Re: 19-years-old and alcohol
Yeah I'm sure it's illegal to buy alcohol for minors so don't even try to use the club as a covert way to get some liquor.
Customers can still buy you non alcoholic drinks though and if a guy buys himself a drink and not you this to me screams cheap. In this case he may only have money for a dance(s) and not any drinks - so I'd hustle for a dance real quick. Or he may not have money at all in which case id leave real quick.
Re: 19-years-old and alcohol
Yes buying alcohol for minors is illegal, & an excellent way for ABC to try & bust the club. Accept an alcoholic drink from the wrong customer, & the club can lose its liquor licence. The club would also probably not welcome you back nxt shift if they know you're the one who accepted that drink.
As for non-alcoholic drinks, they can buy you as many as you like. I would be careful using any variation of 'Gimme the $$ instead' but that's just me, IME it is more of a turnoff than a success. Run a search on 'drinking alcohol at work' & you will find a lot of creative ways around customers who try to get you to imbibe.
Re: 19-years-old and alcohol
While It is illegal for guys to buy girls drinks most clubs will let you get away with drinking as long as you know your own limitations. Why dont you talk to your bartender about doing fake drinks? Charge $8 for the drink and split it down the middle $4 for you $4 for her. Tell the customer that yeah your younger but this is how you get around it. And give it some different kind of name or just say its (insert dancers name) drink. That way you can play up being drunk and ditzy without them realizing. Most of the time the guys know that its a fake drink but they dont care as long as you go along with it.
Re: 19-years-old and alcohol
The club is in Detroit (MI law states no smoking cigarettes where they serve food) yet every girl in there is having one. Plus some of these guy will be asking for extras/sex before a dance, but won't buy me a drink (& will with their "regular girls"). It's a pretty high extras club/area, so management will turn a blind eye to anything that'll make them money. Hell--my friend who works down the street (at a bigger club than mine) went in and had a drink/was offered a job there at 17.
Like I said, I'm not a drinker anyway. I just find it so odd that in an environment where I'm constantly getting asked for sex and coke, they would be afraid of alcohol laws. Guess I won't try getting cash out of it. :p
Re: 19-years-old and alcohol
Think of it this way. The club doesnt really make money off of the people coming through the door most of their profit is off of the bar. I think its something like 70% of sales is from the bar, and if they loose that liquor license they might as well shut down the club because nobody is going to come to a club when they cant even get a drink ya know?

Yeah some things just don't make sense. And just because other people do something wrong, illegal, or past your moral limits doesn't make it okay or mean you have to do that too
I get approached for all types of sex and drugs and other illegal sh!t but I NEVER partake in any of this foolishness cause these are strangers with THEIR own agenda.
Remember there are people in the club who will use alcohol to 'loosen' you up and possibly take advantage of you. So if you feel the need to indulge in alcohol, though I wouldn't recommend it since youre under 21, it's better to do it on your free time not at work when your goal is to dance, entertain, and make money.

^^ This happened with the dive I was working at (underage girl drank, got into fight, cops were called, TABC notified, lost license, went BYOB), within two weeks our customer base dropped by 50%. Within five months, they were struggling to pay their electric bills. I ended up leaving for the other topless club in town that served alcohol and haven't looked back.

^We've all had the "but, don't you guys get free drinks etc" line-sometimes it's an excuse and sometimes customers actually don't realize that we can have a drink on the job.
If you don't want them to waste money at the bar (this annoys me too), offer to have a drink with them after the dance. Also, I wouldn't disclose my age to them if it makes you uncomfortable. If they offer you a drink and you feel rude refusing it, just pretend that you are driving and ask for a water, juice, soda etc.
Re: 19-years-old and alcohol
How are you working at an alcohol club at 19? Is that normal in other cities? They're really strict about that where I live (CA).
Re: 19-years-old and alcohol
^There are clubs out there that will let minors work, they'd just have to do something like wear a special bracelet so the bartender knows not to serve that girl drinks. But those bracelets don't stop them anyway. I've seen a few minors so far slip in some drinks before being caught by management.
Re: 19-years-old and alcohol
My club goes against laws for almost everything. The only thing they monitor is their income, they don't care how it's made. They'd let me run around drunk giving $10 handjobs as long is it benefits them, && unfortunately it's like that in a lot of Detroit. It's so strange coming on SW where minors can't work the floor, no/one-way contact is common, and customers accept air dances? lol customers get mad if I don't let them touch me when I'm selling the dance, let alone DURING? It may also have to do with the fact that we are required to have a license to dance, so all legal issues are on us. Though, no surprise, they let us start working without one and save up for it.
Re: 19-years-old and alcohol
I started dancing when I was 20 and every single Detroit area club let me drink. Landing Strip, Trumpps, Players, Coliseum, etc. Same for my friends (except Hustlet in Lincoln Park, I was 22 when I worked there but my friend was 20, they didn't let her drink unless she sold a champagne room). No idea about the club I'm at now since I'm 23 and can obviously drink. But every single extras club in Detroit (so pretty much all but 2) allow minors to drink.
