Re: Christers vs. Christians
Re: Christers vs. Christians
I am a devout Catholic and I agree with you. I will be the first to admit I struggle with the issues of abortion and gay marriage in the church because I don't support them but on the other hand I understand why they believe them. However, I love the other parts of being a Christian, such as helping the poor. Now that I am making more money I give more to charities and help them more than before. That is part of being religious. However, I do believe in some morals but I don't consider them religious per se, but rather that they are how we should live as a society.
Re: Christers vs. Christians
I think it is human nature to split off into little "tribes" and drink deep the kool aid of your chosen beliefs. Just about anyone who self identifies as some sort of "[pick-a-word]ist" is sitting around the fire at fanatic camp. Religion is an easy target, especially Christian religions. There are a whole lot of intolerant nuts out there hating and judging people for everything from eating red meat to not being on the correct political extreme end (in their opinion).
One of my personal favorite weird things that comes out of all this is the right wing evangelistic flag waving "Freedom" crowd. What they really want is for your to adopt their beliefs and political opinions, anything else is an attack on their freedom and way of life and endangering America. Talk about hyperbole and not understanding the basic meaning of the word.
