toronto,on wanting to dance in the u.s?
Hello everyone,
So... I'm so glad I came across a site like this even though its American. I've been looking to dance for a while now but have been waiting to get back to my regular frame and size. I'm asian and 24. That's definitely not too old to Starr right? Definitely would've been better to start when I was like 20. I'm reading here that being a dancer 25+ may be an issue to some
Anyway my main question and concern is...
I really don't want to start out dancing here at home (toronto), and I have a thing for the U.S. i love to be in the u.s. would it be okay to start out dancing elsewhere for the very first time? I was looking particularly into NYC and Miami and now recently, vegas. And I've been reading alot about which require permit s and which don't. But those were geared to people who already live in the u.s. :
Is it possible to work clubs in nyc without a permit license or visa? Same with miamoli. And vegas. Being from toronto canada, and which (who have experienced) clubs that let u work being from canada?
Alsooooo. I'm very shy. But i love dancing and the thought of men melting before and i lIke performing and the aTrenton (no dAddy issus here though).. i like. And I'm not cut throat like some girls that I know already in th e industry. However when it does come down to my money and the opposite sex. i run it BUT Will this help break that My shyness.

You can work without work authorization in NY,,they don't care about it in outer boroughs.
Speaking of Manhattan, you can try Lace and Flashdancer's chain.
Re: toronto,on wanting to dance in the u.s?
You will not be able to work legally in the US. You may be able to find work under the table at a shadier club but it will probably not be the best, espescially in places like NYC or Miami. You should aim to start in a smaller city as the competition is less intense and often the money can be better anyways. If you don't want to work in toronto, ottawa, sudbury, north bay, kingston, london, belleville, and possibly even montreal may work for you. Shouldn't be more than $65-75 each way on the train or bus to get to any of those towns from toronto. Check out some of the reviews for clubs. Welcome to the boards!

Every club I've worked at here in the U.S. has asked me for my social security card and id. I'm originally from Canada, moved to the U.S. several years ago, and have a permanent resident card.

^Your situation may be a bit different from the OPs, I was going with the assumption she does not have US citizenship/PR. Without that it's essentially impossible to legally work in the US as they do not grant work visas for house dancers, only features, it's been discussed in a lot of threads and I would reccomend the OP does a search if she wants more info on that topic.
