Hello! Aussie girl looking to work in London
Hi ladies!
I've been on this forum for a while, but first time posting.
I'm from Australia and have been dancing for just over a year, I love the work and I'm currently traveling through London. I have 2 weeks until I head back home and was hoping to work here for a bit to save a bit of cash before I leave.
My problem is that before I left Australia I was told I didn't need a visa as I was coming to the UK for less than 90 days. I took that to mean I could work without a visa as well, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
I'm staying in a hostel near a well known London club and was thinking of going to audition tomorrow night, I'm just curious to know of anyone else's experience with something like this? Is it likely that I will get a flat out no based on not having a visa, or is there a bit of leniency given that I world essentially be working as a sole trader?
Any help or advice is much appreciated! :)

Unfortunately they will say no. Normally you can't even audition until they see you can work.

Thanks for the quick reply, I thought that may have been the case! And especially being a major city I can understand that it would be a huge risk for the club to take on as well.
At at least now I'll know for whenever I come back :)

Just to clear it up, that is never the case. When you're visiting a country, you're entering on a tourist visa. Many countries have reciprocal agreements with various other countries that eliminate the need for citizens to apply for tourist visa in advance or get/pay for one upon entry, but that is only if you are going for tourism reasons, not if you're working. You always need to get a work visa if you want to work somewhere else, and the majority of the time you have to get it before you enter the country (or you enter the country and leave briefly while you get the work visa processed).
Of course, that's not to say that you can't find a club that's willing to overlook you not having the legal right to work in the country -- it's just that, generally, if a club is willing to overlook that, they're also willing to overlook other laws that make it a less desirable place to work. Still, there's no harm in showing up and just asking if you can audition. Could be that you get some leniency or the manager just doesn't check very thoroughly. If you do happen to be allowed to work, keep it hush hush that you're doing it without a work visa though, and just know the risks if you get caught can be as severe as deportation and not being allowed back in the country for a certain period of time.
