Which LONDON club would accept barefoot dance on stage?
Hi Ladies,
I had my ankle sprained badly a while ago and now need to dance barefoot on stage for a while. Is that unacceptable in London or is that not an issue?
If You think it generally would be a problem in London, which club/pub in there would You try first as the most likely to go with it if You were me?
I appreciate any input to this thread.

I can't think of any club that would be down with this in London, you would have better luck going outside of the city. London is very strict about dress code and the clubs have high standards for there dancer's appearance. There are clubs that won't even allow you to not wear a gown before a certain time or clear stripper shoes. If you were already working at a club they might be OK with you going barefoot for a bit or just taking you off the stage for a while, but I think you're going to have a hard time getting hired.
I would suggest looking at clubs right outside the city or maybe in another part of England.

Thanx for Your reply :)
And how about policewoman or armygirl outfit with black high-heel snickers? Are there clubs/pubs which might be ok with theme costumes?

Re: Which LONDON club would accept barefoot dance on stage?
Spearmint Rhino does theme nights on the weekends, but expects gowns every other night. All the clubs require a gown. You could try the pubs, they don't require gowns but they're gonna want you in shoes.
Re: Which LONDON club would accept barefoot dance on stage?
And in the pub do I need to wear stripper shoes or can I wear sexy pumps with square heel?
Also, are themes in SR set for the particular weekend by the club or is it like You can choose Your own theme as long as it is a costume?
Sorry to bother You, but it is really important to me.
Re: Which LONDON club would accept barefoot dance on stage?
If they allow a chunky(ish)-heeled boot, I would go w/ those over the usual strappy stripper platform. I harp on here plenty as it is abt my love for tall boots since they tend to provide better joint support in general, but if you're trying to work w/ an injury you really need all the support you can get.
Believe me, I sympathise -- when I was younger & doing sports I had multiple sprains to both ankles bc I wouldn't give myself enough 'off time' for it to heal properly. So w/ that said, why not just give yourself a few wks off in order to let it heal right? Soft-tissue injuries take a lot longer to heal than broken bones, & even after healing they can remain 'fussy' for quite a while after. I've had multiple sprains, as I said, but also dislocations & full-on muscle tears, & most of the time these injuries were 'repeats' on areas that I had previously hurt.
If you have a current club there, or one that you previously worked at, why not ring them & explain the situation, then see if they will work w/ you? Maybe they will let you wear different shoes for awhile that are more healing-injury-friendly or let you off of stage altogether?
Re: Which LONDON club would accept barefoot dance on stage?
I think you should call the clubs and ask, no one here will know 100%, or maybe wait until your ankle is better.
Re: Which LONDON club would accept barefoot dance on stage?
Thanx Aniela:)
I was also thinking to dance in boots, lace up preferably, but I cannot find them with chunky heel. Do You know any place in London or some internet shop where I can buy them?
Re: Which LONDON club would accept barefoot dance on stage?
Also, if You are able to dance in stiletto boots in spite of Your earlier injuries, there is a hope for me ;)
Re: Which LONDON club would accept barefoot dance on stage?
Yeah, if your ankle isn't strong enough yet to walk around in the shoes, it's probably best not to dance just yet since you'll be putting a lot of weight/pressure on it while going on stage, walking around, and during dances. Much of your shift is spent on your feet, and it's probably best to let your ankle heal properly rather than potentially mess with it.

I wear chunkier heels when I can, in fact that's one of my personal requirements -- square heel, preferably thigh-high, able to fit two pairs of thigh-high socks on under, & preferably not pvc since it's too much grip on too much area for pole tricks IMO.
When I do have to work in stilettos, I wear stirrup-style legwarmers w/ them to increase stability, always have ankle straps & have to wrap my right knee w/ an ace bandage.
My ankles sufficiently healed & stabilised so they are not so much the problem, it's my knees & hips that cause me trouble anymore. I choose my shoes this way both to aid my balance & to minimise the stress on my body, we need to take our protections where we can find them IMO.
If you're going to do this job long-term, you needNeedNEED to take care of your body. Can't stress this enough. The club certainly won't contribute to your care if you get hurt, so fk em if they can't/won't accommodate you. My body has rebelled so much in the last couple yrs after all the stress I've put it thru, working/playing thru injuries & whatnot -- it now has zero tolerance for any of that nonsense. I'm 28 but probably sound like I'm 80, I know my joints do :D Don't wreck your body bc you went back to dancing too soon after an injury.

I understand You totally :) Also, think physiologist could help You. When I spoke to the physiologist he told me that ankle disfunctions can be caused by knee and hip disfunctions and vice versa. And that there are some exercises/therapies that may be useful to correct those disfunctions. Maybe You could ask the physiologist for an individual advice :)

During treatment+PT for my last knee injury they told me that if I kept going the way I was going it would require surgery. That was several yrs ago. The injury 'hot spots' (shoulder, knee, hip & pectoral muscle) are not really fixable at this point, it's just a matter of maintaining them so I don't need surgery later. But I do that w/ both specific & general exercise, & in my old age finally listening to my body instead of trying to work thru the pain.
