Just moved into a new apartment / Yearly building inspection - Didnt go well : <
So I moved into this apartment that i found on CL and ive been living here about a month now technically its just a room the person on the lease posted a roommate ad on CL and the complex manager knows where here. Yesterday they had a yearly building inspection and because the place has a REALLY bad roach issue. Well the manager came by and wasnt happy with the state of the place because our dishes from the night before were left out from what was cooked grease pana casserole dishpan etc it was like 9 am when she came by so still pretty early in the day for most ppl who work at night . She seemed pretty pissed about that and the overall state of the apartment i was waiting for my bf to get paid his monthly SSD which were both for the most part currently living on (i cam a few days a month her and there but i dont make much so i dont go on much) so there was a huge pile of laundry behind the door in the hamper (which i spent most of the afternoon doing) and she was very upset about the cardboard boxes and paper bags im using to store my things and the overall clutter in my roommates room. he had a wife and stepdaughter when he first moved in and honestly his room looks like a messy girl toddlers room with an adult queen canopy bed in the corner and his clothes all over the floor. She seemed displeased about my boxes i have out in the dining room. She pretty much told me that i wasnt allowed to store my things in cardboard boxes or paper bags and i had to get plastic totes witch we cant do because were on a very limited income and that the place better look nicer when she comes by on Thursday with the pest technician to see if we actually did anything about the issues.
Well I'm kinda freaking out trying to get the place to look nicer and less cluttered but now im just putting things into plastic bags like what you get when you go food shopping and trash bags. which is making the place look a lot more cluttered because the bags are taking up more space then the boxes did and well .. theyre bags with soft things in them stuffed animals fabric wigs etc they dont keep to one spot very well or look very pleasing to the eye . For when they spray on Thursday we have to have everything pretty much in the middle of the rooms in all rooms in the apartment and empty the cupboards and cabinets in the bathroom and kitchen . I'm just feeling a little over whelmed and flustered because i have to completely redo my entire storage system and make the place look less cluttered and more tidy with out boxes and im just worried what shes going to think about the place because now the apartment and our room is covered with trash bags and plastic bags and i dont want to get all 3 of us and my two cats kicked out for this .
ETA : shes also pissed about the place because she thinks the roaches are the fault of the ppl that used to have our room because they were here first in a one room place by themselves in the complex before they moved into this unit with my roommate and she said they never took care of the place that great .

Re: Just moved into a new apartment / Yearly building inspection - Didnt go well : <
Snowy why don't you try renting a room at a boarding house? It would probably be a lot cleaner and run much better than your current situation. Or someone who has a Mother-in-law suite. I've lived in two of those. I have one attached to my house right now. I use it as my camroom. Mother-in-law suites do exist more than people realize. Sometimes they use the term Guest House. Many people with nice places are looking to rent out, because they aren't doing as well as they once were. Just make sure you look and act the part when you show up.
Do you live near any colleges? Go on campus and look for postings for rentals. Food places where the college crowd hang out. They usually have stuff posted there too. Lie say you're in college. Community college whatever. People are going back to school RIGHT NOW so there should be a ton of options.
Also just wanted to add this one more thing...Take that ssd check and get the fuck out of there NOW. Start over somewhere else. I would not put any money towards fixin that mess up. Take care of SNOWY.

Yes yes and yes to what dynamite said. This just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Even if you do get the place to this woman's standards, which I doubt with how she sounds. Just get out of there before it gets worse or before this woman throws all of you out over something else she finds that she doesn't like.

Re: Just moved into a new apartment / Yearly building inspection - Didnt go well : <
Snowy, I'm guessing that if you are that tight and need that SSI check to live, then moving might not be an option right away. If that is the case, then you may just need to do the best you can in the meantime.
Do you live near a Big Lots? Can you spare even 10-15 bucks? If the answer to both of these is yes, you might be able to grab a couple of cheap totes to throw your loose stuff in. If not a Big Lots, then maybe Dollar General or even Walmart might have some cheap storage options.
On the cleaning front, if you have roach problem, then you may have to step up the frequency of cleaning and dish washing. I agree that the landlord got a bit extreme on some stuff, but I also see her point about dirty dishes left overnight as food debris is a roach magnet.
And if you cannot even spare a small amount of cash, then IMHO you would do best to just be upfront with her about the situation and let her know when you can fix it. If I am not mistaken, SSI checks come in on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesdays of each month, so I'm guessing you won't be seeing any more money until at least a week from now. I am sure that they are not eager to look for new tenants any more than you are to move, so I would imagine that she'll work with you as long as the timeframe is reasonable.
Sorry this is happening and good luck with all of this.

You know, if there's any stores going out of business around there, they may have stuff for cheap too..I got a nice necklace jewelry thing awhile bk, also a clear body 'form' that was a little cracked from an adult store, but it was nice to use when I was selling outfits
What about Ebay? I've sold stuff on there, "local pick up only"

thats pretty it we cant afford to move out my bf went broke getting us in here last month and this month he spent what was left after rent getting his stuff out of pawn and the money i spent doing laundry he got paid yesterday and all he has left is the money hes using as a down payment to rent to own us a bed because hes been sleeping on the couch out in the living room and im sleeping on an airbed in the bedroom but hes 400 pounds and cant share the bed with me because im 230 and hes worried about breaking the bed and he at least wants to know im sleeping good since he has degenerative arthritis and im the one walking around town almost everyday doing errands and stuff for him

Re: Just moved into a new apartment / Yearly building inspection - Didnt go well : <
Wow. Maybe he should have waited a bit before springing his stuff from the pawn shop or renting that bed, but I suppose what's done is done. If he just got paid and it is all already spent, how are you two going to eat for an entire month? Do you also get SNAP?
Can your BF re-pawn something to generate a little money for storage supplies and, if necessary, food? Can you make a little bit of money camming? Idk, but I suspect that a full month could be a hard sell for the landlord to wait.

i do get food stamps snap and thats what we live off of for food . hes ok with pawning his stuff again if we really need it and i do plan to cam a little bit this week but honestly i dont even think shes going to come by anymore and look at the place since they told us to get ready for the place to be sprayed and do to something with my cats but today we got another notice that said they were just going to put baits up in the cracks and crevices in the units - the kind they bring back to the colony and kill them that way they keep working for awhile. also because of the fact that when she came over that was the 4th time she said she comming over she kept leaving notices on our door that said she was coming by then never showed up if shes that busy i doubt shes going to take the time to come over and inspect our unit for boxes. i think she was just worried about having them spray and then the place get reinfested because of my boxes and stuff but baits last a few months so hopefully there wont be an issue anymore because i clean daily she just came at a bad time

Re: Just moved into a new apartment / Yearly building inspection - Didnt go well : <
Snowy, check out freecycle.org for your town and neighboring towns. People post stuff there all the time rather than have it end up in a landfill. Take a look in your town and neighboring town under "Offers" and see if anyone has anything. You could also make a "Wanted" post for plastic storage bins, and see if anyone messages you. Then you go pick it up off their doorstep if you get the offer; no direct interaction required.

Re: Just moved into a new apartment / Yearly building inspection - Didnt go well : <
just wanted to give u guys an update the bug guy already came over and the complex manager didnt come buy to look at the place even tho i did get rid of all cardboard boxes and cleaned the place really good . i dont even know if im going to get bins or not my closet is just full of plastic trash bags now but i think its better this way because i think if i got bins i wouldn't be able to fit all of them in my closet so im just going to leave it the way it is.

Ok, I was just gonna say, yesterday just driving, I saw it was garbage day..someone left out a really cute white Baker's Rack it's called. It's a while wire smallish bookcase type of thing, used for kitchen/bath storage. I was going to pick it up, but decided not to.

Re: Just moved into a new apartment / Yearly building inspection - Didnt go well : <
Snowy, I want to sympathize with you but I cannot and can only offer you tough love. I really don't understand why you put yourself in these types of situations because you deserve better, you really do. But these constant "Help me!?!!!" threads from you are the same things over and over and will be for the rest of your life if Snowy doesn't wake the hell up and start taking care of Snowy.
If you know the place has a roach infestation, why would you leave out a casserole dish full of food and dishes in the sink? If you know there's an inspector coming round' doing routine yearly checks (and your roommate knows because he's on the lease)- why isn't this place in order the night before? It sounds like something from hoarders! YUCK! I'm sure if your things were neatly stacked in boxes (you could've said you just moved in) and the place was pristine; she would've been fine. If you're nasty, a landlord is not going to want you living in her unit and it appears to be that way. And I've seen your previous place/surroundings so let's be honest, you're just not very clean. There's no excuse for the place not to be in tip top shape, especially if you know the inspector has given you ample time to get things ready. You could've saved up for a cheap $60 a month or less storage unit for your things and chosen a clean, roommate. You knew how he lived before you agreed to move in. If you knew he was nasty, why are you surprised? You agreed to live in filth so these are the consequences. Absolutely no excuse to live that way and you know it.
Why aren't you camming? The "I don't make money" is just an excuse and we all know it. Let's call a spade a spade. You aren't wiling to do what it takes to cam. Over the years we've given you so much advice and it just seems like you're always moving from one shitty, co-dependent situation to the next. When will you ever learn? Another cat? Can you really afford another mouth to feed? Another bf? Are you seriously expecting to rely on his SSI checks? When are you going to rely on yourself? Both of you are grown ups! Act like it. I just don't understand your decision making at all. You've been given sound advice over several years, and yet you choose to ignore it.
Why are you not working? Your excuses are the same excuses from 3-4 years ago. Aren't you tired of them? Cam is an illusion. Proper wigs (because the punk look isn't going to make you money)proper make up, proper equipment, good attitude, hustling. That's all you need!
My advice (if you wish to take it) get your but on cam/NF. Put your items in storage. They have small units for less than $40 a month and several of them offer first month free/specials. Look for a new rental (there's no excuses for you to live in a roach infested apartment with pets!). Be it a guest house (like PhatGirlDynamite!!! suggested) or a small garden apartment, etc. Have your bf apply (and you can too) for a government assisted house. He's on SSI so I'm sure they have programs for low income individuals. Cam, sext, etc. Do what you have to do to make rent, bills, food. You have 3 mouths to feed including your own. Cam silently, text on sites like TTM with 50 characters if you have to. Work Second life, something. There's no excuse for you to constantly run to the board for help when you're not taking and sticking to anyone's advice. It's all falling on deaf ears. Why waste our time when Snowy's going to do what Snowy wants to do? Stop putting yourself in these situations! There is absolutely no excuse for you to keep hurting yourself. Learn to love Snowy. Change your way of thinking and you will change your LIFE.
Snowy, I will not sit around and just "help" you because you do not listen. We both joined this site the same time. We both came from the SAME home situations and yet we're not on the same level. I want you to succeed but you HAVE to change your way of thinking. You have to...or get left behind, broke as hell, trying to figure out how to feed yourself and TWO cats now... SMDH.

no dont make urself out to seem wrong in how u feel and what u think of me and how u chose to respond because ur absolutly right about getting and asking for help and having it seem like im not listening or care or whatever u wanna call it. i have issues that im working thru witch is why i dont make a lot of money on cam and y i havent been on a lot for the last few months and why its been so long since ive said anything or asked for help . because the issue is with me and im dealing with it and uve done all u can and said all u can and given all the advice you can. its not like i havent cared what u all have said or havent had it sunk in or whatever. but my issues run way deeper then what wig im wearing or what my makeup looks like or what kind of processor or webcam im using or anything like that. i just wasnt in a position before to do anything about it . its something that is probably better for me to do while not doing sex work so im chosing to work very limitly right now. i know wev had our issues but i take everything you and everyone else says to heart even tho i know how ive acted never showed that

There's no excuses to live nasty, Snowy. NONE! Not if you're going to come here airing your dirty laundry out and asking for help, yet again. You can try until you're blue in the face. All of your excuses sound silly. Pointing the blame at your ex is still an excuse. That's YOUR cat, not his. I'm sure you hobbled over to cook, and dirty the dishes, so what's the issue with cleaning them? Dishes don't pile up on their own for 3 weeks. You could've hobbled over with your crutches and cleaned the dishes and or changed your cat's food/water or hired someone online for $10 an hour to help you clean. I've seen your cam space so I'd highly disagree that you aren't a slob. Especially with this new place. If you get kicked out that is solely your own fault. The same excuses for nastiness and laziness are snowballing. Dishes in the sink 2 years ago, dishes in the sink this year, with ROACHES! NO. EXCUSES.

There it is. I completely understand this. I wasn't sure if you were seeing it yourself before. The previous posters are giving it to you raw because I guess they're frustrated? I stand by what I said before. Abandon that current situation and get a room somewhere else. Many places will give you a room for as little as $120 a week. A week. Electricity plus water. Sometimes cable or internet. With a bed included. No need to rent a bed. You cannot clear your mind while living in a toxic environment. I've been down some pretty dark holes and I had to fight for my life to get out. Snowy next time you get your hands on some money move. If you can get your head wrapped around moving or doing something different, then maybe it could trigger changes. If you could just look forward to that change maybe it would help you break the cycle? Have you tried going to a support group? Someone who is present and can look you in the eyes is what I suspect you need right now.

Listen to this every night for 90 days. Louise Hays was raped by her father and physically abused as well. She teaches you about self love and forgiveness which is what you will need to do to move on. I get it, we get it, you know I went through something similar. Several bbs on SW come from shitty child hoods and still manage to make a living for themselves. Therapists may help (I encourage you to look into EMDR therapy) but therapist take money and you have to work to get it. If you want this bad enough, work for it. It's not going to come to you. Hugs and good luck. Now is the time.

Re: Just moved into a new apartment / Yearly building inspection - Didnt go well : <
Some quick suggestions, hope I don't sound mean-hi btw, I haven't been posting much. Clean your place for fifteen minutes twice a day. I have a pinch of add and that's about as long as I can take-it's worked well. I get being depressed and not wanting to clean, but it's very easy for cats-and people-to get respiraory infections from a dirty enviroment. For cam, I would get heavier, pin up type makeup and realistic wigs or clip in extensions. Many free clinics offer cheap or free counseling, I think a crisis hotline call or two would be decent therapy. I'm sorry you were in pain, but if my cats had bugs floating in the water, I would do ANYTHING to change that, there's no excuse for exposing helpless beings you're supposed to love to that.

no you dont sound mean BUT i clean my place daily. every morning i clean my cats litter box sweep the house (the apartment has wood floors) and i do the dishes. the issue with the cats water bowl having maggots in it was happening after my ankle was healed and i was dealing with it. It took a few weeks but i did get rid of the all flies and bugs that were using the sink as a breeding ground i am not depressed i am clean this incident happened two years ago when i was different mental space and i would really like it if was dropped because im not going to tolerate being made out to feel like im a lazy dirty bum that wont clean up after myself and i dont care of my of my pets . anyone else who says anything about it further is going to have their post report so i think we need to let this thread die now....
