Forearm Injuries
I stupidly tried some tricks I wasn't ready for without warming up my arms properly and strained the top, inside muscle of my right forearm. Doctor referred me for xrays and ultrasound to see the extent of the tears, but didn't offer any care advice and my appointments aren't for an entire month! My arm will be basically healed by then (I hope). Are these kinds of injuries common? How long until I can get back on the pole? The pain isn't too bad and I can still move my arm with full function, just hurts to put any substantial amount of weight on it. In the mean time, I guess I'll have to just work on my floor work while dancing.

Re: Forearm Injuries
Ice/heat as needed, esp after each shift. A constant, low-lvl dose of ibuprofen -- it's an anti-inflammatory, so have it in your system well b4 the injured area starts feeling inflamed.
Obviously, avoid stressing it w/ additional pole work for awhile, even tricks you've mastered. You should nvr, ever be adjusting your technique (assuming you learnt proper technique to begin w/) to get around pain or other functionary problems. If there is tearing already, it will likely take several months to heal completely, & during that time it would be very easy to cause further dmg. If it hurts, just don't do it.
I spent yrs working thru injuries, both b4 & while dancing, & I am paying dearly for it now in my very late 20s. Take good care of yourself, give your body time to heal, & maybe you can milk a sympathy VIP or three in the meantime :)

Re: Forearm Injuries
Yes girl! I am just recovering from a pinched nerve in my arm/wrist. Felt like I had carpal tunnel or some sh*t. It took at least 3 weeks which I thought was a long time but I realized I was probably over using the arm, putting unnecessary stress on it, and not eating rights/stress. It really scared me cause I wasn't sure if I'd regain normal functioning.
But like Aniela said anti inflammatory is the key word. I took ibuprofen as directed for about 2 weeks then switched to natural remedies like icing/heat, sauna therapy (to sweat out toxins), and diet change (foods that reduce inflammation like mangoes and lentils). I am thankful the pain is gone and my arm is much better.
