Re: Trouble gaining weight
I've seen your pics. You look good. If you're that self conscious eat whole grains and start lifting weights.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
Thank you I'm not self conscious it just frustrates me that I can never get past 135 lbs. I think I look good too but would look even better with 10 more lbs of meat on my bones lol. I do lift weights (mostly lower body) but I don't consistently so maybe that will help. I also eat whatever I want which probably includes whole grains so not too sure that would make a difference.
I went through a phase a year or two ago where I was just really skinny like I even lost muscle and it might have been from only doing cardio. So now the only cardio I do is the stair master and max is like 15 mins. A girl I follow on instagram who has a really nice body and is my height just incline walks on the treadmill at a low speed for cardio and that keeps her "thickness" so maybe I'll try that too.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
Ensure should work…I know a few people who have used it to gain weight. :)
Re: Trouble gaining weight
My ex was the same way, genetically gifted in most people’s eyes. She went through a bout of depression & reached out to me for help because she was losing weight & on her frame it didn’t look well. At any health food store or Vitamin shop they carry weight gainer which is 1500+ calories per shake. It didn't take much to get back to where she was & she's in the industry.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
I don't understand why you want to gain weight if you are 135 lbs? Not being snarky at all, are you over 5 10"?
Re: Trouble gaining weight
I'm shocked you didn't put on weight during your recovery. (Besides the obvious!) I put on plenty of blubber during mine, but you probably made better choices.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
ha, get on remeron..you'll gain that in about a week. i was never able to gain weight, ever, and now i'm..well i'm not going to even post my weight. they give it to anorexic or underweight people , its also a good sleep med and anti anxiety.
other than that, i would try something different than ensure because i used to LOVE those things but then i read the ingredients. not good if you are trying to stay away from loads of high fructose corn syrup and all sorts of other shit that's bad for your body. chow down on whole milk dairy, grilled chicken, avocado, nuts, bananas, oatmeal, etc.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
i give up on gaining weight... im 30,w 2 kids.... after all these yrs cant get past 107...then couple wks ago made it up to 110....only a few days after weighing myself i was back down to 108 :(.. im like a baby i eat every couple hrs smh

Different body types come with different bone structures, different metabolism, and different shapes. OP might be 135 but she might be all bones and no meat.. She might be around 5'7". When I was in middle school, I was 5'7 and I looked like those "pro Ana/Mia" supporters at 135.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
Drink ensure, they also have bars you can eat, or any kind of protein shake. I had to put on 35 lbs 6 years ago and that was how I did it.
I am also jealous however that you did not gain weight during your recovery! I'm still struggling.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
I've read that eating a lot of bananas can help boost your wgt gain, nvr tried it tho.
Try higher protein & increasing your weight training.

My metabolism is just crazy I guess because i literally was just watching tv in bed eating whatever junk food and fast food I wanted! I literally cannot gain weight it's so frustrating

I'm 5'8" and technically I'm at a healthy weight but I have a naturally athletic body type so I like how I look when I have more muscle in my legs and a bigger butt. When I get too skinny those seem to go down first and it can make me feel self conscious sometimes. I always have a flat stomach so I'm not too worried about getting belly fat.
Simone is that a medication you get prescribed? I'm not sure if I need to get that extreme haha but sounds interesting.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
What simone said. I have a hard time gaining weight too, not only gaining it but keeping it on. Eat constantly. It is work I know but you will get there. And eat a meal before bed, oatmeal is good because it gets digested slowly. You kind of need to train yourself/your stomach not to feel full until you eat a certain amount. I need to eat about 2100 cals when all I really WANT to eat is 800. Figure out how much you need just to survive and then add in more depending on how many calories you burn on the average day. Chewing can feel like effort lol
Re: Trouble gaining weight
I have 3 kids and it's hard for me to stay above 110. I am currently working out and drinking a protein shake twice a day, hoping to gain another 10 pounds.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
I can relate to you completely. I'm naturally skinny but luckily i know the secret to gaining at least 4 pounds per week. So my advice to you is this
Eat 3 meals per day and drink a pediasure after each meal. 3 pediasures have the equivalent of 720 calories and it's also filled with nutrients and fat. I find this to make me nauseous at times but it's the only thing that works. Unfortunately there are no miracle pills or easy ways to gain weight but to consume calories.

yes it is, but its a very cheap prescription. you can also get an appetite stimulant
Re: Trouble gaining weight
I'm in the same boat, high metabolism, trouble keeping it on. I recently got weighed at my docs office: 101 in clothes and shoes!! I've been doing natural whey shakes mixed with a banana, soy or coconut milk and cinnamon. I just started upping how many I do last week. I've put on 1 1/2 lbs.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
Ensure/ Sustagen/ Protein shakes. Make sure you're getting lots of protein and good fats. Work on building muscle. I've never seen a girl with a 6-pack and buff arms look anorexic, but have seen very thin but not toned girls with twig arms and protruding ribs. Muscle will also will push out what fat you do have.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
Thank you for the tips! I think I'll get a jumbo pack of ensures this week they seem like the easiest solution lol

Meat = muscle. Lift weight, lift heavy weights. Many people, especially woman, who want to add some meat to their bod (vs fat) and or shape an area (such as their booty, etc) simply don't lift weight heavy enough to cause a response to it. Adequate calories and protein + resistance training done correctly for the goal, minimum aerobics, will = nice "thickness."
Do you have a pic of a body you're shooting for that's similar to your body type/shape?

Ensure and protein drink shouldn't be in the same sentence. Ensure and similar are garbage and more sugar than protein. For example, the label:
"Water, Corn Maltodextrin, Sugar, Milk Protein Concentrate, Soy Oil, Soy Protein Isolate, Sucromalt, Cocoa Powder (Processed with Alkali), Canola Oil."
Ensure and the ilk, you're paying for water, table sugar, cheap low quality protein, and crappy oils. Best is always to buy a quality protein powder, and make your own using healthy quality engredients, such as frozen fruit, vegis, flax oil, coconut oil, etc.
If one has to use pre made stuff, far better quality is had via something like Labrada Lean Body shakes.

Simone, is there an OTC appetite stimulant you can recommend? I didn't even know these things existed! I'm almost never hungry so this would be a life changer for me.
Re: Trouble gaining weight
This might be a controversial statement, but if I were you, I'd avoid protein shakes. Protein is very hard on the kidneys, and excess protein merely gets converted to fat (even highly active people only need 1 gram of protein for every kilogram of weight every day - consuming more than this does nothing to increase muscle mass). So if I were you, I'd simply start eating higher-fat foods.
For simple weight gain, I would start adding more healthy oils to foods. Olive oil could be a good option, and perhaps coconut oil / coconut milk (research the debate on coconut's saturated fat content before consuming huge amounts). Olive oil can be added to pretty much anything.
But honestly, 135 sounds like a healthy weight to me. And it sounds like that's your body's ideal weight from a genetic standpoint. I mean if you're eating healthily and exercising, and you're naturally lean, then why push your body beyond its limits?
