To make vids or not to make vids? That is the question.
Hi guys,
I'm relatively new at camming (about 2-3 months active ish :P). I'm not really sure how long I plan to do it for, and I know that this line of work is not accepted by the mainstream yet. Because of all this, I have been very hesitant to make vid/clips/pic sets etc. because I don't want to be easily found and that seems like giving myself more exposure.
I also realize that some people will record me anyway on SM and I may not know it. So I guess my question is should I make vids/clips/photo sets because I'm going to be on some obscure parts of porn sites etc anyways? Or should I not and hope that that never happens?
Am I being naive to think that I can keep this a fun little secret of my younger exploratory years? :P
Re: To make vids or not to make vids? That is the question.
You may be getting more exposure than you realize already. It's not just customers who will record you - Streamate records you as well. And those videos don't just end up on random affiliate sites. I've found my videos on every major porn site in existence, plus hundreds of smaller sites.
Have you opted out of promotions yet? You may want to contact support about that if you haven't already.
At the end of the day though, there's really no surefire way to protect your identity. You could have been recognized by someone in the first five minutes of camming. It could happen to anyone, anytime. That's just part of the risk of this job. If being outed would be the end of your future career, then I would stop now and hope that you won't eventually be recognized and outed from something you've already done.
As for making vids etc, I say go for it. If you're selling them for a reasonable price (aka not giving them away or majorly underselling yourself) then I would guess that they're actually less likely to end up on a tubesite than a recording of one of your shows. Plus you can always keep your face out of frame if you want to.
I will say that there don't seem to be a ton of guys on SM who want to buy vids unless they're part of a Gold show tipping incentive. And Gold shows are recorded CONSTANTLY. Putting vids up on Clips4Sale can generate some decent side income though.
Re: To make vids or not to make vids? That is the question.
Thanks so much for your reply.
I did know that Streamate recored shows and sold them, but thank you for reminding me. As for my current job situation, being a cam girl would effect it. Might make a few awkward encounters with my coworkers, but nothing that would put in jeopardy.
I guess, for me, making videos seems like an "all in" mentality, and I have been kinda half in half out of the camming thing so far. :P
Thank you for your advice/thoughts! I have heard some cam girls can do very well on clips4sale. I will look into it.
Re: To make vids or not to make vids? That is the question.
I'm not going to tell you that you should absolutely do it. But if you are camming you are already putting yourself out there.
I was super hesitant in the first year I cammed, then I realized that if I'm already putting my naked self online I might as well make as much money with it as possible.
I love selling clips now. It's extra money that only takes me a few minutes a day to make.
Re: To make vids or not to make vids? That is the question.
Don't do it if you don't feel comfortable. I've been camming off and on for the past 10 years and I've done just fine without having videos out there. Of course, with camming you may/will be recorded (SM records and resells your streams) but as far as putting out your own, it's not necessary. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I too chose to keep as much control over my content as I can and I feel safer knowing that.
