Been thinking about dancing for nearly 3 years! So many questions... MA/RI
I haven't even spoken on forums in years so this is all a little intimidating, lol. But I have been thinking about dancing for nearly three years and I'm preparing myself to finally take up the job! I'm nervous, but I'm mainly at my tipping point of being miserable with the little money I'm making at my current job which is great fuel for something new and potentially lucrative. I have my shoes, one outfit, and uh so many questions! And some are so basic and I'm absolutely prepared to hear GO LOOK AROUND THE FORUM, but I just need to know a few things to clear my nervousness.
Some background info (I'll post this in its appropriate section): I'm looking to work mainly in Massachusetts and possibly Rhode Island, a couple of days a week, as I will maintain my other job. Issue is that I cannot work closer to the city due to potentially seeing coworkers/others who know me, so some clubs are absolutely out of the question (Brockton, Boston, Stoughton, Revere, Peabody, etc.) Central Massachusetts is probably the safest for me, Worcester would be okay, but I can travel to Rhode Island, although coworkers also live in Rhode Island and there is a chance of seeing them. A lot of the info listed here on the site is very outdated, but like I said I will post this in the correct section. I'm also not a drinker and plan to do this sober.
These questions are silly and you'll probably laugh and I'm sorry if I annoy you with them, but here goes:
Lap dances: How do they do it?! Lol, I get the basic gist, but I have an issue with knowing how far to take it. I know I probably shouldn't be grinding on the guy (or I can? Am I the one-step-below-the-extras-girl if I do?), but maybe some girls do/clubs allow? I have no idea, I know MA is a very strict "air" dance state, and RI being a little more touchy, however, do people look the other way, despite cameras? There's also a rule I've seen about one foot must always be on the floor. Videos on YouTube have been helpful, but then again are these just appropriate for YouTube? I will watch more videos, don't worry. There's also the whole is the lap dance nude, topless, I always wear clothes? Do I gradually take off my clothes as I dance the one song? Do I offer to take off clothes the next song he buys? It's a little confusing...
Taxes: I don't expect an actual answer to this because it is most likely posted elsewhere on the site, however, I am more interested in paying taxes quarterly as opposed to annually. I think my financial situation would benefit doing this better than paying annually, but the process is a little confusing such as where to request paper work and what not.
Clothing: This one is a little obvious I can look up myself, but I'll list it because I only have one outfit and it's a little frustrating trying to find more, haha. And I get different clubs, different dress codes, but I've seen at the few clubs I've visited girls have two different bottoms on -- a short or cute panty and then a thong. The outfit I bought is just straight up lingerie set with a garter (stupid expensive from Victoria's Secret, but I needed the retail therapy as well) but should I wear an actual bottom, like booty shorts/skirt, or is a thong/underwear okay? This is a silly question, feel free to yell at me, haha.
Champagne Room: This question is probably the one people will laugh at me the most for, but if someone buys me out for the half or full hour in a private room, what do I do the whole time? I'm not entirely ignorant to the answer, I can dance for a little bit, talk and hang out, but what's a typical trip to the private room?
That's all I can think of now. I'm so excited to open up a new chapter of my life with a potentially fun job, but also so nervous and anxious on how to do the damn thing. I figured I'd ask the experts here. Again, sorry if I posted the same dumb ass questions, I browse here all the time, just want to gather some general info. Thanks so much!!!

Lapdances: Hustle Hut & Newbie Board.
Taxes: Dollar Den. Once you get a handle on the general way of doing things, if necessary you can always take other questions to a CPA. I get being a little worried & 'Am I doing this right' bc it's the IRS, I am the same way :spy:
Clothing: Newbie Board for the basics, then Body Business for specifics.
Champagne Rooms: again, Newbie Board, then Hustle Hut.
You would be hard-pressed to post a question that's nvr been seen here b4, repeatedly :) You also need to know that all of the things you listed will be very club-specific. The best way to get a feel for how things will roll in your area is to check out your prospective clubs as a customer. Read around here to get your questions organised, then go to the club & talk to a manager or pay a dancer to sit w/ you & explain how things work.
There is also a 'Licensing & Background Info by State' thread in Club Chat, & your best bet IMO/IME for getting the most current laws for your area is going to the local police.

Dollar Den has 100 or more good threads on this very issue. My standard answer is: open a business checking account. Deposit your money after every shift. This is your earnings record. Out of the business account, pay your ordinary and necessary business expenses. Keep your receipts and do a short write up of why any expense is business related. You can do this on the receipt and it can be as simple as: "costume for stripping." Pay yourself a draw out of the business account. Don't pay any personal expenses from the business account. Pay your personal expenses from your personal checking account.
Quarterly taxes are a requirement in your second tax year. However, the IRS is more than happy to receive them in your first tax year. There is a good program - Quick Books now has a version just for the self employed. This will allow you to prepare your quarterly tax returns, both state and federal. Cost is about $15/month. Another easy and relatively inexpensive solution is go to a small CPA firm and have them set you up. Probably a one time fee and you're set. Or, if you don't feel comfortable doing it on your own, a CPA will gladly do your taxes for you. But, they will charge. After your first calendar year, you will be obligated to file quarterlies and pay.

I apologize for the late response, but thanks so much for the info! I have heard of the program and might look into doing it myself... I have always had a CPA do my taxes, but thought of tackling it myself to save on the fees and such. Again, thanks!
And thank you to everyone else for their suggestions on clubs and where to look for answers. Lol, sorry for being redundant!
