Camgirl as a full time job??
Hello hello ladies. I am new here and being caming (camming? - Sorry, english isn't my first lamguage) for a few weeks now.
I am doing pretty good. Just got my first pay check. I am doing average $30-35/hour so far. yay! Usually with no microphone because of my roommate. And already have some regulars.
As a chubby (not fat, but very busty) girl, it is kind of a ego boost lol My confidence is super high.
My question is: I am moving out to my own place soon, but just found out my day time job is going to let me go by the end of the month because is end of fashion season, which is fine, because I am not happy there anyway.
Who has caming as primarily job full time? Is it enough money to support myself? Do things ($$) slow down or get better if I keep investing on it? (Just recently bought a new toy lol)
I don't have a great webcam but intend to get a better one, also start using audio more often, since I will be on my own. Will money increase?
Sorry for all the questions?
Thank you
Erica Rouge

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I realized every second I was spending at my vanilla job I was flushing money down the toilet. When I actually had to beg my boss to take a few hours off work one day so I could take some cookies to my kid's class, that was when I decided vanilla jobs were more humiliating than adult work ever could be. This took about 2 months after I started camming.
Basically, if you treat this as a full time job, and invest slowly to bring up the quality of your shows and try sites to see what works best for you, pretty much anyone can make a decent living.

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I only cam part time but make better than an average full time job. I'm chubby & super busty. Make no mistake you do have to work hard, build up regulars, market tons on social media and give great shows. You will have to put in the effort, hustle and hours, but at least YOU Benefit the most from it.

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
For me money has been increasing since I started 2 years ago. I only cam, but I still work parttime since its hard on the body and I do have a bad back which makes it harder to put in long houres.
I upped my prices since than (started to low at 2.99, didnt knew you could go past 4.99 but after dfiscovering stripperweb I have been steadily raising my rates), improved my hussle and got a following and regulars.
I am making triple of what I made back than, if not more per houre. It does depend on the houres I am online too- keeping teh schedule and offcourse the internet must be working and the site must not have to much glitches.
The best thing of this job is that earningwise their is no limit.
I have to get my ass in gear, and get firm with myself taking on a schedule and stick to it, since its really important for me that my customers can find me.
When I was stricter on my times it showed me an increase in earnings and had the most earnings in a houre I ever had just doing regular pvt and excl (I am not a goldshow type of girl)
If you keep investing in it I bet your earnings will improve, I dont think it has lots to do with external stuff though (offcourse a broader pick of toys is nice, and a nice background is easy on the eyes), but most important is to work on your hustle and on your persona (and actingskills bec lets face it when you do this every day, sometimes you dont wanna smile but punch them in the face)

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
If you put in the time, effort, and brainpower- yes, it can definitely pay as well as a full-time job. I only started camming 10 months ago but I'm making 3x more than I ever did working a vanilla job, and I'm only on cam 15-20 hours a week. It's not easy money, though. You really have to look at it like a business.

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I'm a full time camgirl and I've never gone hungry. That be said there have been rough times...mostly when I first started.
Reinvesting in better equipment has always worked out for me. I havent jumped like $20/hr bc of it but I have seen a small increase, that being said you will need to reinvest in better equipment over tie just to keep up with the ever evolving camming environment.
If you are making $30-$35 consistently i would say you could support yourself camming. Be sure to diversify...throw in some clips and be familiar with other camming sites just as a backup.

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
Also is important the place where you live and how much money you need for rent,bills,food..not the same live in serbia or live in london, every city have totally different prices.
Know how much u need and calculate how much hours you have to work,as Ivy say for me too money as been increasing from i started, and i dont work full time, is hard and also i like to have time for me.
But working part time i earn 4 times more than a normal salary en my country (full time)

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I cammed for a year before I gave up my job and switched to full time Camming...I don't work full time but I make full time money :) there's so much more than just logging in you need to become a business woman/entrepreneur for your self and have many eggs! You never know when one egg is slow the others pick you up.

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I had quit my job waitressing (even though I made good money) to cam more because I was capable of making more at home. The thing that does suck is not working with actual people/making new friends/etc. At first I was nervous as hell about the transition because let's face it, it's pretty scary thinking something could go wrong with camming. But it was really the best decision I had made at the time. I wasn't tied down to living in any area or someone elses' schedule. My advice would be to ONLY do it if you've been camming for a while and have your regulars and KNOW you're guaranteed to make no less than a certain amount every time you log on.

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I cam part time and go to school full time and still make full time income.

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I supported myself camming between Jan 2003 until last summer. I'm on hiatus and supporting myself doing clips now.

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
What all of the above ladies said, but especially what @bambolina mentioned about the cost of living where you live.
I happen to live in one of the most expensive states in the US, so camming for me, is just not enough for me to make the money I need every week. I actually lost my home because I couldn't keep up anymore, even with my part time job, and with private party dance gigs.
I have moved where I now can cam full time, but only if I want to stay in my current roommate situation.
I need other sources of income to get my own apt. again.
I would just suggest that camming doesn't take up your entire lefe. since it's a very isolating job, it's probably going to be in your best interest to have other interests outside of camming.
I used to cam from sun up to sun down just to make ends meet, and I got burnt out, and hated turning on my cam.
That being said, it is the best job ever! To be able to make a living at home, and be virtually adored, is the best feeling in the world!
Best of luck with your camming career! keep us posted, ok?:)

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I jumped into camming because I got tired of regular corporate jobs due to stupid backstabbing coworkers and getting hit on by male bosses. It's been full time for me since July 2014 and I never knew any better. I make more than when I had a good corporate job in a shorter amount of time. I feel I was born to be a cam model because everything from my past has helped me some way become an even better cam model.
I was outed yesterday by my husband's female friend to all of his friends. These are people I've hung out with for many years...people I thought were my friends as well. Well, let's just say, I'm no longer invited to any BBQ's because Auntie is a whore. I guess that's the only real downfall of this business. Then again, it is a positive too because you will find your real friends who don't give a shit what you do for a living as long as you are happy.

Man that sucks! I really hope he no longer considers her a friend.
And back to the subject - I really regret hanging onto my corporate job for so long. Definitely way more advantages for me to be camming full time. Not everyone can or should do this but for those it fits, it can be awesome.

Have you considered blocking your area / state until things cool down?

No, I'm not going to do that, if they harass me, then so be it, I can ban/kick them out. I'm all over social media too so there's no getting away from them unless I close the accounts. It's all about riding it out now and I feel prepared due to the immense amounts of support I get from this forum and all you girls!
That's another great thing about being a cam model! You have overwhelming support from other models who care about and love you like family!

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
Hello, it really all depends on you and your work ethic. I cam and work in the industry both full time and very part time but I also supplement my income by doing several other sex related work. I do phone sex, texting, custom videos/pics, custom audio, free chat sites, non free chat sites, and independent camming through skype. I have a can make $2k+ a week if I hustled and worked all of my sources. But then I can also hustle and make $300 a week or even less, it's just all on you and the week really. I totally believe the right person can live off of camming full time but this person has to be smart because they'll need to cover their basics if they have a shitty week or month.
I've been in and out of the sex industry for about 15 years (I was a curious teen, lol) and camming off and on about 8 years and I mainly used it part time to make what I needed and that was it. That being said my "business" is spread out and I can take advantage of taking days off, etc. because I know that if and when I need money all I have to do is tap into one of my many sources. Lately I've been trying to stick to a schedule and put in full-time hours so that I can meet the income requirements I set up for myself. I have been in dire situations where I've either busted my ass and still came out short, or I was lazy and came out short. Hell, sometimes I'm lazy and still come out on top but you can't always rely on that. I've been in positions where I almost got evicted and my car almost got reposed because I wasn't putting in work and taking my job seriously.
Camming can be extremely lucrative but I suggest you as a new person either try and secure a part time gig now to use as supplimental income and or save up as much as you can now while you have your vanilla job still and hustle cam full time full speed ahead. There's nothing worse than doing excellent and blowing through money and then having a bad week or month on cam. It will hit you and your ego like a ton of bricks if you aren't prepared. Camming is a boss bitch. She rewards those who work hard but sometimes she can still be a bitch and even putting in overtime won't satisfy her all the time. This is a 100% commission job. If you don't sell, you don't eat! Make sure your bills are covered for a few months and you have money in the bank before you just go in head first. I'd hate to see you have a crap month (Summer can be D.E.A.D) wishing you'd had a back up plan. Good luck!

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
When you're running calculations to see if full-time camming is feasible for your situation, be sure to take income taxes into consideration.
-
Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I do it pt and make more than I ever did at any vanilla job, even with overtime. I don't want to have a limit to how much I can make, be required to work certain shifts, and berequired to be nice to people who are rude to me. I wish my vanilla jobs in the past had a ban hammer.

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
It is possible, it just takes a long time. I have been full time since October 2014 and tbh I have yet to make all my bill money etc from camming (i do stuff on the side too), but it is getting to a place where I am finally figuring out how to do the financial planning and balancing so that I don't see month end being completely broke etc.
You may have to take a lifestyle cut especially if you are earning a decent salary where you are now, but when things pick up, boy do they pick up. There are days when you will make minimum wage and there are days when the $$ will just rain down and you'll be so grateful that you quit the vanilla world. My best advice would be to just treat it like a job that you have to show up to every day, because consistency is key. It is not an excuse to lay around at home all day etc. I have been in tight situations due to laziness etc but once you have felt that fear of not paying rent on time, you never ever go back.
Calculate your expenses and find out what you need to bring home every day to make them by month end. Its a bit overwhelming if you start out and set yourself high weekly goals, as you may find you become depressed if you don't meet them. Also, you'll probably find that if you set a moderate daily goal, you'll be a lot happier all the time and draw more guys in.
Lastly, make this forum your bible. There are all the honest things that you need to know about camming etc here and you will also find an amazing support system for when times do get tough. Good Luck!

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
Everything in life is a gamble. Just like if you worked a so called normal job would you make enough to cover the bills?
You never know until you try it.
Hyori: Give it time. They are just in shock for now. They may even feel betrayed that you didn't share this with them earlier. If I was a friend, I would feel hurt that you didn't trust me enough to tell me from the get go & yourself. I didn't lose any friends or family, but then my family are the black sheep and my friends I know all their skeletons too. LOL You can't put this all on them when you obviously the friendships weren't based upon an open honest friendship on your part. Hell, I got polaroids of my friends from 20 years ago hidden away they never want to see the daylight. LOL Oh we were crazy in our twenties before every phone had a camera & social media. You knew it was only a matter of time before you were outed. My advice to newbies who may read this, to get ahead of it by telling your family and friends before they get it sent to them. :)

Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
I only work part time now and earn full time money, but that's because I decided to go indie, doing Skype shows. No pimps under me, stealing my content, customers and lying to me, trying to make me think they are a real camgirl. The only way to be truly indie and know you're not being played by industry pimps that want your content and to control you, is to do it ALL yourself. I can show you how.
You can do it, too, gals! You really can. Discreetly.
-
Re: Camgirl as a full time job??
^^ I saw your previous post etc. All I can say for indie is maybe build up traffic first. I have been trying to get indy going for a year now and nothing. That shit takes time. So do it, but I would not recommend it for a newbie to the camming world as a first option, but that is just me.

Amanda, unless you are going to answer the reasonable questions asked in that thread, stop pimping it all over SW. Seriously, girl.
