WTH!! What were they doing?
-
Re: POLICE DISRESPECT MUST Be Punished! Showin' Students Who's Boss!
Nothing. That's the point. A noise complaint was phoned in. The cops arrived. Instead of advising them to keep it down, they insisted that the students open the door when legally they did not have to. Then, they insisted a resident step outside. They refused and kept asking why police were there. The cops got enraged and dragged 2 of them from their campus apt. then beat them into submission. Meanwhile other cops rushed the apt. with no warrant and no probable cause.

Re: POLICE DISRESPECT MUST Be Punished! Showin' Students Who's Boss!
That's horrible, damn..
I know a friend that moved to another area, had trouble w/cops cause she associated w/some homeless ppl, really she just used to go to the free church dinners they had..
She said once a homeless guy tried to stop a fight, & the cops beat him up
So anyway, my friend worked @ McD's, she was walking home w/a cup of pop from there, & they stopped & asked her if 'anything else' was in the cup::). This happened a few times, then she moved
Myself & a different friend got pulled over, right away we got told we looked like a 'couple of hypes?'::) He also kept telling me he had drug sniffing dogs, which he did I could hear them

I've had cops come to my apartment before asking us to quiet it down or get a citation. But never this. Jesus Fucking Christ.

Good book to read on the militarization of the police in America.

I'm guessing that you didn't answer the door with a major league attitude. Worse though, I'm also guessing that you didn't reach out and try to move the cop away from the door.
I also watched the cop's body cam footage of the event and the kid who answered to door made the grave mistake of reaching out at the cop once the cop wedged his foot in the door. Now the cop really had no right to do that, but you never, ever lay a hand on a cop in a live interaction like that. I guess I also don't have much sympathy because the kid who answered the door was a Grade A douchebag. I'm not saying that the cops didn't go overboard - they sure did in my opinion. But there are two sides to this story and the asswipes who were jamming up their music in a heavily populated residential building at 3:00 am certainly didn't help themselves in all of this.

Rick, do you have a link for that? They don't really show the whole thing, I tried already searching for it. Thanks
Edit: I'm watching a vid by Tim Black, but it's still not at the very beginning, it's like 10 min long
I'd like to see from the very start, when they first come to the door.

Re: POLICE DISRESPECT MUST Be Punished! Showin' Students Who's Boss!
it really shouldn't matter though, you shouldn't have to treat law enforcement with kid gloves in order not to get the shit beat out of you. unless he was attacking the cop and the cop was forced to defend himself with equal force , which i highly doubt happened. being a douchebag is not yet a crime

Re: POLICE DISRESPECT MUST Be Punished! Showin' Students Who's Boss!
There is no excuse for the police behavior here.
Rick, you are explaining the same way you would in dealing with a barking doberman. Why is it that we must act with the police as if they are wild dogs?
We all feel frustration in our jobs, the police do not have the right to beat the living shit out of people when they feel frustrated.
Appropriate police action is simple.
"Turn the music down, turn it down now, keep it down or I am going to come and arrest every person in this apartment, is that clear?
Thank you have a good night."
Over

Re: POLICE DISRESPECT MUST Be Punished! Showin' Students Who's Boss!
Well..did anyone watch the link Rick provided? *DISCLAIMER* I am not siding w/anyone, incl the cops..from the vid, cop asked the guy to step down & talk to him
guy refused, then when cop went to the door the guy put his hand up, then tried to shut the door on him?
I mean they were called 2nd time for noise complaint, if the guy didn't want to talk to the cop, he shouldn't have open/answered the door and/or walked out of his apt?
Again, disclaimer..
I've been on the good side of noise complaint, esp w/partiers & it's a real PIA

Yea, I agree w/this part..however, from the vid the guy pretty much blew him off, so how was he to do that? If I remember correctly (& it's a different situation) when I called the cops on my stalking ex, they had to speak to him, & I had to stand there too, so that's required? So if the cop said that & left, they could claim he didn't, unless he actually spoke to the guy in the apt face to face.
like I said, I had call myself, actually twice as well. These guys causing the prob were LOUD, + they would slam their fist to the walls?
Anyway, the 1st time I guess they let the cop in (it was 1 cop), he checked their ID's & left..
The 2nd time, he knocked for like 10 min., then after he left they quieted down & then started bk up in the morning..
Like I said w/partiers, they don't seem to have in them to stfu. & if they do, they start back up again. This has been one of more than a few situations, for me, in different places.
And, it REALLY SUCKS when ppl are loud & inconsiderate, & you can't get your sleep you need for work.

It was a tough situation. Like I said before, I think that the police got too violent. But that dude really screwed the pooch when he raised a hand towards the cop and I'm sure the fact that they had to return after visiting once didn't help either.
Heck if I was one of his neighbors I probably would have kicked the shit out of that little jerkoff long before the cops did. Seriously, the sense of entitlement and casual disregard for others that this generation of man children has is just mind boggling. Maybe having his face rammed into the concrete a couple of times might give him a little broader perspective.

Then the appropriate reaction is to say
" I am back you are under arrest for disturbing the peace, please come out and assume the position and I will read you your rights"
Notice the lack of a beating
Look, I always am polite to the cops, but that is different than saying everyone must be polite to the cops or suffer a beating.

Re: POLICE DISRESPECT MUST Be Punished! Showin' Students Who's Boss!
Times have definitely changed. Cops used to chase people if they ran and now they just shoot them. They're definitely getting more and more aggressive.

Ok, that I agree with^..I never said or implied that anyone should suffer a beating..
Just the time I indicated I was pulled over, right away my passenger & I got berated right away: we literally got called, 'bums', 'hypes' & were asked if we had arrest records, I didn't but my friend had some minor thing..
My car was a mess from moving, he commented on that, & said I "need to straighten out my life"
It was not physical, but yet very disturbing..

Yes, police intervention methods in many situations have evolved into a direction of aggressive assertion of dominance, extending to denigration of the subject. Also, there has developed a heightened concern that any least act of anything but absolute submission must be put down hard because of a greater risk of individuals acting violently. This last bit makes things tricky because yes, if you raise your hand to the LEO you will be taken down, but force is to be used to control a threat, not to punish or teach lessons, and merely being surly or mouthy is not an imminent threat.

According to the girl’s classmates, School Resource Officer (SRO) Ben Fields was called to the classroom when the Spring Valley High School student refused to put her phone away and leave the room at her teacher’s request. The teacher first called an administrator to remove the her, but the girl did not budge. When Fields arrived at the scene, the student refused his orders to get up. Then he grabbed her, slammed her backwards to the ground, and dragged her to the front of the room. In one video, he’s heard saying “give me your hands.”
The student was charged with disturbing the peace. Another student was arrested for speaking up in her defense. Fields has been taken out of the school and is currently on administrative leave. An investigation of the officer is pending, and the sheriff has asked the FBI and Justice Department to conduct their own investigation.
But there is no evidence that SROs improve school safety. Instead, students are far more likely to drop out of school and commit crimes in the future, as they are thrust into the justice system at an early age.
Thousands of officers across the country — many of whom are armed — are more involved in the disciplinary process than ever and exacerbate the school-to-prison pipeline. Kids are more likely to be suspended and expelled for minor offenses. More children are arrested for nonviolent, school-related offenses, such as violating a dress code or walking in the hall without a pass.
Brutality becomes commonplace when students are treated like criminals. Earlier this month, an SRO was filmed choking a 14-year-old black student. Police at a school in Alabama regularly pepper-sprayed teenagers on campus.

Re: POLICE DISRESPECT MUST Be Punished! Showin' Students Who's Boss!
Police used chemical spray in 110 incidents in which about 300 students were sprayed, and more than 1,000 others were exposed to the spray. Nearly every student sprayed was African American.
This week, a judge in Birmingham, Alabama sided with B.D. and other former Birmingham high school students who for several years have been sprayed with Freeze +P when they were only showing what the court dubbed “challenging but normal adolescent behavior.” The court also ordered schools to implement procedures for helping the students they do spray, such as allowing them to immediately shower, change their clothes, and sit in front of a fan.
Birmingham police have hinted that they may appeal the ruling, saying that “all legal options are on the table.”
