoga than anything atm.
Always at least light cardio, if I'm doing contortion stretching. Light cardio before yoga too. I may do some light stretching before a workout: head rolls, shoulder rolls, bending and hanging, very light stuff.
