I had a question and it was resolved. Thank you.
if you are signing up as a model you do not need a business liscence
it could be asking that if you are going tobe a studio.
^ this is not always true.
Laws regarding business licenses vary state by state, even county by county. In my city, webcam performers and exotic dancers need business licenses. To do business without a license, can be illegal depending where you are from.
In fact, you may be denied a business license if you are a live webcam performer working from home. Where I am from, to provide a live webcam service you must do so from a location zoned for adult activity. Here, most residential areas are not legally zoned for adult activity.
These type of laws keep stripclubs and the like far away from churches, schools, etc. Sadly, many webcam performers are not properly licensed and in many cities and states the webcam industry is simply not regulated, so there is a grey area. The problem with the webcam industry not being regulated in many cities is that if and when regulations do occur, it can cause problems for those already in the business.
To be safe, please at least call the business licensing department in your city and state. Be honest with what you are doing. Using titles such as "internet consultant" "internet sales" "affiliate" "webmaster", etc. (businesses that are typically ok to run from home) do not fall into the same category as webcamming, which typically falls under adult video production or live webcam performance categories.
I am not trying to use scare tactics or put you in fear, as there are options. There are studios, or you can rent an adult zoned office space. I have done both of the above, and I have found the work-is-work and home-is-home method works out better for me. My days are much shorter and when I am at my "office" I stay focused. I do not bring my work home with me. I have worked from home too years ago, and actually feel bad for my younger self, not knowing when to say when, logging on at all hours of the day and night, and not giving myself enough time to myself and other things I wanted to do. Renting a space, the costs of licensing, etc. also gives you a huge expense that will only help with your tax liability at the end of the year. A home office usually sends up red flags.
@minnie Streamates contract, and so many other sites, do state that current business licensing is the performers responsibility and most contracts state that performers should operate as their own separate and distinct businesses. Performers should obtain and keep business licenses, certificates, registrations, etc as required by federal, state and local laws. This is not in the code of conduct, typically this contract (on streamate called the performer agreement) is part of the sign up process.
