Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
Did you use a facebook picture as one of your profile pictures on the cam site you were broadcasting on? If yes, it is possible the person did a reverse image search through google and found your fb page that way.
In any event, what a terrible thing to have happen. I'd be totally freaked out.

Sounds like a dude trying too hook up for free. Chances are, he doesn't know you and is playing a game. I swear heard and experienced this story a million times. Guy guesses region by your dialect and gives you his personal info to try to meet up for sex. Or Intentionally try to freak out and may try to blackmail you into having sex.
Rule number one on the internet: A LOT OF PEOPLE LIE! DON'T BELIEVE EVERTHING SOMEONE SAYS.
Don't be gullible. Start building your walls up high.
Also most sites autolist your country by your IP address.
Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
Why the fuck do guys even do shit like that...I could play along, find out his address and then get my gang connections to go rob him empty and sodomize him with a vacuum attachment. I mean seriously, these men who do that need to learn a fucking lesson.

Not trying to sound bitchy, but these threads always induce eye rolling in me. I don't understand why anyone would do this job if they are that bothered by others finding out. I know I considered all of that before signing up on my first cam site or uploading my first nude pic. Even though I haven't told many people that I do cam for a living, I wouldn't be bothered if anyone found out. I've had people from school/facebook/social friends find me and know what I do. I try to turn them into customers lol. I don't give a fuck. Even if my family found out I wouldn't sweat it...it's what I do and I'm not ashamed of it, I have NO REASON to be ashamed. If you are ashamed of being a camgirl then don't do it! It doesn't mean you have to put your personal business out there and tell everyone (because frankly it's no one's business) but I'm far from devastated when anyone finds out. And they do find out...
Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!

I believe it's because for some, there are real life ramifications for getting caught working in the adult industry. Whether it be beloved family and friends disowning or crazy exes trying to take custody.
Yeah if we could all somehow magically remove the stigma of adult work then everyone of us could be as open about what we do as we want. I don't think anyone should ever feel ashamed but society is set up in a way where even legal adult work is frowned upon in many cultures/social circles/regions.
But yes those who do work this industry and lead double lives realize that this is a huge risk to take to work in the adult industry and do it anyways. Why? Well what other job can a woman get damn near same day, with no college credentials, no training, and potentially make hundreds a day?
Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
^ Exactly. It's not a shame issue, fuck, are any of us actually ashamed? I'm not. To me it's a safety issue and a mental health issue. I don't trust my customers -- men as a group can be so violent and dangerous, I prefer to minimize my risk of being stalked, harassed, assaulted or worse by keeping Work Me and Real Me two separate people. This also grants me so much peace of mind. I worry about everything and I don't need to introduce any additional stress into my busy-ass life.
Incidentally, reading this thread really validated my choice to have zero personal social media presence whatsoever. Glad I'm not the only one.
Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
It's so funny, I used to make two pics out of each one, just the face for FB and just the body for anything adult. Note, I no longer have a FB.

to add to this....
the "customer" is obviously a member
he is just as pervy as you are, he pays for it.
Dont be ashamed or embarrassed
Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
THIS! I always tell people that watch porn or go on cam sites then want to out the girls because they are miserable with no lives that if you are getting off on porn or beating your dicks to a cam girl, then you are right there with her. As IF their hands just stumbled on streamate.com or wherever, LOL! Everyone is entitled to their privacy but not hypocrisy.

Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
I dont have a very strong personal life, I do have friends and people I know various places
I have a child so some "normalcy" of life is needed and hiding or not doing things because I am a camgirl is unheard of
Facebook is very normal. I use a profile pic that flatters my personality and everything is private. I only allow people I know to access my personal life, know my name. A lot know it
You can have two 2 lives and keep one filtered.
I am morally obligated to keep my child from porn and I have to be a mom
like a lot here
Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
Simply ask him how he knows you?
Be super cool about it

Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
im not ashamed but being a respected business woman i still have to think about keeping this part of my life private from most people. i just forgot to block the country in as its a small place i dont want everyone around town knowing how i make money as its not their business
Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
Camgirlxtacy, just remember, if you use any of the pictures for camming that are on your facebook, and a guy did a reverse image search with apps such as "tineye", it will show all the places that picture is located, including your facebook. You probably already knew that, but it has been weighing on my mind to tell you since I saw your initial post. If you accidentally did this, just remove those pics from facebook and your cam sites, just in case, and never use them again. You can test this theory out yourself by installing the tineye plugin to firefox and chrome and then right click your picture and select "search image on tineye" and see where your image pops up. I hope that helps. That may have been how the guy knew that information about you. Good luck.

Re: OMG! My First customer recognised me!
Hey, I get it. When you feel like you're getting outed, even just to one person, without your say-so, it can feel terrifying. I've been very lucky thus far in that the family I care about knows what I do. The ones that don't yet, well, I get extra pleasure from knowing how mortified they'll be when they figure it out. (I might be a tad salty, heh.) I've also worked for myself since college, with only the occasional foray into working for others, usually in a consulting capacity. But, yeah, I never really worried about getting outed, because it would have no real effect on my life. I didn't have geo-block enabled, I showed my face in everything, and I gave no fucks. Then, some little snotrocket stalker dude attached himself to me, and when he didn't get a rise out of tattling on me to my mom on facebook, decided to look up my partner's work and threaten to show up and implied that he'd harm her. My partner also failed to take the bait, and he just disappeared. But it was a good lesson for me about my limits.
My partner and I came up with a new approach that would let me keep the stuff important to me, but minimizing any risk for those I love. She jumped at the chance to deactivate her FB - she hates most social media anyway. I kept my FB, but removed any pictures of my full face or my tattoo, and asked my friends to do the same in photos I was tagged in. I got rid of my other personal social media accounts. We kept one other social media site, but it's a fetish site, and even stricter rules about no-face/no-tattoo-photos-only was applied to our accounts and all our friends. One of my businesses, that I shared with a friend, we started doing half-face or obscured profiles shots for pics of me, and focusing more on her presence instead. Eating your cake and having it, too: it can be done, but you have to be meticulous, and take your time. I followed some SW advice about altering my appearance on cam. My tattoo, for example, may as well only exist on cam. One of the ideas from SW that I took and ran with, was the idea of a fake-real-name. I started by writing little short stories about her, to make her more real for me, and eventually gave her her own FB and twitter, even a tumblr, with no real pics at all. Just some sunsets and nature shit, and the occasional meme or pic of my (fake) hair and/or hands, and one "oh, trying to cover up but failing" one of my tattoo. You don't need to go to that extreme, but I found it kind of fun, actually. The point is, if you need to keep your business FB up and running, and you need to use pictures including yourself, there is absolutely no reason that you need to have your full, unobstructed face included. Unless your face is on a label, in which case, you should probably rethink that anyway.
Good luck, regardless. Nobody can tell you how, or at what pace, you get comfortable with being outed, but you'll have to get there if you stay in this industry. Honestly, I'd argue that you have to get there period, because even if you quit today, there are no guarantees of privacy once you've been in it. And life is just easier if you're not scared, just in general, you know? Just know that you're allowed to make it as easy as you want to on yourself, and you're allowed to feel frightened or intimidated sometimes, and you're allowed to try and stay as deep in the closet as you can go. As long as you don't stay stuck in those feelings, and do the work to figure out what your "proactive" looks like, you'll be alright.
