Brooklyn is VERY expensive now. Like, I heard one of my friends say it is now the most expensive neighborhood. I dunno where they got that from, as in my experience, rent doesn't get much higher than the low 5 figures monthly and in the city that'll get you MAYBE a decent 3 or 4 bedroom in the UWS. Still, depending on where you're looking, you're looking at at the VERY least $2000/month for a decent one bedroom. And that's if you're in the asscrack of Bushwick. Eww. NYC realtors are also looking for your yearly rent to be 40x what you make in a month. Sooo... if you aren't making close to $200,000, don't. Also there are NYC taxes. It's insane.
You wanna cam and put away savings? NYC is literally the WORST place to live, followed closely by SF - in terms of rent, cost of living, and taxes. If you have any choice in where you live, I'd go somewhere with a low cost of living. Also, despite not being in NYC, I'm in EST and I find that it's a little hard in terms of scheduling. Moving, to say Chicago might be better - it's midway between PST and EST and is still a metropolis.
