Well, if only their American counterparts (Anonymous) would some something like this...
Actually, in the long run, this really doesn't help Greek electricity customers / citizens ... because the electric utility is 100% government owned. Thus the loss of electric revenues further deprives the Greek gov't of funds with which to pay back their EU loans, import necessary commodities which aren't domestically produced within Greece, etc. With the Greek gov't already in a position of having too little funds to pay teachers ( see ), it remains to be seen how this potential $670 BILLION US Dollar equivalent 'loss' to the Greek gov't will wind up 'trickling down'. It also appears somewhat likely that Greece is headed for the 'dark ages' ... in more ways than one !!!
Of course, with a handful of exceptions, US electric utilities are privately owned ... thus any such hack job would basically affect current utility company stockholders and bondholders, as well as future US utility rate payers !!! For this reason, as well as 'hardening' against potential terrorist actions, US privately owned utility companies have invested heavily in cyber-security measures that make them a much 'tougher' target than the Greek gov't's electric company.
This is destruction of property. Why would anyone cheer about that?
The story I saw said it was the Turkish utility company that was attacked. Why the distraction of Greece?
^^^ you're correct it is Turkey not Greece. Also it appears that the early cheers by Turks who owed the state electric company huge amounts in unpaid utility bills have been brought to an abrupt end.

The story I saw said it was the Turkish utility company that was attacked. Why the discission of Greece?
^^^ as to why anybody would cheer about the 'destruction of property', that answer is extremely political ( as were the Turkish hacker group ). In that regard, Greece and Turkey now have much in common ... which was the reason for my original confusion. However, the reason I first posted about this development was the 'new direction' being taken by the hackers.
Actually, there's what's known as "White hat" hackers who spend their time helping companies, etc. They tend to keep low profile, but they are out there.
Anonymous has done some great work in the past.
One example is when they released names, addresses, phone numbers and emails of Westboro Baptist church members who intended to picket the funerals of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting victims.
They also brought a lot of information to light on a case in Ohio where a girl was raped and the town let the perps off the hook because they were football players.
Let's do some research, people, before we spew irrelevant shit out our mouths that confuse people.
Speaking of Anonymous, nice to see them mess with those blithering A holes in the KKK:
