The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I use pricier makeup for daytime, because everything is so obvious. In the club light however, it's so dark and the light can be very forgiving. Is expensive makeup (and perfume) worth it? Honestly I go for the cheapest dollar store makeup and the gaudiest makeup. I've seen other girls bring in like the whole Sephora makeup kit and Urban Decay eyeshadow and stuff so... I wonder if I am missing out on something. What do you do?

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I invested very little in dancing. Two pairs of shoes, two or three outfit changes and like you - the cheapest makeup I could get that my sensitive skin would handle.
I felt like my cash was better served in my wallet than re-invested into things that didn't make a difference in my income.
I know some girls I worked with liked the bells and whistles - to kinda get them in the stripper mindset. I never really needed that "pick me up" though.
As long as you look good going into a shift, I doubt a $1 ELF eye liner will lose you money over a $29 Urban Decay one.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
Not worth it!! Maybe outside, in full daylight..whenever THAT happens!
I use ELF too, Maybelline when I'm feelin fancy, $10 stripper outfits, cheap Chinese lashes from eBay (and I reuse them till they fall apart), Big Lots hair flat iron...
I've been spending a lot going platinum blonde, but now that my hair is pretty damaged, I'm growing it out n doing Ombre (to save $$$ n repair split ends, lo maintenance but high fashion). ;)
Even debating if I want to keep up my spray tan membership bc I've been using a great gradual self tanner lotion (which I also got on sale).

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I use quality products for my face, department store make-up, I shop mostly at MAC and Sephora. I wear expensive make-up to work but I am bare-faced most of the time in my everyday life. It takes me a very long time to use up the products I have, I have been working full-time for the past four months and still haven't run out of anything besides mascara. I try to put as little foundation, concealer and powder as I can, re-use my falsies... My make-up products usually expire before I use them up lol.
It's worth it to me, I feel more comfortable using good products on my skin, my make-up stays on all night and I need minimal touch-up throughout my shift. It's the same products I use when I do put on make-up during the day time outside of work or on a night out, wouldn't make sense to only use them a couple of times a month, make-up have a shelf-life anyway.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I use quality make up. I hate when my foundation is patchy or gone by the end or middle of the night or when my cheap eye make up is running down into the creases under my eye. It just looks bad. I don't break the bank but I do use a lot of MAC and it lasts me a while because I only use it for stripping for the most part. I love looking polished and flawless throughout the whole night.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
Drugstore makeup for the win. I used to have acne still when I began dancing, I would slap on a layer of Revlon makeup and everything was good.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I use drugstore makeup, always have. It doesn't seem to affect my skin as long as I wash it off before bed.
I can spend 30 mins putting on makeup, then go in the club and have customers say "You're not even wearing any makeup are you?" Soooo no it makes no difference what brand it is.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I am loyal to my makeup forever hd foundation. Had to learn the hard way by trying out drugstore stuff and it just doesn't look as nice and I broke out a little...
My favorite concealers are drug store though and I would buy them if they had sephora prices any day. It's the maybe.line age rewind eraser.
Bottom line is I think it depends on the individual products. I use eye liners and lipgloss es from the drug store cause I don't see a difference and don't wanna pay 40 for a frisking lipstick that doesn't last long anyways.
I have expensive shadow palettes but nyx and elf has good shadows as well.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
Pro-tip too- even in a well air conditioned club your makeup will sweat and smear off. Like hell I was ever gonna be doing that with pricey makeup.
I would say for some people hypo-allergenic makeup is great b/c you won't have horrible painful watering eyes if you smudge your makeup..no one needs that at work....

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
Cheap makeup does not last long, looks cakey and feels like crap on my skin. I just prefer good quality products. I'm not talking super expensive, but a little above average in the price range is okay with me. If I really like a product and it works really well, I'll buy it. The lighting in my club is irrelevant to me, I still want to look good even if the lighting will hide my flaws.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I wear MAC to the club. I think that cheap make up is for the most part very cheap. Comes off when I sweat and the product in it of itself doesn't last long. I actually save more money buying expensive make up because I don't have to buy it as often. I've cried wearing MAC and shit my make up still looks good.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I love my Mac lip products because they literally stay ALL NIGHT unless I'm drinking or eating something. The only products I like from the drug store are certain eye shadows such as the wet and wild set on top of my urban decay primer and the mascaras
-
Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
My goal every night is to do about one or two lip touch ups and nothing else.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
Allure mag has some interesting info on cheap/vs pricey makeup & stuff. Myself, although I like nicer mascaras such as Benefit/Dior I love NYC brand in the skinny blk tube 'Sky High" you must put the clear waterproof top coat on it (NYX brand)

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I kinda mix'n'match. For foundation/pwder I like the CoverGirl TrueBlend or Dream Mousse lines, or Revlon ColourStay. Dream Mousse line also includes a very nice blush that can be blended equally well for subtle or bold looks.
Eyes: Almay, both pencil & liquid, covering the pencil base w/ the liquid for extra staying power. I also like ScandalEyes eye pencil but haven't tried it ITC yet. Love ELF's colours & the built-in sharpener is God's gift but I don't find it to stay put very well.
Eyeshadows … I had this big box set of eyeshadows that I got around the time I started dancing & used it for yrs. Needs to be replaced tho, as I have noticed the quality dropping as it breaks down over time. OTC just a couple small, cheap 12-colour palettes. Don't really have a new 'favourite' for shadows since I rarely wear OTC.
Lips: I have yet to find smtg that truly works for me, & I have tried so many of the suggestions from SW. The bane of my makeup experience. But often Revlon, Rimmel or just drugstore cheap glosses, esp OTC.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
If you don't have sensitive skin, then there's no reason to you "have" to purchase expensive makeup for work IMO (unless you like a certain brand or want to buy vegan/organic or brands that cater to specific allergies i.e. gluten etc etc). Makeup is makeup and it all looks the same under the club lighting. The only thing that is worth spending more on is foundation and powder (as it goes directly onto your skin/pores etc), but again if your skin can handle any brand, it makes sense to opt for a cheaper one (seeing as we wear so much, so often).

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I stopped wearing drug store makeup when I was 17. Quality makeup is important to me. I've had people think I just got to the bar when I had been on my second half of a double shift because my makeup wasn't "melted off" my face. I wear a lot more than just eyeliner, so it may be different if you go for a natural look at work. I'm mostly bare faced IRL so my expensive makeup lasts me awhile. I also really enjoy buying makeup so it's no issue for me to drop $$$ at sephora or nordstrom when I need to. I've never been happy with drug store eyeshadow or lipstick at work though...The last thing I want to do is touch up my makeup throughout the night or reapply it completely if I have plans after work...over my years of dancing, I've finally got the perfect cocktail of primers, products, and setting spray to keep my makeup on during everything...if I get too drunk at work and cry or if I go home after a shift and have sex in the shower..my makeup is still perfect. That's worth it to me.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I wear expensive stuff like MAC, Urban Decay, Smashbox, Nars, but only bc I'm a little gypsy & get free samples of concealers, foundations, primers, and skin correctors. I wander up to the counters & tell them I have sensitive skin but want to try their products first before buying them & it works everytime! :) I also get free samples of eye creams, moisturizers, ect you name it by doing that same trick. I buy wet n wild as well as Elf brushes. The only thing I ever have to buy is my mAC mineralize powder & Loreal mascara.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I always wear nice makeup. I don't like the way drugstore brands feel on my skin and I have to use so much because it doesn't stay on very long. I also don't like the cheap stuff because even if certain things aren't noticeable in club lighting I know what it looks like, I have to see it when I get ready, and if I don't feel sexy and don't feel my best I wont have as good of a night. I really love putting my whole look together including the makeup. It gives me more confidence.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I use cheap stuff because working in shitholes bitches stole anything not red hot or nailed down. Even now that I'm not in a shithole I'm so used to buying cheap makeup out of habit. Besides, who looks at my face anyhow? :D

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
I'm a little of both: cheap & pricey. I wear a BB cream instead of foundation. I've tried a lot of them through samples but I've got the most compliments IRL on Two Faced and I love the texture and feel of the Smashbox one. Urban Decay is the only eyeshadow primer I'll use. I don't necessarily seek out pricey mascara, but two things are important to me: the brush/wand and sensitivity. Right now I'm using Make-Up forever, love the brush.
Blush: I'm open to cheap or pricey. But right now using Dior's universal pink. It's pretty cool, blendable stuff!
Powder: Using the cheapest drugstore brand now. Can't remember name. Only touch up twice.
Eyeshadow: Open to anything as long as it doesn't hurt my eyes. But I do have a lot of Urban Decay Palettes and was recently gifted Smashbox Palette.
Liners: Anything. Although I am in love with UB liners. Lip liners: the cheaper they are the longer they seem to last.
Brow pencil: I'm on the fence here. I was a loyal MAC user, but they do get waayyy pricey. I got a nice gfit cert for Sephora and tried some new things. 1. Bare Essentials makes a pencil for less than $15, I think. It's a universal brown. I like it. Got a sample of some Anastasia brow powder. Nice product. Very pricey, but a little goes a long way. I'm still using just one of two colors of the sample. Then....I just bought an NYX pencil. It has the consistency of a crayola crayon!:-( Not digging too much. I have used cheapy brow powders in the past with good results. One called "Eyebrowz'. Haven't used it in a while, but it worked well.
Lips: Anything. Although the longest lasting lipstick is by a company called Bite from Sephora. And I'm in love with a fat pencil from Nars. It's so silky and pretty. But it can get used up so quick for $26!! And it can only work with a NARS sharpener....of course.
Gloss: Anything. But Sephora brand has some really pretty colors and nice consistency. They often go on sale for $7. But I've the used the cheapest of the cheap and it works fine.
Lashes: Anything that bends well.
(Just realized I wrote a "book" on make-up).

Quick thread jack but we had a serial makeup thief at my old shithole. Our sticky fingered stripper stole an eyeliner from another dancer who apparently had pinkeye.

Re: The light is very forgiving in the club. Is expensive makeup worth it?
Everything I use is cheap. I have nice brushes that are like 7 years old, other than that it's the cheapest I can find. Just gotta cake it on!!
