Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
http://i60.tinypic.com/xbae0w.jpg
So I'm confused...I have a hot body. Men tell me that all the time. I went to a club to audition last night. This is my second time. The first time I auditioned at a full nude club about 3 years ago and I got hired on the spot. Last night I went to a club and the guy told me I had no experience. I was looking around and the girls there had like stick figure bodies. I am a 28 yr old black woman....not saying white women do not have curves because I know plenty that do!! But....I am by no means fat. I am 5'7 137 lbs. Should I give up or try another club?:-\ Anyone else fail their first audition at a club?

Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
The sad reality of this industry is that there are often quotas for black girls, and management won't have more than x amount on their roster or on each shift. If you auditioned at such a club, they're likely pickier with black girls than they are with white girls simply because they limit how many black girls can work for them at a time. Most clubs are fine with hiring newbies and just keep them on day/slow shifts at first while they get used to dancing, so I would definitely try another club.
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
At one club they wanted experience so I lied. They never checked (well, I mentioned a defunct club)and use it often to eliminate dancers. Sadly, many clubs are racist. When I danced there was this one club that was very upscale (I only danced mid-level clubs generally)that had a quota. They only hired 1-2 black dancers total and they had to be absolute 10's. They also had to look upscale and that included the hair (no afros, corn rows or anything that could be considered black). They assumed (rightly or wrongly)that most of their customers didn't like black girls. Meanwhile, white girls (especially blondes)could get away with more.
Btw, you mentioned all the girls were very thin. That could be why you didn't get hired. I often got rejected for that myself. At one time I slimmed down to 110 pounds and they still wanted me to be thinner!
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
Thank you all. Yeah it totally makes sense now. I had more 'booty' then those ladies. I will be trying another place next week. First I am gonna try to go check it out with a friend to see how the girls look-- if they look like me than I'll audition.
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
it sucks, but a lot of club managers are very racist..a lot of them. as shanna said, they have quotas and if you are a black girl they expect you to be the best of the best and hold you to a much higher standard. although your body is friggn banging, so i don't think it has anything to do with how your body looks unless they want some pro-anna bullshit. how was your hair, nails, and outfit?

This was my hair and nails.
My outfit was a cute two piece.
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
I was just about to mention the black girl quota Shanna said. There is nothing wrong with your look, it could have been that particular club you auditioned at don't want to hire anymore black girls and said "a lack of experience" is the reason. I've seen this happen enough and perfectly capable and attractive dancers get turned down because they were black. Go try another club.
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
I found a club close by that has alot of black girls and most of their clientale is black so I will try there this week.
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
You look great hun! You'd do great where I live.
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?

Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
if its stage based then yes experience matters. lie, go to another club, and practice. if youre in a big city there are probably twerking classes you can take.
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
Hi, I understand you very well, I have no experience, one month ago they hired me for the first time at windmill, the first night was a good night, the second and the third was were 0. So they told me to call back in one month because there are no too many clients. So I call up, and was just an excuse, .. they told me to call in another month. The first night the owner run after me asking to open my bag shouting 'were are the money', I didn't have extra money a part those I declared, it was not a nice experience. Plus I was keep on saying I work well the first night thanks to him (?) So.. I try in an up scaled clubs such secrets, stringfellows, but nothing. Secrets looks very professional and they told me what's wrong, I was terrify on the stage.. which is true, I am shy in fact, but the second they didn't give me explanation, they said just too many girl similar to my body type. I know they are very picky tho. Not sure what's wrong, can't move on in this industry. Any one as any advice please??
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
All you have to do is put on makeup, have flawless hair and nails, and be confident! I'm a black dancer at an upscale club in New Orleans. I started out at a small club and later moved to the club that I'm currently working in. I went in with confidence and walked out with a job. We only have 4 black girls employed at my club out of maybe 100 girls. I don't think it's racist, I think its just business . I work in a predominantly white club, so it's to be expected that we have less Blacks, Indians, Asians, etc... We face many barriers as black women... Never let anything bring you down, be resilient! If you would like to work at a nice club, go for it!!! Never settle, especially with dancing. You are dancing to get the most out of it, so don't limit yourself!
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
Everything that has been said in this thread is 100% the truth. I have heard it from the managers... direct instruction from club owners. You have a hot body, yes, but you are also a pretty girl. Try not to take it personally and find a place to work, I am positive you will do well. Try the most upscale clubs first.
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
Thanks Apryl, for your tips. An encouragement. I am not a black girl, but I work in London as European, where there are 80% of east European girls giving extra. Plus I am no that young anymore even if look younger than my age and my mind thinks at times 'What I am doing here??'. I am very broken that's why I am trying this industry and in the end I believe is a clever choose to work as dancer, of course with all the care needed. Last week I went in an other club and I been honest telling them I have no experience, so they stop the interview and they showed me another club where the expectation is lower. Ugh. They been nice telling me to work there for 6 months while I will learn something and come back to them after. So I went there, the bouncer took me around the club and we where laughing about my lack of experience. So I will try again tonight. Crossing my fingers.. I get very stiff when I thing about performing naked and my face can't smile.. I have a very serious look in short.. ugh.. So doesn't look like I am dancing.. rather like I am turning around a pole.. Well hope to come back with a shift for next days and hopefully a job where people are nice and understanding regarding newbies .. Cmiller did you find a place to start with? Many thanks girls for what wrote in here.
Re: Failed an audition - How many started with no experience?
Hi cmiller, I have a good news. Today I went at the audition at the club. He asked my if I have experience and of course I said yes, so he wanted to know the name of the place in my original country and I start to become red.. so I told him: 'I have no experience in dancing, but if I would say the truth I will never gain it!' .. So I did the audition, he stopped me because it was pitiful. .. I went with him, I showed my body and he told me: Ok I give you one week of time to learn how to dance. And will go back tomorrow evening. So now I have a shift and I hope to keep it. And do something to learn how to dance in the meanwhile. I writing this just to share that in the end if you are true and bit ironic about your unskillfulness you may find someone that gives you a chance like at me. Did you try near black areas where you may fell more at ease? This club is not a great one, but is a place to start with and they look nice. One month ago as I wrote above I had another chance to try, but went wrong, not sure why. So I need to be careful in order to really learn something in these days, even because how can I pay the house fees otherwise?? Hope you doing well and moving on in this industry. G.
