Re: Getting myself ready...
I would not wear the dress because if may be hard to take off and put baxk on . Also I would try pleasers on in the store first just so you know your size for sure. Also garters are cool but you'll need rubber bands and it is some what time consuming to put the money on it. I use a money bag. It's like a stretchy pouch with a wrist band so it hangs on your wrist and doesn't really get in the way but at the same time it can stretch.
Re: Getting myself ready...
I would go w/ the garter bc once your $$ is secured w/ the rubber band(s), there's no way sm1 will be able to snatch it w/o you noticing. I also use a small drawstring purse while on the floor but NVR keep large bills/amts in it just in case I drop it/misplace it or sm1 ninjas it while my back is turned.
Get sm nice thick gel inserts for those shoes -- w/ that heel-to-platform hgt ratio you're looking at a 4.25" heel w/ a pretty small platform that will probably not give the best support. I would keep my eyes open for a shoe w/ a thicker platform bc that extra support is crucial to your comfort during a long shift.
The dress looks very nice, & as long as it's not too stretchy-tight it shouldn't be too hard to get in&out of. I loved that sparkly silver one on the same page too, I'd get that just to sew in an opaque under-layer once I retire for good :)
Re: Getting myself ready...
I prefer to use a money bag because I tend to get lots of singles and walking around with hundreds of dollars in ones is not only inconvenient but also kind of a show-off move. At least in my opinion. Also I can keep lipstick, hair ties, etc on hand.
Re: Getting myself ready...
Clear heels, go with everything (you can buy more outfits as you dance) and they also make legs look longer. Do a search on money storage, there are some good ideas littered throughout SW.
Re: Getting myself ready...
Definitely recommend a bag rather than a garter, if your club allows a bag. I just use a clutch and its a ton more convienent than having to spend that extra time putting money away in a garter.
Re: Getting myself ready...
Clutch with wriststrap with several zipper sections, Money in the same section everytime;you could transfer to a padlocked bag or locker as money acrues but don't do it when anyone is around you, I have had money stolen only when others saw me transfer it, only then. Keep some babywipes, breathmints, lippie, perfume, pen in other section.
By the way, use combination number padlocks, in case you ever lose the key to your locker/bag.

Thanks! I am going to look for a better heel-to-platform ratio. I also love that sparkly dress. I might go with that one to avoid getting tangled in my straps and making a fool of myself.
And thanks everyone for your advice on money bags. I'll see what I can find.
Re: Getting myself ready...
^ Ive seen that sparkly dress and nearly ordered it too but another girl turned up in one and it is nowhere near as nice in RL.
Re: Getting myself ready...
Just popping in to mention that these are (by far) the easiest-to-walk-in stripper heels I've ever worn: http://snaz75.com/el-656-march.html
They're the kind of shoe that will break after a few months, but they're amazing for newbies. And fairly cheap!
Re: Getting myself ready...
Honestly, if you are just auditioning then I wouldn't spend that much money. Go to Ross or something like that and you can just pick up a cheap bra/panty set and some civilian heels which are fine for the time being. If you don't regularly wear heels then I don't think you should just jump into a pair of 6" ones off the bat. I'd go cheaply at Ross and be sure to pick up some decent makeup until you make some money then invest in nicer things. What if you get up there and hate it? Then you just spent $55 on a pair of shoes that you'll likely never use again. Just my $0.02 though. Good luck!
Re: Getting myself ready...
Please do not get civilian heels, even for audition. They don't look right and trust me they are so uncomfortable. My civilian heels would kill my feet and pinch my nerves to wear I couldn't feel my toes the next day (wore them as a bartender and going out)My pleasers are amazing. My feet literally never hurt (unless it's from the plastic pressing into my toe), it really doesn't feel like your wearing heels. Also, it's easier to move around due to the support and they're made for long support and dancing. The heel is also reinforced.
Re: Getting myself ready...
Thanks everyone for your replies! I am definitely going to get some stripper heels. I think walking in there with bona fide stripper heels on my feet will help me be more confident, and maybe I'll look a little less amateur-ish to the hiring manager. And even if I hate it, I intend to make at least more than the cost of my shoes.
I'm still shopping for a cheapish set of heels with a good heel-to-pf ratio that I like...

Seriously...the easiest shoes I've found to walk in balance-wise are the ones I posted above. The last thing you want to be thinking about when you're just starting out is whether you're going to fall over or not! They might not be the most glamorous shoes, but they're fantastic for newbs. And the slope on the shoe couldn't be more gentle.

Re: Getting myself ready...
Haha, yeah it's the "not the most glamorous" part that is holding me back. But I will keep them in mind (especially cause every other shoe is out of stock on yandy), and I appreciate your advice :)

I could walk around in them, but only while feeling extremely uncomfortable and unbalanced (example: http://snaz75.com/pl-adore-702uv.html) and (http://www.snaz75.com/pl-candy-40.html). Shorter heels (6") tend to have chunkier heels but steeper slopes, and higher heels (7"+) tend to have gentler slopes but only come with spike heels.
I'm not sure if this is a height / weight thing or what! It seems to me that slender, shorter women are the ones who can trot around in 8"+ spike heels all night long with no issues. I'm 5'7", weigh 140 lbs (I look 120 lbs), and I have pretty good balance...but trying to actually dance on a slick stage with your adrenaline pumping, bend down to take tips and stand back up, walk across the room confidently, etc. while wearing something that makes you feel like you're standing on your tippy toes...doesn't feel great. I've never fallen, but it takes a good amount of concentration for me to make it work.
Honestly, the best bet is to try shoes on in a store if there are any near you that sell stripper shoes. Try them on and go through some of the movements you'd go through in a club environment to test them out (walk on a slick floor, squat down as if to take a tip and stand up gracefully, etc.). But if you're buying blindly, and you're new or haven't danced in a while, I'd stick to a conservative pair like the ones I posted above. A bad pair of shoes can totally kill your confidence on stage, hustling on the floor, and doing dances. A bad pair of shoes (a pair that doesn't make you feel confident) can even intimidate you out of auditioning!
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only dancer who will openly admit to not being able to handle the hardcore shoes (everyone on here makes Pleasers sound like they're ballet flats)... Ha!
Re: Getting myself ready...
Sorry for such a long post! I'm obsessed with stripper shoes since wearing the right pair can make SUCH a difference in how you feel while working!

Re: Getting myself ready...
Attachment 39605 maybe wedge heels? i really hate the straps that some shoes have, i don't find them easier to dance in at all and they aren't the best looking..stripper heels are supposed to make your legs look long, slender and graceful and i feel like the strap not only pinches but it makes legs look stocky by basically cutting them off at the ankle..and when it breaks ( which will probably be the first thing to break) the shoe is trash. but i definitely agree with maybe shorter more sturdy heels for starting out

I think it is just a simple wgt/bal matter. Yes, that's the pilot in me talking, but really, an individual's centre of gravity can make a huge difference in how high of a heel they can manage. Me, I am 5'5 & have nvr topped 120lbs while dancing. I can topple abt in 7" but like you said, the balance is very uncertain. The drag queens we see who are in excess of 6' w/o heels -- guys have a naturally lower centre of gravity than women, so they can often manage 7"+ more easily, along w/ shorter women, whose wgt is more in proportion w/ the added hgt than an already-taller woman.
Also agree w/ you that the problem is often not so much the shoe hgt but the slope & the heel thickness!
OP, don't let the 'lack of glamour' factor put you off from a conservative pair like the one Charlie linked. Better to maintain the understated elegance of being able to keep your balance in a conservative pair of heels, than be stumbling around, risking :fight: from falls in a fancy but cumbersome pair :)

No, it's Much appreciated, as w/all your posts, Charlie!
I was interested in the pr I posted the pic of above, b/c they're on sale..they won't really let u try 'em on..the stores in my area that stock dancer shoes don't have a lot, & what they have doesn't fit/interest me
But, I agree..it's so important to have comfort/stability, esp. as we're constantly on feet/doing gyrations, etc. :)

Well said!
And whoa thanks for the excellent discussion of practicality in stripper shoes everyone :) You've all convinced me that I should try some on in person because there are just lots of variables here.
Re: Getting myself ready...
I got myself ready. I ended up buying some knee high boots with a chunky heel and gentle slope, btw.
Last night, as I was getting ready to visit the club and ask for an audition, my roommate and best friend tells me he told his girlfriend my intentions (without talking to me...), and she is disgusted with me. Apparently this was the basis of an argument that kept them up late the night before, and he implied that she wouldn't be coming over to our place anymore because of it. We have always gotten along great, and I hand made her several beautiful Christmas gifts this year. It hurts, but frankly it switched on some stubborn determination in me. I'm glad for the insight into her character... I'm sure she feels the same.
So, I set off for the club, driving stick solo for the first time, a feat of courage in itself. I sat in the parking lot for about twenty minutes, then I thought about something I heard earlier in the day—a Russian psychotherapist on a radio podcast I listen to said "fear rules the world." I mustered up my stubbornness and thought fuck that, not me. So I walked in.
I was so nervous, I turned to the first person I saw and asked if he was the door guy. He looks disdainful and says "no, he's the door guy" pointing to the bouncer who was right next to me at his little counter. Bouncer laughs and smiles and is nice. He gives me an application, which I fill out while watching the dancers on stage. They weren't even dancing, just swaying really slowly and leaning on the poles. Lots of girls, not many customers. He takes me to the house mom who is very kind and explains that they need to take a topless photo to show the managers, who will decide whether to call me for an audition. That was a deal breaker for me... I just don't trust the club to keep those photos safe and private. I don't even trust myself to keep nudies of myself private on account of all the horny hackers out there.
Despite that disappointment, I am really proud of myself for driving to the club alone and being ready to get on stage. I'm planning on checking out a lower tier club in the area tonight or next week. Update to come.
Re: Getting myself ready...
Yay, good for you! Great inspirational quote too!
