Transportation, no car, leaving the club
How do other people feel taking taxis or a lift home from the club?
I recently moved to Oakland and am going to need to start going into San Francisco to work, because that is where all of the clubs are. I do not have a car which is good because there is no parking in SF, and I have no problem riding public transportation into SF, even though its kind of a hassle carrying all my shit. Public transportation stops running at midnight though, leaving me little options to get home after work. I have a lot of fear around leaving the club and getting into a car with a man who is a stranger, who can clearly see I'm a dancer, while I'm also carrying a ton of cash. Do other non-car people feel safe taking taking taxis or lifts home after work? Are there any other options?

Re: Transportation, no car, leaving the club
There have been times where I needed to Uber home, or take a taxi. I felt perfectly safe. All of the drivers I've had have been very nice, and it didn't seem to phase them that I'm a dancer. I'm sure it happens, but I don't think that a driver would want to risk his/her job by assaulting a dancer and taking her money; the risk outweighs any "reward" that might come out of it for them.
i would say to stick with Uber if it's offered in CA, or marked taxis. I feel safer taking a taxi from Discount Cab, since they are pretty well known (here, at least)... The unmarked "gypsie cabs" are sketchy to me-- I'm not sure why-- so I stay clear from those.
If if you're worried about leaving late at night, would you be open to working earlier, so you can get off at midnight when public transportation is still going?

Re: Transportation, no car, leaving the club
I am open to doing day shifts, don't really want to because the money is meh, but the club that I am hoping to get a job at doesn't actually have day shifts.
Good to hear though that you felt safe taking Uber, though. Makes me feel a bit better! I have been nervous to take them since the sexual assaults/murders started happening, but I'm sure that those are extreme cases and most of the time it is safe. I wish there was a female-only cab company, or a cab company for sex workers!

Re: Transportation, no car, leaving the club
Ive used uber and yellow cab. Both times i felt fine, both took me right to my house. I ended up getting both of the drivers personal number. Both are older men, very sweety i never had a problem. Ive used uber a lot, and i love it.
just tip them nicely if you can.

Tip a bouncer to walk you out to your taxi/uber, and you could even ask them to write down the license plate. Also, once you find a driver you're comfortable with, try to always request them.
I've always taken taxis/uber home from work and have never had a problem.

I have Ubered home ( is "ubered" even a word?, yet? hehe) , and even had the guy take me to grab a Wendys salad with chicken and cranberries, the guy was so nice I bought him a salad too. His sister is a dancer I know so he wasnt so shocked.

Re: Transportation, no car, leaving the club
I've used Uber for work for years and I've never had any issues. If anything I felt better using Uber than a taxi because I had all the driver's information and if I've ever left something in their car I always got it back (unlike in a taxi). As long as you aren't black out drunk or pass out in the car lol you should be able to handle yourself. Just sit in the back and keep to yourself if you don't feel very comfortable. I think using Uber would be way safer than public transportation anyway.
I just had a work friend tell me she took a taxi home and the driver locked the doors and told her he wanted to 'eat her out' (idk if I believe her but it could happen I guess). If that ever happened with an Uber driver you have all his information in your phone and can contact the company right away. Anytime I've had an issue I'd email them & they respond within the next few hours. They seem to really care about customer service. I'm sure you can do the same with a taxi company but Uber just seems so much easier and faster.

Re: Transportation, no car, leaving the club
I had the same issue till I advertised for a driver on craigslist. I found a nice older grandma type lady who I hired after having interviewed her and I made sure she fit the credentials (no drug/alcohol use, mentally stable enough to handle the job and friendly.) other than that, I believe über is the best bet or find someone to carpool with. Always put away some cash for transportation emergencies, though in case unexpected things come up.

Re: Transportation, no car, leaving the club
I drive, but there's plenty of instances where I need to take a cab/sidecar. Most of the time, I felt completely comfortable. Except for one time I took a sidecar at 5:30 a.m. The driver would not stop asking me questions about myself/my job. Oh you're too pretty to be a stripper, how long have you been doing this, how old are you blah blah blah... I got so fed up I told him to stop asking me questions. Once he dropped me off he apologized for being annoying. Next time a driver asks me a personal question, I'm going to say from the get go I'm not comfortable answering personal questions.

Re: Transportation, no car, leaving the club
One more thing you could try is if you are not comfortable being picked up from the club. Walk to a public location that is a minute or say way from the club and be picked up there .Instead of getting dropped off at your house or apartment get dropped off a few blocks away. I've had problems with cab drivers in the past when I get picked up from a club or ask to go to one.
" Do you work there ?"
" Do you have a boyfriend ?"
" Does he know you work there ?"
" Who do you live with ?"
