Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
Hello everyone!
I just started dancing and I think it's really cool!
I like this forum, too!
A few questions regarding price cuts and private dances:
PRICE CUTS
Details
1) Upscale club: Classy interior, nice bathroom, good vibes from walking around
2) It's brand new: It opened last year and they were hiring dancers from all levels of experience
3) These cuts: Private dances cost 250 and the dancer gets half.
VIP performances, which are some other kind of private dance, are 150 and the dancer gets 50. If the custy buys a bottle with the dance, then he/she pays 100 for the dance and the dancer gets 25.
From what I've read (tabloids and how-tos), the cut for a private dance is ~20-50%.
This cut seems fair - the dancer might be sad from not making the 250, however 125 a dance doesn't seem too bad if someone is willing to buy!
But for the VIP, is this normal? Do clubs have THAT high of an overhead to keep up VIP? Wow... 25 out of 100!
Tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't that like this:
"Hey, boss! I did most of the work for you and here's your 70-75%!":P
Is it for ROI on building and starting the club? The cost of supplying drinks?
Paying tributes to the strip club gods?
What is this madness?
PRIVATE DANCES
Details
1) An older friend that visits strip clubs from time to time (rarely) told me that a 250 private dance probably includes "something extra." Ew.
I think he is wrong, lol.
Not here, especially at a new place... correct?
Thanks forever and ever, amen!

Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
I pay an 80/20 split at my club on dances.
1 hour is $500, club gets $100, dancer gets $400. Club provides a bottle of champagne as part of the 1 hour show.
A 30 minute dance is $250, dancer keeps $200, club gets $50.
A single song is $40 in VIP, dancer keeps $35, club keeps $5.
Dancer keeps 100% of all floor dances ($25 a song) and 100% of all stage tips.
Mandatory tip out to DJ and bouncer is $10 each. House fees vary from $0-25 a shift.
Are you sure you don't have the splits backwards? Usually the dancer keeps the majority of the dance price. The most I've ever paid was 30%.

Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
Thanks for your response!
Yeah... Your splits sound more reasonable than the ones over here!
Plus, you would have enough to tip out to everyone and the club would be fine with your split.
I'm guessing the splits are so wonky because the club is new. :( Maybe they will change over time?
No, it's listed on an entertainment agency's website. They supply dancers to the club and the club is listed on the site.

I'm still waiting on the # of positions in other clubs in the same area. I like this place, but the cuts are kind of... shocking. /:O
Thanks again!

Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
OP - You aren't wrong to be confused. This is really bizarre stuff. Clubs with stupid pricing structures drive me nuts. They're usually a great indicator of terrible management, IMO and IME.
So their website says that...
Private dance = $250
"VIP performance" = Private dance = $150
...I don't understand how they say "A VIP performance which is a private dance..." and have a separate price for a private dance. So what's the difference between a VIP performance and a private dance?

TSFM. That's a terrible commission cut
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
@ charlie61, I'm not 100% sure. I visited the club and one of their staff members told me there was a VIP room for business meetings + dances. He did say private dances (without VIP business meetings?) were 250.
Yeah... the pricing structure? That does look funny! :O
Thanks you all for the input.
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
This all sounds SUPER sketchy to me. There's no way I'd work in that club.
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
That is a bizarre split. 60-40 is standard around here, and we pay no house fees and get paid for stage.
I can't imagine a dancer who has ever worked another club would be eager to sign on with a scheme where the club takes most of the money.
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
Since you never used a currency symbol, do you mind answering if this club is in continental Europe? I found that to be a pretty standard split rate in many clubs there. In Chamonix, I got 20€ out of each 80€ nude dance and something like 80€ out of each 300€ Champagne Room. If you're in America/Canada, that split is definitely not the norm though.
In any case -- have you looked up dancer reviews for this club? That's the best way to find out if it's still worthwhile to go there. Could be that the club is busy enough or the clientele spend enough that the dancers still make good money despite handing most of it over to the club.
Also, your older friend is wrong. You don't owe anyone any extras regardless of the price they pay -- unless you negotiate that price for extras and hope you can dodge them, in which case that's shady and just not a good idea both as a business practice and safety-wise.
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
Yeah what shanna said. I have worked at many clubs (in Europe) that the commission I got was quite low. I still made money though.
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
Yeah this might be a European thing. That does seem bizarrely low.
I have also noticed that the more upscale/chain-y the club is, the lower the cuts for the girl seem to be.
My club is a very small split, they keep $10 out of every $100 or $25 out of every $200/half hour.
Also curious, $250 for ONE dance? What? I'm confused on that.
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
Based on the screenshot the OP posted, it looks like she's going through some sort of (American-based - those prices definitely aren't European) booking company: http://www.busama.com/
OP - I don't really understand how this works, but it looks like you're going through what's essentially a legalized pimping system (busama) rather than simply auditioning directly for a club? Which means this company will be taking a cut of whatever you sell in the club? Unless you're travel dancing and are looking for a weekly payout / guaranteed number of shifts, there's no reason to be going through this company. You should be calling clubs directly and showing up for auditions with no middle man to get in the way.

Your friend might be wrong about the price including "something extra" (in terms of club policy, anyway), but I can't help but think that a place that charges $150 MINIMUM for a dance is going to attract a lot of customers expecting them......and a lot of "dancers" willing to do them in order to compete to sell as many dances as possible, especially when their cut is so low. Not a place I'd want to work.
Also, if it's in the US, wasn't it determined a while back that $$ spent entertaining clients at strip clubs is not a deductible business expense?
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
Thanks all.
@ charlie61, the staff gave me information on their cuts and it was the same as the ones listed on busama. This was through walk-in and not through the agency.
This is crazy! BTW thank you for your responses!
@ DreamsInDigital, that looks like a train wreck and it could be one! I'm guessing the club might attract either the HIGH rollers expecting no mileage, or typical SC schmucks looking to get "something."
From what I've been seeing on the web, the latter seems more likely to happen and I wouldn't want to be working in that kind of situation either!
@Shanna Dior, Selina M, and newb2, If the club is trying to do things the European way, this would make total sense. That's interesting - You can work at upscale club overseas with the similar price cuts.
Good to know!
Again, thank you all.
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
If you are in VIP with a custy and they drop $300 or more, I usually don't get out of there without at least a blowy. Otherwise they get the same from a vanilla LD.

Uh that's just you/your club. I sell blocks of time at an hour for $300 for just dances (or sitting and chatting) and I know that many other ladies both in my club and on here sell hours for that price and more without sucking dick. The benefit of the block of time is that it's uninterrupted and no one has to worry about counting because the money/number of songs has been settled right in the beginning. At my club, it sometimes works out to 1-3 "free" songs for the customer too if the ones being played are on the shorter side. In other clubs, benefits can include a more private or at least nicer area than where regular LDs take place or more contact, but not quite to the level you're offering.

So much this.
Hours are $500 here and one-way/zero contact depending on the club. It's heavily enforced, so somehow girls are selling blocks of time that are "the same" as a "vanilla LD".
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
I think you need to go to another club.. at my club we can work for free if we come before 7. customer doesn't have to pay to go into a vip booth. its 400$ an hour, 200$ half hour and i keep all my earnings unless i come late. the most i ever payed for house fee is 40$, i just gotta tip the dj.
its lit. you need to find a club in your area thats lit like this too.
Re: Is this normal? Price cuts and private dances...
Uh, I worked at a club where 1/2 hour was $195 and we got $110. I now work at a club where it is $250 and we get $175. But 5 minute lap dances we get 15 out of $25. House fee is $10. I've worked at a place where house fee was $60, dj was $5 an hour plus bouncer & host tipout. There we kept all of our money for any type of dance.
I forgot to mention we have an ULTIMATE VIP ROOM that is $350....that is where the major extras go on (no camera). Club also takes half that too.

I'm new to dancing, but I have sold blocks of time as well (like the ladies above me were saying) for $250 to the half hour and $400 for the whole hours without doing any extras. The only guy I ever had complain was a foreigner, who barely spoke English, and assumed the place was a brothel.
