Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your business
I was browsing through pole studios in the New England area and I stumbled upon one in Hartford Connecticut. I looked at the website and considered taking some classes once I got up to the area until I read through the reviews and came across this and just wanted to share because wow.......seriously???
Here is a review for the studio.......
Me and a friend WERE going to purchase a 6mos membership. The unprofessional PRIC who gave me horrible attitude about charging us fo a 30 dollar intro class when i called in to reschedule for the next day made me go elsewhere. I will take the extra 30 min to drive to take the pole classes in worcester while we go work out there since we are dancers. They lost potential members due to HIS attitude problem. DUDE its a business be professional no matter the circumstance Esp to those willing to pay 600 a piece driving from westfield MA plus Intro classes should be free to women who want to purchase memberships.
Response from the owner4 years ago
unfortunately we are not a stripper college. Women who have this misconception about us will not respect our rules, regulation and policies. We have members that travel from all over the New England area and find a way make it to class on time. Strippers who work all night long grinding laps will have a hard time making it to a 2pm class. Alcohol impairs judgement. When we get a phone call 10 minutes before a scheduled class, with a drunken stripper claiming she is too hung over to make it to class. It's a lack of respect for our instructor and other students. You will be charged for the time and space you lack respect for. This is a business for empowering women through alternative fitness not for embracing the career choices of the lazy masses. Sorry Ladies HollyWould will not sell her soul for a dollar. Good luck in Westfeild.
Wow......after I saw this I would never go within fifty feet of this guy's studio. That's just awful to say to somebody, even if they did give you a bad review, which is obviously for a good reason because that confirms the fact that the guy is a total fucking prick making it clear that he doesn't want strippers taking classes at his studio. I don't understand this attitude. Money is money. Business is business. No matter who it comes from. Not to mention all those stereotypes he's ignorantly spouting out are ridiculous. I took several classes at an NYC studio EARLIER than 2 PM the day after I worked and showed up on time NOT drunk from the night before lol, and what does his instructor "Hollywood" not being a stripper have to do with anything this girl said in her review??? What an asshole!
Has anybody ever gotten an attitude like this from someone working at a pole studio before? I've heard about it before but never experienced it myself. I guess I'm glad I never bothered to tell anyone at any studio I've gone to that I'm a dancer. I'd want to punch somebody for this! Even if I wasn't an exotic dancer a response this nasty would turn me off from this business.

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
I took some classes from a pole studio and sensed that I should keep my career to myself. Most pole studios don't want to be associated with women who pioneered the sport.

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
That's exactly why I made it a point to not mention it during classes. I never understood that mentality. Everyone's there because they love pole dance and because they want to learn new tricks. Why should it matter what they do for a living?

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
I didn't advertise my job when I took the occasional pole class but if asked, I was honest. I always thought, Fk em if they're so sanctimonious that they think they're sm how better than the women who developed 'their' sport. That said, I nvr got a sideways look or comment from an instructor, it was the fellow students that would get catty. I guess I lucked out that the instructors I encountered understood that, yes, $$ is $$ regardless of whether it comes from a housewife or a stripper.

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
The funny thing is I don't think they realize how many of the "big time competitors" that all those snobs look up to used to be dancers. That's how a lot of people are introduced to the pole which is why I think that's such a stupid mentality to have.

Right? I had to read that multiple times to make sure I was reading it right. I want to write them a shitty review just for that comment alone!
He's screwing himself and his business by saying things like that to people who were going to be paying customers.

Just a thought -- if I read the OP correctly, that owner's comment, as nasty & uncalled for as it was, is from several yrs ago, right? A lot can change in four yrs. Is it possible that he has either been made to see the error of his judgments or is no longer even there? I would consider giving the place a chance if it is under different mgmt than that POS.

I thought about that too and was hoping things have changed, but apparently that guy is the owner so he's not going anywhere :( I also saw reviews from a week ago saying he was really rude and nasty so sadly it looks like it's the same. He just didn't respond to that review.

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
Yep! The review I saw was on google reviews
https://www.google.com/#q=pole+contr...rdford&lrd=lrd
and yelp
http://www.yelp.com/biz/pole-control-studios-hartford
while they have some good reviews too, they have plenty of negative ones too that say the same thing....and that owner response was enough for me. You want to disrespect my line of work? You're not getting a penny of my hard earned money!

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
It's kind of funny when owners go on Yelp to "strike back" at reviews and end up making themselves look like assholes... there is a coffee place here I refuse to patronize because someone left a 2 star review and the owner went on there telling the reviewer that they obviously "know nothing about coffee" and to "come back when they have some education".
And on the directly pole dancing related note... I have also seen this kind of attitude around here. I worked a wedding expo and the booth next to me was a pole studio; the girls would get super uncomfortable whenever anyone made jokes about real strippers; "Oh no we don't do THAT kind of thing". But you'll sure sponge off it to make a business, eh?

:rotfl: Priceless! Did you actually say that? :listen:

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
^ I was just amused the whole time at the sheer coincidence of the "real-life stripper" being put next to the pole studio... I wanted to say something but I think the notion of taking their pole dancing anywhere outside of their studio/the bedroom would have knocked the poor girls over.

Wow. That business sounds like a joke. That dude is not smart at all. He is shooting himself in the foot. That is like owning a liquor store while talking shit about people who get drunk. LOL. Like, dude, you are firing shots at your customer base!!! Holy shitballs on toast!

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
Seriously, what the actual fuck?
Does people realize how hypocritical that mindset is???
Yeah, I wanna pole dance, but gosh, I'm not a... *whispers* stripper!!!
Bitch, you only wish you had the tits to do this job.

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
I wrote a thread in "the lounge" about the snobbish attitude non stripper pole dancers have.
-
Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
It really boggles the mind how snobby non-stripper pole dancers can be. I just don't understand that mindset at all. Like, why on earth would you gravitate towards a sport pioneered by, developed for, and still strongly associated with strippers if you did not want to be associated with strippers??? Go take a fucking knitting class if you're gonna turn your nose up at strippers like that. It just doesn't make sense.
I know it's a tired comeback, but in cases like this I do think it's true. Bitches are fucking jealous. The women, they wish they had the balls (or the boobs, like NightGoddess said) to do this job. And the men, they hate it that women can make better money than them just cause we know how to work our tits and ass to wring the cash out fools' wallets everywhere.

At least we get paid for it!

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
Yes, I've seen this before. When I first started dancing I learned all my pole tricks from other dancers or just from watching their routines, so I have a lot of skills but didn't know the 'terminology' of them. I went to a pole dancing with a friend and the instructor kept asking me how long I danced and where and I was just honest-- she was so rude and snippy to me and took every opportunity to criticize and pull me apart.
I was looking for a pole studio to join near where I live, and on the studio's introductory page they specifically state they are involved in the 'art of pole dancing' and nothing 'torrid' or 'sexual' is happening at their studio as it is a 'high class' place.. your sport is stolen from strippers, have some gratitude for what we do and don't put us down.

Re: Well, this is a REALLY good way to get people to not want to patronize your busin
All he needed to say was "if a student wishes to cancel they must give x hours notice so another student can take their place since space is limited, otherwise they will still be charged for the class". All these pole studios being snobby about dancers.... give your heads a wobble lol.
I'm dying for a studio to take classes and hopefully spend a lot of time practising/making routines. A friend is amazing after months because she trained nearly every day. I've no space for one at home!
