trans women and strip clubs
Hi! I just joined this site.
I'm a post-op trans woman. I'm a pretty small woman at about 125 pounds. People never recognize me as trans in my day to day life anymore, and people assume that I'm cisgender. I've done some cam work (modeling as a cis woman), but I found it dreadfully boring and lonely. I also don't love that people secretly record your videos now days. I do love dancing in general, and I'm thinking about taking up pole dancing for fun. I work out a lot, and I like to keep myself really fit. I need some extra cash and a flexible work schedule, which is why I was camming in the first place. I thought stripping might be a bit less lonely and cramped feeling. I might as well make some money back on my silicone implants too!
I've seen a few threads, but not a whole lot of information about trans women in strip clubs. Does anyone have an idea about how other strippers tend to treat trans women? I don't plan to disclose my trans status, but I do like to know what I'm getting into ahead of time. What should I expect from management? I definitely won't disclose to them either. What about customers?
I'm going to be reading through the threads on the forum about the auditioning process too. Thanks!

Re: trans women and strip clubs
management generally doesnt care. DO NOT disclose your statue because to hurt your money the girls will tell the customers you are the chick with a dick(or former)....I worked at a club near philly with a beautiful trans girl...she made good money til the rumor got around.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
There are so many in Las Vegas.
Like TiffTiff said, managers generally do not care and I would not let my business be known to other co workers.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
I am female-to-male trans (pre/non-op, 2 1/2 years on hormones). Female in appearance (with wig/make up), female-bodied, legally female, male name.
Auditioned at 5 clubs (worked at 3) 3 out of the 5 checked my thong, regardless of me being legally female on ID and dance card. I've had one club fire me upon finding out my legal, male name (I worked there for months). Another hired me for day shift only since I "checked out okay" with not having a dick. One let me work a shift that the agent told all the girls my legal name, and had a girl feel my Adam's apple and peek in on my VIP's.
The clubs that knew nothing have been the best so far, because trans people are treated like shit in this industry. Coworkers, and management, etc. They've all been fucking assholes. Just lay low as hell, nobody needs to know a thing about your past. Even if you look 100% female naked or clothed, once they know, nobody thinks of/looks at you the same.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
I myself am not transphobic but many a discussion in the DR has revealed just how bigoted some dancers can be. Keep your mouth shut, please. Not only will it hurt your money, if some deranged customer finds out they may try to hurt you or kill you.
There's been threads on this before and the advice is pretty ad nauseam.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
This is helpful information. Thanks everyone! I figured there were more trans women out there doing this. I'm not surprised that some places are transphobic. I've been worried about violence too.
I think that I'll work on learning some pole dancing, and then I will try to figure out how to audition next.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
I don't know where you are, but if you can try a new club where nobody knows you. Are your documents switched over to reflect that you're legally a woman?
-
Re: trans women and strip clubs
Yes, my documents reflect than I'm a woman. I'm starting to research clubs. I plan on taking a few pole dancing classes. After that, I guess I'll start figuring out how to choreograph strip dances and lap dances.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
I've seen enough transwomen about whom I've cared deeply treated very, very badly to say that you should keep your status to yourself. It's more of an immediate personal safety issue than a civil rights issue. If you can consistently pass as female, you are female. Tell whatever lies you have to tell to erase any ambiguity. Please don't forget just how horrible people can be. Take care of yourself.
edit: I didn't mean to be a downer. I'm just reminding you to stay in character and to avoid getting too close to your co-workers.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
I lost two transgender friends in Albuquerque who were escorts. Both were murdered.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
That's terrible. Violence against trans women is a big problem. I'm always on guard. I made this thread to get an idea of safety. I definitely won't be disclosing my trans status. I almost never do anymore. I'll try to find clubs where I'll be unlikely to know anyone. I've seen a few that might work. I just need to learn some pole, strip, and lap dancing. I want to feel confident enough to audition.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
I can only imagine the hardships transgender individual face in the industry.
Its one of the few industries that can discriminate with no explanation and often times without any repercussions.
I think as post-op you have an easier time making it then as someone who is pre-op and still physically a male (which in this case I would worry a heterosexual man becoming violent if he were expecting a biological woman). As a dancer we are in a sense getting 'intimate' with customers and portraying a fantasy.
Since you are simply dancing I don't think you have to disclose to customers or co-workers. Not sure if they are transphobe but if these broads can find and exploit some type of flaw, weakness, vulnerability, etc. about you that will inhibit your money (thus filling their own pockets) please believe they will!
Also most times you don't need to know how to do fancy pole moves or pole experience to get hired / make a lot of money. But if it helps your confidence then by all mean practice away. Hope you find a club that works out for you.

Pole classes are irrelevant, if you have a great personality that goes a lot further! I've danced seven years and don't do pole stuff. I'm sure you'll do great!

Re: trans women and strip clubs
You really don't need to know how to strip or give a lapdance, but researching all of that can for sure be a confidence builder. I was terrified by the great unknown of stripping, so I understand your desire to be prepared. There's a great instructional video thread here. But if your money is tight or whatever, don't hesitate to get started without it.
Good luck, stay safe, make tons of money, and come back and tell us all about it!

^^^THIS all day! If you can pass and get hired you're golden. Work save and keep it to yourself.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
As others said, if you appear for all intents and purposes to be female (physically, legal name, legal gender, etc) then keep your DNA to yourself. I know that there are a lot of post/partial-op trans women in this industry, but it's rare to hear about (besides Vegas showgirls) because part of their industry persona is to pretend that they are cis.
It's just much safer to let everyone, customers and co-workers alike, think that you were born a woman.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
i would not say a word if your id says female leve it.... this is not the job to bust out and say i was a man now i am not..... the girls will rat you out because your in their money.... the guys wont be cool with the thought that you once were a guy ... keep it to yourslefe and you will be good... be safe ......

Re: trans women and strip clubs
I once worked with a post op trans. I never would have known she was born male if she didn't tell me in passing. I don't even remember why she told me. She had been through all of the surgeries and looked as female as anyone else. However at one club a person who didn't even remotely look like a woman was prevented from auditioning because they looked male. If I recall it was a cross dresser, not even a trans. I agree, don't mention it because many clubs I'm sure will judge you along with many customers.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
I can't believe someone checked your thong?! What club/what state was this?? I've worked a ton of clubs in my 22 years dancing and never heard of that. They check your drivers license, thats it.
But seriously, don't tell anyone where you work. Not even someone who seems to be your best friend in there. Don't trust anyone. Just make your money girl! And you don't need pole lessons. Trust me. I haven't even spun around a pole since 1995 and I do just fine.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I'm browsing the forums to learn about auditioning and ideas for outfits now.

Detroit Collisium, Score's and BT's all checked my thong, and I don't mess with 8 mile anymore since then. It's most likely because they're extras clubs and expect fucking.

Re: trans women and strip clubs
is it possibe for you to dance at only trans girls club? Do they even have trans girls only club anywhere? if so, I think it's a great idea to dance there.

When only 0.3% of the population is trans, I'm pretty sure there isn't any "trans clubs" to dance at. lol Just wanted to let you know that legitimately sounds ridiculous. Not even in Vegas would you find that. That would rely on a large customer base for a very selective fetish, which is normally based on pre-op transwoman. These women look/sound like anyone else and don't need their own club. You'd have better luck opening a foot fetish club. Many (most in my experience) men are uncomfortable with the idea of "she used to have a dick." You would be hard-pressed to attract a man in a club, regardless of how gorgeous the women are, if you advertised it with the idea of "all their external genitals were turned inside out!"
