Blue black hair gloss vs regular intense black?
First of all, I'm sorry if this has been asked before. Second of all, PLEASE kick me in the ass if I wait six months to color my hair again lol. It should be every month. I have more than enough time and went to beauty school, so I can do this dirt cheap. Let's start at the beginning: my natural color is off black and has some uneven, blotchy ref highlights. I color it intense black every few months to make it look shiny. I'm thinking of switching to blue black. The pictures I've seen online are striking, but I'm worried because The samples of "after" hair at the beauty supply store literally had bright strands of blue in it. Has anyone with a similar color done this shade? Was it actually blue looking to the extent of looking alternative? Also, what color was your hair before and what, if anything, was it treated with? I'm attempting to attach a pic of my hair-the longer hair-and an after pic I found online of the effect I lust after. Any experiences, warnings, pics, etc
. very welcome, thanks in advance, gorgeous ladies :)Attachment 43824Attachment 43825

It can wash you out without make up-much like platinum blonde. Also, it can make you look a little alternative if your make up is OTT. That is just my experience with it and I have naturally black hair also. It's fun, something a bit different though. Let us know how it goes :).

Wow you're beautiful! Anyways, yes when I was a teen I dyed My hair a "midnight black" , and it came out navy blue! Granted it was a box dye but it was hideous lol, definite blue highlights. My hair was naturally dirty blond and virgin. I'd stick w shiny black unless you wanna just do a strip test.
Re: Blue black hair gloss vs regular intense black?
That is my favorite color can I ask what brand and number it is? I use it but I already have dark brown hair ..so I'm sure the effects are different on mine. I don't have to re color as often since the difference isn't as extreme

I work with a girl who has blue-black hair! She's super tan like your picture and it's actually a really striking combination. I think that as long as your accessories are mainstream and you're not doing, like, victory rolls, you should be safe from looking alternative.
I wonder if the hair samples you've seen only have bright blue strands because they don't experience the wash and wear of real hair? I can't imagine that any dye is going be strong enough to remain bright blue after a week or so.

I love blue-black/ midnight black. I think it looks absolutely stunning. The blue tint gives it a gothic kind of appearance, but it looks classy at the same time. It also gives that shiny glossy look which I love.
I dyed my hair with "L'Oreal Feria Starry Night" when I was in high school. I never had any issues with it. When I used this dye, it made my hair look the same colour (midnight black with blue undertones) as it looks on the box:

The bright blue streaks you saw on display was probably not an accurate representation. The dye mixes evenly throughout the hair, so I'm not sure how you'd get bright blue streaks unless you used a separate blue dye on a few strands separated from the rest of your hair.
I think the blue-black would look really amazing on you. I say go for it!

^thats what it was, starry night!! Wow blast from the past. It was probably just my light hair that made it look so blue, I'm sure it isn't as blue on darker haired gals
Re: Blue black hair gloss vs regular intense black?
Yup that's what I used too.. And I'm tan it does look good on my skin tone ..I wanted to get something even more extreme blue black lol but I'm sure that one is good enough if ur fair skinned and have light hair already
Re: Blue black hair gloss vs regular intense black?
It took me a long time to achieve blue/black hair and it was years on and off, but for a while I just kept dyeing it with chemicals/box dyes. (One night however, I took a shower and pulled clumps of hair from my scalp, eventually leaving burns that left dry patches and finally had to do the big chop..) I switched to indigo henna after letting my hair grow out and added midnight blue/ultra violet Manic on my shafts and ends with conditioner making sure to avoid the roots. (Vegetable base/safe it gave off a perfect blue/purple tint! Miss it a lot, but after the nightmare of removing black it made me never consider it again.) You can also mix the blue dye into a leave in conditioner to enhance the tone. The thing I prefer about henna is it leaves your hair feeling full and stronger after coloring, no fumes, ruining towels or leaving patches of burning chemicals on your skin.
Re: Blue black hair gloss vs regular intense black?
I've never used anything other than revlon box color when I dyed it this color, but I had blue black hair for over a year. it was not nearly as blue as you would imagine and when it faded i definitely wasn't blueish. it's WAY more striking than just a solid black. I had a lot of people ask me if I was native american due to the deepness of the black color. definitely wasn't blue enough to look alt. I have a deep copper hair color naturally and I'm mixed (my complexion about the same as Rick Fox's), but I received more compliments about my hair color when it was blue black than any other color.
Plus, if you absolutely hate it after a few washes, you can always dye it solid black.

You're right, I didn't want to come right out and say I was worried about looking too alternative. Fuck, when I stripped, I got labeled that for having a handful of tattoos and dancing to metal. Even though I was tan with thirty inch platinum extensions. My hidden issue is I got picked on really badly in junior high for having naturally dark hair, among a number of things. So, I tend to tread pretty carefully with going darker-I was blonde from 15-25 and beyond fried my hair. Anyone who's a level one and dares lightening to a level twelve knows what I mean. I spent 36k on extensions over the six years I had them-would have been better spent on therapy. I'll be 31 in March, so I'm sure my bullies won't somehow get wind of me daring to be comfortable with myself and resurface. Besides, I saw three of the biggest ones on TV. One on Cops, two on Lockup:Raw. One of which had serious injuries. Guess they ran into someone less passive and considerably larger than me ;) Sorry for the tj, I'll probably start a thread in Ladies Only. Anyway, I did my Intense Black touch up last night, so I'll probably do the Blue Black glaze Thursday morning, I have plans Thursday night so I'll have plenty of time to fix it if I mess up. I'll post before and after pictures. BTW, this thread is in no way over, so please continue to reply. PS-Kaninchen, what's a victory roll?
Re: Blue black hair gloss vs regular intense black?
If you already have off-black color and you add blue-black to it, it will just make your hair look really dark rich black and no you won't look alternative!
I use to dye my hair a lot and a good brand for non-damage and a good rich color is Elumen.
