new club is unlike any i've worked at
so the club i'm in now is just sooo different than anything i'm used to. i've been dancing for quite awhile but i feel like a total newbie! i'm working days for now, so i know they are slow but i want to be able to at least command a reasonable price and make some money..then when i get the hang of it, i'll switch to nights.
so i make money off drinks ( 4 bucks per 30 dollar drink a customer buys for me. more if its champagne, etc). and the first problem is, the guys here would much rather order me a damn 30 dollar juice than get a 30 dollar dance!! i'm just floored every time. doesn't make sense to me. i'd much rather be getting 15 to 20 from a dance than 4 dollars from a damn drink, and i'd assume they'd wanna see me naked rather than see me sucking down a cranberry juice. anybody else dealt with guys like this? should i try and get them to just pay for my time if they really wanna just sit at the bar and not get a dance, like is that the "type" that they are?
.
next is, the bartender/manager is EXTREMELY pushy. never seen anything like it. he will literally motion for me to go up to men at the bar * in front of them* and then demand that they either buy me a drink or buy me a dance before I've even started conversation. if they wont do either right off the bat, he wont allow me to sit down with them. which means i can't hustle them further, or try and get money for conversation or have them buy a massage. so he's fucking with my money hard core. i've had guys willing to buy a 20 dollar massage from me, or pay for my conversation but if they wont buy a 30 dollar drink or go for a dance RIGHT then and there, he wont permit me to make my money.. he's mad because then the club isn't making any money off me. its just so frustrating and i'm not used to it.
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
$30?!? For one drink? [email protected] that's the highest inflated price I've heard yet.
I feel ya though. I try to glance in their wallets so I can see how much they have to spend. If I see they don't have that much then I immediately push for dances over drinks cause I want to make sure they'll have money for me.
That sucks your manager is micromanaging you. It's not easy selling when someone is breathing down your neck like some sort of faux pimp. I'd talk to him, like "why are waving me over to customers, etc.?" You're a grown adult and independent contractor you don't need anyone telling you how to do your job. A lot of these managers are chavanistic and have no sense what is like to be in a dancers shoes and they get carried away with the dumb stuff they do and say.
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
yeah I'm torn on the drink price. its so high that unless a guy has a good amount of money, it'll clean out the regular guy real fast..but on the other hand it discourages and even prevents cheap asses who want to come in and take up our time for free.
and the bartender/manager gets 4 dollars + as well from every drink and he's very pushy about getting his money haha.idk, maybe I'm thinking if i tip him, he might just leave me alone more??
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
Depending on his temperment, I would drop hints about how it would have been nice to have talked to that customer for a few minutes. Like when he makes you walk away from the customer and you are out of (customer's) earshot say, "Damn, Wish I had a chance to talk to him. I could smell money on him"
Does this Bartender/manager have the authority to fire you? If not, you could even be direct. "I like to tip my fellow staff when I do well. I can't make money when you don't let me DO MY JOB. If I don't make money, I don't tip"
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
^ yeah i think he could definitely either out right fire me , or greatly contribute to me getting fired so i gotta play nice. think i'll ask around to see if he accepts tips from dancers. i'll definitely drop some hints next time that if he gives me some time i may be able to get some money out of the guy and tip him.
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
Damn that sounds like he's using the dancers to strictly make the club money and doesn't care how the dancers do. Obviously managers want their club to make money but I think a good manager wants the dancers to do well too. Do you like working at this club? I would probably want to find a new one! I guess you could push the dances by saying you really want to get naked/topless/whatever and you can't do that at the bar. 30$ is crazy though and only getting 4$ from that is even crazier lol that sounds like a waste of time.
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
^^^^double likes. I agree on having options by being on the roster at multiple clubs (if there's multiple clubs in your area) so you don't have to put up with any questionable bs from anyone.
Plus Why is the manager the bartender though?!?
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
this is pretty much the only one available to me in this immediate area, there are quite a few i could work at but they're hour and a half-two hours away unfortunately. i will say the one perk of this one is that they have no schedule ( something VERY unusual for these parts) and no house fee! so you'll always make something and never be negative
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
I always tell guys in their ear "I don't drink so they're going to charge you {$30} for a fake fruit juice. If you wanted to spend {$30} on me, I wd rather you just got a dance??" And usually they are like, yeah that sounds like a good idea.
I agree with other people in this thread, I wdnt continue working there. An hour of driving, that's me commuting from my house to Seattle. If you made just $300 a shift for four days a week of driving that hour commute, you would have 1200 for the week vs $400 if you made just $100 per day at the expensive drinks club. And my car takes premium and gets shitty gas mileage but I could do those 4 days of driving on one tank of gas. At three times the potential take home, to me, it's worth it. Even if it was only double the take home. Worth it.
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
Sounds like these issues might disappear on a busier shift. I'd guess the bartender is pushy because he needs to be (because it's slow), and guys would rather drink and chat than get a dance because it's still daytime. Why wait to start working nights?
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
I know this post is old but there are a bunch of clubs in New England, even some new ones. I would get the heck out of there; I can't see you making any money unless it was a packed shift and people came in when they were already drunk.

i *think* they would let me work nights if i wanted ( not sure, they're weird about some girls working nights), its just the most ghetto/rough club i've worked at and i heard the nights are extremely competitive and claustrophobic and totally different..and if i haven't figured out how to make money in the day idk how i will at night.
oh, a new development..they put a fucking bar in the dance area and you gotta be on the other side of it while giving private dances..so NOBODY is going to pay 30 for a dance that's 3 ft away. they can see that on stage. i have no clue how anybody makes money in there, and after christmas I'm going to providence i think
Re: new club is unlike any i've worked at
Providence is good in the winter. They just opened that new place Wonderland. One of my friends is a promoter for them and is a serious promoter, so they are probably doing well. It might be worth checking out.
